I’m considering getting the rode wireless pro and pairing it with the Sanken COS 11D. Is there any combo you’d recommend over this? I primarily shoot real estate and realtors both in and outdoors.
Thats the perfect situation!
Many of us spend too much time worrying about gear. I’ve certainly been guilty of it. However, when the C400 came out, I jumped from the FX6. It was an easy decision for MY purposes. But it’s a very personal decision. When I have issues with my footage, the fault is typically the person I see in the mirror.
Welcome to club canon :) Did you have much glass to change over as well?
@@videographerstuff539 No. I came to video from photography and I was a Canon shooter. I bought a used FX6 for its amazing low light capabilities. But since I film wildlife and often predators, I wanted a 6k camera. And fortunately I already have a good collection of Canon glass.
Just wait till RED Nikon drops and we all lose our minds all over again
Hahaha you’ve seen the future! This is very true!
Seems quite busy. What do you think of it compared to Wooden Cage? I decided to order a wooden cage elite system but I was contemplating between this and wooden. The bulk scared me off from this one. What are your thoughts?
With the Tilta one I wish the top handle didn’t take up so much space. They could have gotten away with one screw at each end rather than the four screws it has. I’m pretty happy otherwise. The price of the wooden camera one was out of my price range but it does look great. It’s had to tell on the specs on their websites which one is heavier but my Tilta one does add some weight to the camera.
@@videographerstuff539I’ll weigh it and let you know. 👍🏽
@@videographerstuff539 it’s about 1,579g for all parts only, (not mounted to the camera, which weighs 2,715g with the side hand grip, battery, monitor and cable) For the wooden elite kit, once you take off some of the parts you may not need, like the rods, or baseplate, top 1/3 pieces, nato rail, etc which is very well designed for the wooden gear, you can vary your gear from 400g for just the top plate, handle mounts and handle (and you can mount much to just these pieces) all the way up to the 1,579g with the whole setup, or anything in between. I may make a video about it. :)
Yeah you should totally do a video! The more details like this out in the world will help people decide for sure!
Rode Pro or DJI mic ? Pair with DJI camera Pro5?
Given that you can pair the DJI mic directly via Bluetooth to the DJI action 5 I would recommend that. If you used a rode system you’d have to plug the receiver unit into the DJI action 5 and have to mount in on there. I’ve never actually use the DJI mic but lots of people do and they seem fine. support.dji.com/help/content
Really nice video
Cheers
Very helpful tests! Any chance you'd be willing to upload some of your files for us to download and check out for ourselves outside of Yt's compression? Also, wondering if you've seen this video, and what you think about his findings? I'm not convinced by his presentation. Relevant test starts at around 11:30: th-cam.com/video/UfOBRevstYA/w-d-xo.html
How did I end up at a club? This music needs to be changed.
Gotta change it up a little every now and then 😉
Thank you! Great demonstration 💚🤗💫
My pleasure!
Kondor BLue…..
Did you go with kondor? If so, are you happy??
I absolutely love my C400. I'm getting excellent performance at 800 and 3200 and usable footage at 12800. Compared to my c70 its literally night and day. The c70 is nearly unusable at 3200 and laughable past 3200. These tests are absolutely the worst possible situation for a camera to be in. I've seen other reviewers who immediately crap on the C400 for its low light but they are only going off of numbers and not real world experience. So far id say that the raw is slightly worse than the FX6 but in my opinion the XF AVC is on par if not a little better than the Sony sensors. Great video!
Yeah the c70 was pretty funny past 3200. I had to go 6400 a few times. Only delivered in HD on those occasions 😉
Well the internal ND’s work !! Great shot!!
Haha thanks heaps!
The Itchy feet concept is an interesting way to frame this. I’m at a point where my a7s3 is starting to fall a little short of what I need and feeling a little dated. It’s been a great cam and has great value but I find myself needing a bit more resolution and a bit more dynamic range. The release of the c400 doesn’t have me ready to switch all together but looking at the fx6 and fx9, they don’t feel like enough of an upgrade to justify the spend (especially with the age on those cams). And even the Burano doesn’t tick all the boxes for me so really losing hope that an fx6ii or FX9ii will come in to save the day speced with what I’m looking for. I also feel like Sony did us a7s3 users pretty dirty, dropping the fx3 right after our return periods were over and then giving nearly no firmware support for 4 years while all kinds of cams a fraction of the price got the latest bells and whistles. I’m definitely eyeing up Red and Blackmagic more than anything in the Sony line.
Yeah that’s pretty rough of Sony! Defs not the time to buy a fx6 this late in the cycle. That’s unless someone is offloading one cheap. The burano seemed to be priced pretty high for what it is. Would you consider it if it was cheaper?
@ I do a fair amount of outdoor industry and wildlife types of projects. And I’m finding for wildlife work it really is worth it to be able to deliver in 4k, but just by nature of the work, there are a lot of instances where some cropping is necessary to fill the frame and show detail. To crop and publish in 4k of course means shooting 8k but for faster moving subject such as heron it’s great to be able to slow down the action sometimes. I think the Burano is geared more for a multi person production and I probably wouldn’t take advantage of all the I/O. If I go purely by checking the most boxes, the best fit on the market is a Red Raptor XL in S35 with its 8k120. But at $35k body only, that’s not happening. Now Red Komodo X is only 6k but will shoot 6k 80fps in red raw and can be kitted for $10-15k so that’s a possibility. I just don’t see a future where the fx6ii or fx9ii will come in with what I’m looking for because it would put them ahead of Burano. Which is a shame because the form factor and VND is perfect for what I do (used to shoot an FS5)
It’s might be a few minutes until we get 8k 120fps under $10k 😜 How much cropping are you doing in the 4k footage? Is it distractingly obvious if you output it at 4K in the edit?
Nice setup. Would putting the audio receiver on the left side of the frame in a cold shoe mount work for you?
Do you mean up the front left side near the nd filter buttons? I think I could put the rode wireless pro rx there but I think when I use the theos it would get in the way, being that bit bigger.
There’s always a give and take! I’m staying with Canon my R5C has had so many firmware updates, it’s a whole new camera!! I will say we are in a time where 4 years old means your camera is old….. that’s crazy. I’m saving for the C400. After that I’m done with buying cameras for at least 10 years.
Canon has defs shown the love with so many firmware updates. It’s nice not to be left behind even when newer cameras come out. I’ve been really happy pairing r5c and c400 together. They look good together in post.
F* the wiggle!
3 months of use later, how have you found the build quality? Cheers
Yeah it’s all good, I’ve been using it heaps. My only complaint is the leg clamps, even with adjusting the tension I still feel like that will be the first bit to break.
Totalt agree. Own many different brands. (Not fx6) I think fx6 seems like a great camera. Keep it if you got it!
Cheers John!
Do you know if is there a way to use the traditional v mount battery plate on bottom of the camera instead of in front of the scren of the camera ? I think this tilta baseplate is very big
the easiest way would be to just use 15mm rails and have the plate sit further away out the back so it doesn’t get in the way of the screen. I have seen some people put it on the hotshoe on top, but that’s not a good option in my opinion.

There are those v mounts that have hinges as well, on 15mm rails but that might be an option as well
I just got my C400 a week ago. Previously I was running a C70 and an R5 so the C400 is now my A Cam and the C70 is B Cam / Gimbal. So far I am absolutely in love with this thing. I was far too vested in Canon glass to ever consider switching brands and I waited my time for Canon to release this very camera. Highly recommend the C400 to anyone who needs a true A cam and whose business would benefit from such a purchase.
Such a good combo! Oh man we were all very patient waiting for the c400! But as you said, very much worth it!
Same. I did the Sony thing for a while and was still able to use all my Canon EF glass in Sony World. I've had the C400 for a few weeks now and I'm so glad I'm back to Canon with this camera. Glad I didn't sell my EF glass, even though I'm adding on some RF glass for better AF performance. And I was very surprised how well the C400 performed on my Ronin RS2 gimbal. With a 16mm f/2.8 RF pancake lens and the stock battery, it balanced perfectly. Seemed to work even smoother than when I run my R6 on that gimbal. Did a walking through a front door shot where I AF tracked a subject and the lighting went from super bright to dim and used the cameras Auto Exposure for that (which I never do with any other camera), and the way the RF lenses smoothly ramp Exposure instead of 'clicking' it down... the shot worked perfectly. Smooth Track with no shake or bounce, smooth AF lock and then transition infinity when the subject cleared the frame and totally smooth auto exposure management through a tough lighting transition. Really loving this camera.
@@blackburst1 keen to see that shot! Yeah I’m slowly (very slowly) changing over to the rf versions. Defs think there are auto focus advantages for sure 👍
C80 is the way.. just waiting on the FX6II to match the C80.. 😉
It will be very interesting what Sony pack into fx6ii
Great video! What Camera and lens did you use to film your talking head? Looks great. I've had the FX6 and FX3 from the beginning, what I hate most about them is the moire and aliasing and the mushy codecs with that weird Sony tint. Canon and Nikon have much cleaner color. Thanks.
This video was with my c70, 50mm 1.4 and a Godox panel bouncing of the wall. I must admit I’ve never really enjoyed Sonys blues in the highlights. I can spot it a mile away!
As a Canon shooter, I've been struggling with the decision to switch over to Sony. I'm quite unique in this scenario in that I have the opportunity to get all the lenses I want and an FX6 all brand new for half off, along with two other bodies for 20% off. I am an R3 shooter who's been wanting to buy a C400 and am very comfortable using my Canon gear, but to break even/spend a little extra when making the switch is a very hard decision.
Yeah wow that is a hard one, almost a nil cost change over makes it interesting. Is there a client benefit to making the switch atm?
This has inspired a video topic for me. I’m trying to make a list. Care to contribute? (With credit of course!) BEFORE YOU BUY: 1) Will this make me FASTER? 2) Will this improve my QOL? 3) Will this make something I COULDN’T do for an upcoming project possible? (If this is your main reason, rent it!) Must include 2 out of 3 before seriously considering.
I like this! Yeah something around the following, no stress if you don’t use them either ☺️ Will the client notice? Is there return on the investment Do you feel emotionally attached Have you physically tried/ tested said item Ask a friend/ colleague their thoughts Ask someone who has it what they done like about it and would they buy it again
Great stuff. Kudos for the anti-GAS content. I have known for years now that if I was starting from scratch, Sony would be where I’m at. But I’m not starting from scratch. I started from Canon in 2007 and my workflows and lenses have been with Canon. It would take a big problem to switch to Sony.
Thanks! And like really, want could happen to the gear we have right this minute that would make it it useable??? I mean if canon moved to a subscription model where you had to pay for everyone minute of recording or to unlock codecs that would be pretty annoying.
That is the difference with Canon and Sony shooters. You are reasonable and saying don't grab your credit card and go nuts. On the other hand I saw MANY Sony shooters trashing the C70 and telling people to dump Canon a few years ago. It's funny. Now most of those same people have dumped Sony and are shooting RED of something else. I too am well vested in Canon. I never complained. I never had an issue. But I am gonna go the other way. Dump Sony and get a Canon C400!!! Ha.
Haha 😜 or let’s go full circle here, I’m going to sell my house and buy an Alexa. Just need to figure out somewhere to sleep 🤣
And then, there is the FPN: th-cam.com/video/97LAjneEi-4/w-d-xo.html
This is interesting
Just say it, Canon colors. Lol
Haha just trying to protect myself…. 😝
Thanks for the video, great info
Cheers!
I was super stressed! This calmed my nerves, Thank you <3
👍 Are you shooting with fx6?
Note: I said 13 years with canon, I meant to say 6 years, I only changed to Canon in 2018. (13 years was when I sold my Nikon d3 for the Nikon d810)
Great review! Definitely the IS helps a lot
Thanks heaps! Yeah the IS comes in handy!
I’m a zero wiggle guy too
Gotta be safe!
I’m a zero-wiggle-fella

I've just had the joy of one hour good sound and after the one hour file split the second file is corrupt and can't be opened. :'( The App shows 0 seconds of Audio, even though the file is 170 mb big. Anyone knows how to maybe save it? Even my way older Wireless Go II never had this problem. Unfortunately the on camera sound is also not usable as the devices have so many dropouts even though I was only 5 meters away from the Transmitter. I really would love the devices if they would work as advised but having a very hard time to trust them now, especially as the on device backup is so important as I have often dropouts in busy rooms.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that!! I’ve never had that problem, you may have tried this already but my attempt would be to try copy the file directly from the tx unit. Then see if it opens in any type of player or editing software.
@@videographerstuff539 Yes, I did that. Tried via the case and directly from the transmitter, tried via the app and via explorer etc. Also tried multiple softwares. I now wrote the Rode support, maybe they know something. Saw also other users had the same problem. :(
@@simonkipfer1833bugger! I hope rode can sort you out. Was there any on camera audio you can run through adobe podcast AI to try have something usable?
I have the Tilta base so I could keep the Canon handle. It's light and strong.
Canon did do a good job on the c400 handle for sure. 👍
Makes life easier for the audio, thats for sure!
Mk2 and Sanken.
Yeah I’m a big fan of the Sanken, it’s a workhorse! I do like the touch of extra brightness of the mk2
Hello! What are your DSP settings on the mic?
Hey! It’s been a while since I did this video but I would have just recorded straight into the rode connect app. I doubt I adjusted any settings. I might have added a compressor in fcp to boost levels. (Can’t remember) When I use this mic on my rode caster pro 2 I generally turn off the noise reduction because I don’t like the effect it has on the overall experience
I forgot to put this: gain +60, depth about 3/4 full, sparkle about 3/4 full, punch about 6/8 full
Looks good on is more clear and looks more professional 👍
Yeah the halo frost gives a nice wrap of light. I like it
Thanks for the video. I've been shooting a ton since I got mine and am loving it. In raw it really looks great at ISO 800. It's noisier at base ISO 3200 but its still a really nice look... the noise looks organic and textural, until it gets compressed for TH-cam and then the noise looks like blocky garbage and I hate it. So I feel like ISO 3200 benefits from some denoising unless you can deliver it in a way that doesn't compress it a lot like YT does. Then base ISO 12,800.. ugh. It's a ton of noise. It isn't pretty. But you can denoise it pretty well and it's usable. Shooting XF-AVC intra frame 10 bit has been really nice. The built-in noise reduction can really nicely handle the higher ISOs.
The YT compression can be brutal at times! I’m going keep having a play with raw one projects that I’m the editor for. When I’m on external projects that go to other editors they never want raw. I had a good rest of the 4k 120 and hd 180fps the other day. Really beautiful stuff! Thanks for the great comment!
Hi, and thank you for your content! Could you please do a test and share your opinion on the differences between RAW HQ, RAW ST, and RAW LT?
Leave it with me and I’ll see what can do 👍
In night shots did you check any grains in its maximum video size when you shot with higher ISO? I am actually so wonder to know how it performs for theatrical screen size when shot in higher ISO... especially in night shots
I haven’t really had a chance to look at it beyond my 32” 4k monitors. That is a good idea though, I’ll try check it on a bigger screen somewhere. 🤔
In depth. I’ve done a way smaller but similar test with the C400. I prefer Raw for the latitude but xfavc AI is a great B choice.
So do you keep all the raw footage long term Or just handoff and you don’t have to worry about keeping the data? I watched a video a while back about a fella who shoots raw, grades/ corrections, then exports those clips to work from. Then deletes the raw clips.
@@videographerstuff539 RAW LT isn't that bad for file size. Once I send a finished job I only keep the end result. Unless it's a person I will shoot/client I will use some of the footage in other jobs. Some are clearly a one and done job.
I have the C80. (Just started a channel informing and educating about it) and my plan is to shoot one stop below at the 2 higher ISOs. So at 3200 base I’d shoot at 1600. This should help reduce my work in post getting noise levels to a tolerable level even in long gop which is how I usually work. I know you lose highlight retention is this scenario but I find that shooting in low light highlight retention is generally moot. I want my dark scenes to look dark so the more shadow detail the better.
I can see the value in that option for sure. I’ll give that a crack this week. The smaller file size of Long gop is very handy for lot of my work. What’s your c80 channel? I’m not currently planning on getting one but I’m keen to check it out
I not 100%, but looks like with mic levels there is a bit more noise + there was some hiss at the beginning after you switched to the mic levels. I'm listening on the headphones.
Yes I think the camera pre amps will always be a bit more noisy in mic level, I think that’s the case in most cameras (I think)🤔 I think now with where ai is currently at, we can reduce that noise safely without it sounding too weird or robotic.
Love it.. check out the f10 fresnel.. it will give you sun turbo powers.. I just been researching.. 😎
Totally, I have one and it does help for sure 👍 Been tempted to buy a second f10 but don’t want to spend the money
Shoot it in raw, what the heck lol
Yep, got some other raw test on the channel 👍
where did you get the 400 camera I have. not been able to get one.
Videopro here in Brisbane, I went on the waitlist pretty much straight away when canon announced it. I think they currently have them in stock.
looking sharp for being 12800, what's your opinion on this footage?
Yeah I was impressed. I think it will be really useful when needed. I haven’t had to go that high on jobs yet, but nice to know I can if needed
