Hi, I did this last week with a boxwood. I have 6 potted in my garage waiting for the this last few days of twenties at night to pass. I got such a lol watching you split the boxwoods. I did the same but in the front drive. I'm sure the neighbors thought I'd lost it. I also tried a few cuttings without roots and applied rooting hormone. I'll keep you posted. THANKS

Did these topiaries make it? I’m interested to see how they are doing. If they failed, do you know why, and what you would do differently if you do this again? Thanks so much. No, I won’t/don’t put the boxwoods in the greenhouse. I wanted to decorate and place them around the greenhouse. I keep my myrtles topiaries in the greenhouse.
Thanks, Brandon. Great idea to make this video. I have noticed that sometimes a couple of boxwoods are planted in the same pot so that they are bushier faster. Such a deal!. I have always looked for boxwoods with single stems à la LV, but propagating beats sowing, and dividing beats propagating for speed. I have stuck clippings in dirt and left them in the shade for a year, no root hormone or special soil, and voilà - they have roots this year. You just need a lot of patience as it takes a while. Next time get an old bread knife to do the cutting! It was fun to watch this! 💚🌳

I'm so excited to watch this. Perfect timing. I just bought 3gallon size green velvet box woods at Costco. It was such a deal at $18 each, I intentionally over bought for the new garden bed I'm working on. I wanted to play , with the couple extras, and start making topiary. Now I can make even more. Thank you!

Awesome! Can't wait to see how they turn out. I started a forsythia topiary from a cutting back in spring. I wasn't holding out much hope it only had two leaves. We had a heavy rain the other day and it grew a few more set of leaves. I can't wait to see if it will bloom next spring. Thanks for sharing full watch 🙂
When I saw you get to the last bunch and the final plant had the two limbs, my mind immediately said it could be bamboo trained into a cloud (or poodle) shape.
I did this last year and only one died which was my fault. I planted it with an annual and it didn't like the weekly fertilizer I was doing. I made more again this past week and I got 17 plants from like 6 boxwoods. I'm gonna keep doing this so one day I'll have lots of boxwood topiaries.
Brandon I cannot wait to see how these do. I have gardenedi for years and I always look to see if something I am purchasing has a bonus plant. With boxwoods i have found that buying those $10-12 boxwoods check for multistems and those separate amazingingly well compared to the larger, thickly stemmed plants that are more woody. They are all “cute as a button!” Also a great way to grow more and more!

Ide even use a little rooting hormone on the roots when we had a storm that pushed a blue Colorado spruce over breaking huge roots i dug out under the roots that were exposed poured a liquid form of rooting hormone rebarried them and pulled the tree about 20 foot tall back to level kept it staked 3 years and youde never know I just couldn't stand to see a beautiful tree die if I could save it .it took a truck to pull it back up . But its grew another 5 foot since

I keep a serrated bread knife in my tool bucket for cutting roots of things root bound and things I am dividing.
I looked high and low for a old bread knife but couldn’t find one. Guess I’ll have to treat myself lol 😂

I’m not sure about bamboo. It is so invasive I avoid it. But who knows, anything is possible.

You can try it…. But I’d definitely ensure it’s heavily insulated and protected from the elements. The cold could been too much for it and kill it.
