Time for some singleplayer content while online is processing
Singleplayer is probably the thing most people have started with. I was not one of those people, because quite frankly I want play with human beings. However, that doesn't mean I didn't play a lot of singleplayer racers such as Snowboard Kids, Crash Team Racing, Rollcage Stage 2, and more.
When it comes to those games, I would say the rubberbanding in Snowboard kids is the most nasty. However, its still nothing compared to what this game has from what I heard and already seen here.
So, the way rubberbanding works in most games is that when you are far ahead from a CPU player, the CPU starts to get "cheated" boost to get back closer to you. Once they are close enough they stop rubberbanding and act "normal" again. Usually, this stop of rubberbanding occurs when the CPU is still behind you so being fast still feels encouraging.
What occurs in this game is that not only will they rubberband, but they also get ahead of you. Only then they calm down. This make driving well and using rings very useless. You can see multiple times through even those very first cups (yes, very first) that the rubberbanding and difficulty in general is already quite nasty.
So in the middle of the grand prix I was thrown into a round that was set into a battle map. Nothing appeared on screen like "Break the capsules" or something. Just a countdown and it was up to me to figure out what to do. Of course there were targets on screen, but there was also a blue gauge increasing in the bottom left, so I thought I had to fill that first. Turns out, nope. I had to use those items that were teached to me in the tutorial to break the capsules. My bad, its a mistake I only make once through this thing.
At the end of Sneaker Cup I had to do an Chaos Emerald chase. I was thrown into the stage, again nothing appearing on screen like "CHASE THE EMERALD" nope it was thrown into the stage the emerald was going away and it was up to me figuring out what was going on and taking action. I feel for a game that has this massive tutorial that wants to teach you, it really lacks on some things I would find quite important, like letting the user know what they need to do so their defeat doesn't feel like a "I wasted too much time figuring out what to do" and more their own fault.
Overall, I have heard a couple people say they have more fun in online because its actually playing with humans and not rubberbanding robots, and I agree. Its nice way to learn about maps and general gameplay, but I really suggest going online once you got the feel for the game instead of staying here.
Amazing presentation though. I really like how the podium looks and Tyron's great tunes.
    Enjoy watching.

Enjoying this game is certainly an acquired taste.
Initially, I hated the BS the game threw at me (slopes, mandatory ring management, pre-race positioning, janky physics, rubberbanding, sadistic track design, etc.), but after playing for a few hours, I started to enjoy overcoming the BS. Learning this game was a steep curve, but once I got the hang of it, I started to really enjoy it.

Read the description for my initial thought and icky things I had about it.

Yea, I had issues too, especially when I hit the capsule in the special stage too many times and just quickly dusted me.

I think I'm entitled to an harassement lawsuit against the rival CPU

On top of what you said in the description, I also don't like how the game doesn't tell you what you're supposed to do to access the special stage at the end of a GP. I heard it has something to do with your score through the whole GP, but said score isn't shown anywhere, and the score required for the special stage isn't shown either. It makes it feel like complete luck if you manage to get in or not. The difficulty of the special stages are also insane. It should take way fewer hits to break open the container and free the emerald. It sucks that, even if you do manage to free it, the emerald can still outrun you and get to the end before your able to grab it, resulting in a failure.

I genuinely need to take anger management and therapy bcs of those damn special stages.

The difficulty of the special stages are less difficult and more schizophrenic. The second special stage took me like a dozen tries to get right (and restarting sucks because you have to go through the GP and hope you do well enough again to get back into the stage), but the third and fourth ones? Psshaw I got them done first try.

@@medicindisquise4271Most are not too difficult. The second one from the bottom row, though, is straight up insane. 10+ tries and two days of daily attempts and i barely made it.

The rubberbanding for regular NPCs from my experience is honestly fine and while a little challenging is manageable outside of the occasional rotten luck. It is the RIVAL cpu, however, that gives me the most grief. People datamined the files and revealed that the designated RIVAL cpu gets a buff that basically gives them DOUBLE the ring boost and tether boost that the player normally gets, which is probably it's so easy for them to constantly overtake you. Theoretically this was done so singleplayer is not just a mindless race and they have something to contend with, but in practice it feels like the RIVAL cpu is constantly overtaking you no matter what you do, to say nothing of the 6 other decently competent cpus also trying to jockey for first. Definitely something they need to tone down in a future patch.
Other than that, I agree that they don't really make it clear what you're meant to do for the capsule segments or the UFO chase, the capsules are intuitive enough but "CHASE THE EMERALD" is super vague and doesn't really properly convey what the player is meant to do, which is attack the capsule until it releases the emerald.
I will say though, since it's tangentially related to what you mentioned at the beginning, although my main account on my pc has everything unlocked via the codes and is mainly for online play, I installed it on my Steam Deck as well with a fresh save and there has been a sense of satisfaction to be gleaned from playing the game "As the devs intended". Slowly unlocking things as you play and filling out the challenge board has been enjoyable, and has served as a motivator to trudge through the grand prixs to gradually access more content. Obviously if you only care about the online aspect then it's completely ignorable, but I think if not for the somewhat iffy physics and overtuned CPU rubber banding, the single player content is quite girthy.

I'm kind of a perfectionist, or, a lot of a perfectionist. So the rubberbanding is destroying this game for me. It doesn't matter how well I perform, there's always laps that I'm suddenly overtaken by my rival right at the finishline. Then at the end, you're graded not just on weather you got first second or third, but what place you were in at each lap crossing. Meaning that rubber banding rival is a threat to a perfect 6/6 20/20 1st place, even if you manage 1st place by the end.
Also, he catches up the moment you stop using rings, but if you use your rings constantly as you're encouraged to to keep reasonable speed, then he will still catch up and ram you. The other decent CPUs then catch up immediately.
I actually don't mind how complicated the game is, I like the use of rings, but it sucks to get better and not actually improve numerically by the games rating.
