Why I'm Switching From My Sennheiser G4's to the Rode Wireless Pro's

I've used these Sennheiser G3's and G4's for years now. I thought I'd probably always use them because I saw these new lavalier systems as finnicky and too new to change. The Rode Wireless Pro's changed my mind on all fronts and now I've switched over without regret. And no this is not sponsored by Rode, we purchased the Sennheiser's years ago with our own money, and did the same with the Rode Wireless Pro's.

I read some of your other comments where you say the audio from the G4s are better. Is that due to the mics, or the transmission? What about the Rode Pro with a better mic internal recording/ no transmission? I want to use it for live musicians, so I want great audio, but Sennheiser is so expensive.

The mics that come with the sennheiser are much better. Transmission wise I prefer the Rode. The Sennheiser has transmission issues if you’re not constantly finding the right frequency which is annoying to do in a high pressure situation. I don’t have that issue with the Rode. I really regret messing up my audio when recording this since I had a side by side 😩
I haven’t tried my Sennheiser mics on the Rode, so that’d be an interesting experiment. If I ever have time to film another video maybe I’ll do full side by side testing.

reason it's cheaper is because it uses free digital 2.4ghz instead of radio where they need to pay for license.

I was going to in a short follow up video but then work got crazy :/
I will say just straight up the Sennheiser’s sound much better. BUT it depends on what you need them for. If the audience won’t know the difference and you can do just a little bit of work in post then the Rode’s will be great. The Sennheiser’s better sound better at their price point and they’re a staple in the industry for over a decade for a reason.

@@steveperry4243 thank you for the kind words! You have 2 options really. My preference for talking head is always a shotgun/boom mic. Much better audio quality out of even a low end shotgun than out of a lav. Even the budget Sennheiser MKE600 will sound fuller than the Sennheiser G4 lavs. That being said if your room has a lot of reverb and you have a lot of background noise (kids, construction, cars passing, etc) then the lav will be a better choice and the Rode Wireless Pro’s sound good. They don’t sound like the G4’s but at their price they can’t. I honestly wouldn’t suggest the G4’s to anyone unless you’re going into a full production, short film, or broadcast where the G4’s have been a staple for years anyway.

Hi again Steven. My space(s) is untreated, and not super noisy but not super quiet either - apartment life is so random noise-wise. I have an unopened Go Wireless II that I can return for full refund and get Wireless Pro (or just keep GO II), and/or invest in shotgun as you mentioned in similar price range, or a dynamic in that price range (had my eyes on the SE Dynacaster in particular).
