    how about heavier chain link ? since the rotationnis done by somthing that have a high torque you could have a block of metal 3 or concret to give ti some mass and avoid some of the bounces

    • @oggi42gaming77
      @oggi42gaming77  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment gm desert. I tried this while prototyping but it is a balance. A little bouncing also helps the machine not to get stuck. You can probably optimise this concept further bu at some point I had to stop myself from tinkering around... I try to keep the complexity reasonable and I really like the look of my final chain.

    Which mining scheme do YOU prefer?
    A/Lag fest
    B/Lag fest but automated somewhat

    • @oggi42gaming77
      @oggi42gaming77  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed producing a lot of lag by mining seems to be unavoidable due to all the rocks on the ground. The only way I can think of to avoid this would be to mine one rock after another and getting it directly refined....
      So yes, my answer is definitely B :)

      @@oggi42gaming77 inspired by your video, i’m trying out a sort of design that uses the chain link concept but with only one link to hug the terrain better with a piston and controller to do this sweep in motion along with the spinning, maybe a look into that next time?

  • @danser_theplayer01

    Make the drills slow, when they are too fast they don't get more power and they bounce off the rocks. The drilling is tied to fps anyway so if you have a slow drill it won't bounce and will have same "drilling power" + more time in contact with the rocks.

    • @oggi42gaming77
      @oggi42gaming77  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks a lot for this useful info DANser. Drills are still a mystery to me. So you claim that the speed of rotation does not affect the performance of the drill it all? I alway had the feeling they run better with more powerful engines but I really don't know for sure...

    • @danser_theplayer01
      @danser_theplayer01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@oggi42gaming77 You can notice that the mining vehicles mine slower than just putting the drill on a stick. That because mining vehicles create lag which slows down framerate and also slide away from rocks. The fast bouncy drills have the same issue with contact as the mining vehicles. If you put a drill on a controller (which is pretty slow compared to engine) the drill miraculously shreds the rock in seconds. The game doesn't give you more power if you speed them up, there is just no code for that.
      Would've been handy to know that before I played vanilla....

    • @oggi42gaming77
      @oggi42gaming77  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danser_theplayer01 Thanks a lot for clarifying! Guess I'll need to upgrade my mining chain to controller Drills

    • @oggi42gaming77
      @oggi42gaming77  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danser_theplayer01 I tried to use controllers for the drills instead of an engine but unfortunately it didn't work. I wasn't able to break a single rock, also the "drillsound" wouldn't play. I was pretty sure it would work because I've seen slow rotating drills in another video but so far I wasn't able to reproduce it. Maybe it was possible in an earlyer version of the game but was removed...

      Thank's for the comment Next Robo, but the answer sadly is probably not for now. I only want to make a video if I think I can add something new to the topic. Suspension types have been discussed a lot before and there are good videos out there.
      I am a big fan of the double wishbone suspension seen here:

    I also saw Dr Pixel Plays video and I tried it. It didn't work as well for me as it did for him so I tried something like you did (but I didn't spend neaearly as much time perfecting it) and then I just ended up building a mining vehicle again. Just a slab of metal with front and rear steering, suspensions to lift the entire vehicle, 2 collectors and a refiner. It's pushing 5 drills across the ground and it grinds up rock nodes quite well. I'm not sure why this time it works so well, I've made some shitty miners in the past, but it's pretty quick and noticably quicker than this. I do really like your video's, not here to crap on your ideas, but once you have a good mining vehicle (which seems to be partially luck based lol) it's still a more effective method in my experience.
    But having said that, on my pc the machine that Dr. Pixel Plays made isn't nearly as effective. So maybe my machine wouldn't work the same on another pc? I do still think framerate might affect how well drilling/sawing works.

    • @oggi42gaming77
      @oggi42gaming77  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your input OttoNL. I really like the fact that this machine is semi-automated. I have to agree that this is not the fastest way to mine in existence... just wanted to try something new and fun. That's what the game is about at the first place, right? I also agree on your observation that mining seems to be somewhat linked to performance... very annoying...

      Hey Andrey, thanks for the comment. With the previous machine you mean the Drill on a stick? You are right... it would probably be the fastest way to mine: Just driving from deposit to deposit and mine just 50% of the stuff...
      But the chain also gets most of the stuff lying on the ground... I like to ressourceful :)

    This is cool and all, but one problem lots of bearings a.k.a. lots of lag

    • @oggi42gaming77
      @oggi42gaming77  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Pingu. Yes and no... the lag that occurs from mining seems to be coming mostly from the many rocks on the ground. The mining chain does not have that many bearings if you compare it to other big mining vehicles. Think of all the wheels alone. I am sure if you compared them side by side (on a better pc than I have that is...) the chain would do just fine.

      You're right about mining rods being heavy on fps. Listen you got me got nothing to add, besides at least you divided mining drills from rod collectors, cuz for some reason when drills and collectors are on the same creations mining rocks is slower.

      @@pingu7910 Thanks a lot Pingu! So kind of you to say that.
      Having collectors and Drills on the same vehicle slows down the game? Scrap mechanic's physics are so strange...

    • @pingu7910
      @pingu7910 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oggi42gaming77 I could be wrong here, but having collectors and drills on same vehicle doesn't slow down the game necessarily, but if I remember correctly having collectors on vehicle take space from CPU/RAM and mining/sawing is tied to frames. So having everything on one vehicle takes longer to get the job done.
      You don't need to bother yourself by this I saw it on some scrap mechanic video I can't find it right now, but who cares.
