I would totally agree, it makes me want to cry too. Plus where I live people would much rather throw bikes away and get new ones, instead of just keeping them and I’m talking about old vintage USA made bicycles. That breaks my heart and that makes me wanna cry.
Very satisfying restoring an old bike. Have done several over the years. Have sold a few, but kept most. Great to ride them after all your hard work. Well done.
Great job! Much closer to everybody's reality: no overpriced components but all simple and funtional! Actually, you were very lucky for being able to disassemble it all without seized parts! I have one in my garage which stem and fork are frozen! Probably will have to sacrifice the stem and hopefully still rescue the fork! Congrats for this amazing restoration!
Great job sir. Have done my share and have ridden them many road miles. To the un initiated, a good steel bicycle can be determined from several features. Let me tell you about these features.....😎 Lugs. The welded brackets at the tube junctutes(top and down tube at the head set, the saddle stays and the saddle tube, the lower stays and bottom bracket and the rear hub stays). Lighter steel fitted into the lugs and welded/grazed . Braze on fittings to accommodate components, such as F/R derailers, shifters on down tube and even a peg for the hand pump under the top tube. Cotterless crank arms. Quality cranks worth weight in gold Handle bar stem with a recessed/flush bolt, metric allen wrench adjustable. Saddle post of quality will only have a fore and after traverse. Height adjustments via post vertical throw. A steel frame can be incredibly light and strong. And, it can be re aligned and welded. Good luck with composites and carbon fiber. Just some tips...hope it helps in your purchase.
Three years ago I restored my old bike too ( not so old, a 1994 Road bike). Now is a single gear bike, almost the same color of yours. Congrats, great job! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Another great restoration!! Whatever the brand was before is irrelevant. That's a "Cycle Fields" bike now!! Two suggestions that might make your work a bit easier - "Rust-Oleum" makes a spray primer/filler that helps fill in minor imperfections when sprayed on. Might help save you the trouble of using body filler in some cases. Also, get a snap on handle for your spray cans. You can get them at any hardware store or Walmart and it makes using spray cans ALOT easier and you have better control while spraying. And your finger won't get tired. God bless.👍
@@DontCryAboutIt Perhaps, but wherever he is there could very well be a hardware store, or something like it. You'd be surprised where you can buy certain products. He has paint, so maybe he can find primer too. But thanks for the smartass reply that no one asked for.🤗
I restored a similar bike last month, it has even a similar paint (Ral 5012). Mine was not that rusty, since you typically don't find such rusty frames in Europe, they are scrapped long before they look like this. It was once a black trekking bike built by Campus (a brand from Freiburg, South Germany), now it's a flatbar road bike. The condition was relatively good before, so I could use almost all components, it has a 1980s Deore groupset including biopace chain rings made from aluminum, with original 1980s Alesia aluminum rims made in Belgium.
I was soo happy to see that you restored a bike that was ACCTUALY rusty:) nowdays we just see fake restorations with things covered in chocolate and brown paint:(
@@CycleFields as someone who works on my own bike... HOW ARE YOURE TOOLS SO ORGANISED? mine are everywhere hahhaha good job glad you took everything appart to restore:)

You're a hero mate. Seeing an old lugged steel frame in that state makes me want to cry but you did a great job bringing it back to life.
