  • Using the Rode wireless pro to test 7 common lavalier microphones.

    Sennheiser mke2 gold
    Deity w.lav pro
    Rode lav go
    Rode wireless pro onboard mic
    Rode go ii onboard mic (I got a humming sound on this one, re-tested and seems ok but what do you do?)

    Thoughts on the mics are all my own. I have not been paid for this.

    The Sanken DESTROYS all of those mics, it's not even close. The second best is the Lav II IMO. Great test, thank you (I'm about to buy this mainly to use with the sanken)

      By chance could you elaborate? I listened to the video twice, once with my klipsch external speakers and a second time with my ATH-M50x headphones and I noticed the Sanken is definitely better than the lav II, but I don't know about destroying it. What's your reasoning there? To my ear the cos11 is just more balanced, where the lav II is a bit bass heavy and lacking in the high end.
      However, in the section at the end where all gains have been adjusted to be equal, imo the sennheiser is my new number 2. Thanks!!

      For me it’s a number of things. Build quality, size and how I can conceal it better on talent. Plus I do feel it’s a cleaner/clearer sound.
      Don’t get me wrong, the price of the rode lav 2 is huge bang for buck and does sound good. I just like the sanken better for my ears :)
      I’ve just put another video up for you with a direct side by side of the two lavs.

      @@videographerstuff539 whoa, a whole new video was not at all what I was expecting, thank you so much! I really appreciate the detailed reply, as there really aren’t that many videos on youtube detailing the difference between the prosumer type lavs (dji wireless mics, rode wireless pro) and the tv broadcast type lavs (sanken, dpa 6060, countryman b6, etc) so thank you

    I was wondering what the Sanken Cos 11 would sound like as I have ordered it to go with the rode pro thanks for doing the test.

    Do you think its worth getting a cos11 with the rode wireless pro? Or do you think it would be better to just get something like a Sony UWP system and the cos 11? I really cant decide what kind of lav setup to go with because I want something convenient like the Rode or DJI (Which I already have) but I want better sound quality. The DJI is meh and it wont work with the cos 11. The Rode sounds better and works with the cos 11 but I think the sony UWP kit has way more headroom and is just better sounding. But its way more money and not as compact. Helpppp lol

      Yeah that’s a tough one for sure. It really is up to you and how you think the gear will best suit you setup and style of work. I’ve never owned the Sony set but have used one of the models a few years back and it was all good.
      For me and my setup/ style of work the cos 11 and rode setup has worked nicely. My work is mostly interview in both indoor and outdoor settings and generally under an hour of interview. The size is a huge factor of convenience. I never liked have the larger receivers on my camera especially when also using a video transmitter like the hollyland mars 4K. There’s just not enough space for me on my camera.
      The other part that annoyed me of the bigger packs was always having to remember to charge and pack spare aa batteries. Mind you, it’s a real pain if the rode runs flat on a shoot and you meet to plug a usb-c in to charge it while still using it.
      I haven’t really pushed the distance of the rodes yet, I’m always pretty close to talent but I’m guessing the Sony ones would have a stronger signal that goes further as well right? Maybe the Sony build quality would be better as well, it might that more beatings out and about then the rode would.
      I do love the safety of having the recording captured to the rode and as sending it to camera. I think it the bigger packs did that the appeal would be there for sure.
      Sorry! I don’t know if this has helped or made it harder!! Haha

    It sounds like the Sennheiser MKE2 has lowest output. Is that correct?

    • @videographerstuff539
      @videographerstuff539  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah In my tests it’s way lower than the others. I do like the sound it gets though.
      Probs prefer cos11 all in all but both are great.

      @videographerstuff539 I just learned from Rode that the MKE2 needs 7.5V phantom power. The Rode Wireless Pro Transmitters can only deliver 5V. So that might explain the low gain there. I wonder how much the Cos11D need.

    • @videographerstuff539
      @videographerstuff539  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That’s super interesting, I had no idea lavs could need phantom power!
      Im totally going to plug it into my Sennheiser and deity transmitters and see if the starting gain point is any different. It’s been a while since I’ve used them together.
      You’ve made my day with this, thanks!

      @@videographerstuff539 Hello, I've myself tested the mke2 with the rode wireless pro system and it's in my opinion unusable due to the low voltage and therefore delivered gain. However do you know if the Sanken Cos 11, DPA 4060, Countryman B3 or B6 needs as much power to function ? Which one needs the least amount ? Thank you :)
