I have a female shiba. She’s great and loves all dogs and humans. Pretty friendly towards humans but definitely not eager to please. Also not food motivated. Found her as a stray and I love her she’s amazing.

Mine found me too as a stray... under my house to stay warm when it got below zero degrees.
Pet Rescue couldn’t get her out and told me she was abused and I could never trust her.
But now that I found out what she is... it’s her personality. 🤣

You mean you found someones lost dog and kept it, you don't find designer breeds for free as strays.

Biggest difference i noticed is my female having a much higher prey drive and seems to love every person/dog while the male was more aloof towards strangers but much more energetic in general.

    • @L0VETANK
      @L0VETANK หลายเดือนก่อน

That's interesting - I'd read it was the other way round and that males were generally friendlier (and more likely to cuddle up) and females more aloof. Tough question I'm sure but which would you recommend?

Have male and female, they’re problem solving smart, so know they are not without their own ideas.
They’ll pick up things just by watching you. They are my babies and love them very much

It's so odd you feel the need to share that they're your "babies" and that you love them 😂
That aside, Shiba are the most intelligent dog I've ever seen.

I hear female shibas are drama queens. I only have a male shiba and some of the females i have met are pretty loud. But some are very calm. It's what jimmy's mom said about training. I get a lot of compliments on how my 10 month old is very calm, social and playful. It could also be his personality from his mom. Because we met his mom and she was sooooooooooo friendly and calm. So i guess a few factors go into what you might except from your shiba in general, regardless of gender.

I've got a male and a female Shiba-Inu. My boy (Shiba, 4yo) walks without his leash most of the time (he nearly never leaves my side or comes right back when I call him). He learned 'sit' right away but after that he wasn't really interested in learning other tricks. I took him to different teachers but in the end, he only knows basics and important commands like 'come', 'stay', 'give' or 'stop'. He is not really talk-active but he loves all kind of animals, other dogs and people, even strangers. He may look like a big bear but he doesn't always like cuddling. He is afraid of nothing but fireworks.
Sora (6months old), female, is the opposite: she loves training (she can do tricks like, sit, give paw, roll etc etc) and omg she talks A LOT - Like all the time and she tries to do so with other dogs as well. While Shiba doesn't like water - it's hard to get her out of the water. She is bit more of a scary-kitty tho - so while she loves other doggos she is keeping her distance from strangers and many things she doesn't know yet. But she loves cuddling very much!
They both aren't really food motivated, so I often have to be creative. Both are really clean - they would constantly clean each other at home.
I don't know which gender is ""better"" but my girl is sassy and more of a drama queen. A while ago she even tried to train me but I made it clear that she can't order me around as she pleases but since then she seems more obedient than before. 🤷‍♀️

I recently got a male pup. He's really smart and clever... when he wants to be. Lol
I taught him to 'sit,' 'shake' and 'lay down' in a few tries. Highly food motivated.
Only issue is he's still learning to go potty outside, but he hasn't had many accidents.
    He doesn't like mud.
As someone who has grown up with huskies, shiba are not as difficult to train.

I grew up with cats, so I never really got to know dogs. That all changed when I met my future wife, who owned a female Shiba pup. 13 years later and they are still the leading ladies in my life. Shibas are somewhat cat-like so it actually was an easy transition. They are awesome.

We kept the male shiba and sold his sisters. One of the females was definitely waaaaaay smarter than her brother. However, we kept the male because of his sweet personality. He is a super smart dog too, but not a genius dog like his sister was. It would have been fun to keep a dog that could be taught how to fetch and use the doggy door instantaneously at 4 weeks but our male is so good natured it outweighs any of that.

I am on my second set of shibas which were/are both brother/sister. I have found what you talk about to be true. I have noticed differences in the personalities both good and bad. I love the differences, so I keep getting one of each! I noticed the males are more laid back and clever while the girls rule the house and just get right into trouble without bothering trying to be clever. The girls would also have the tendency to clean the boys up especially cleaning the ears. Gross. I love watching the mix of the personalities. The boys do seem more eager to please and are slightly easier to train.

I have a girl shiba. She's obedient with me, but couldn't care less about anything or anyone else. We have two other dogs (different breeds) and she does not like to interact with them. She dislikes going on walks and she doesn't like rides in the car. She will take off if not careful when opening doors and she is extremely food motivated and very agile. She has caught mice in the backyard. Her fur is soft ASF; like a stuffed animal toy come to life.

I have a 7 years old female Shiba (first dog) and just got a little male Shiba (he's 6 months old now) and I don't know if it's just because of gender but Wow! They are so different one to another! Haha! Definitely my little boy is more dependant to me than my girl. It's not just because he's a puppy still. He always wants to cuddle and come close to me but my female, even as a puppy, was the most independant haha. This is one thing I like more about him. But it all comes to a balance. I believe that the fac my female is more independant and doesn't care about anything around her, makes her very calm and silent. She never barks unless very specific. I notice my male barks a lot more for more reaons! For cleanliness it's also night and day! My female was clean from almost day 1 I got her (at 8 weeks old). Never really got an accident inside. Little male still needs the pee pads and have some accident beside when too excited. He was also a very big eater at the beginning. I had to buy a slow eater bowl because he was swallowing everything at once haha My female was always a princess when time for food, eating super slowly. In summary, I absolutely don't know what would be the preference! I love the fact that he wants more cuddles, but I love that she is more calm and silent. When I got her I was still at school and in an appartment (not supposed to have dogs allowed...) so the fact that she was that calm (still excited as a puppy though!), no one noticed I had a dog haha. The breeder suggested me a female to be more independant and let me study when I need so she wouldn't feel left aside because they are more independant. I think it worked well :)

I love my female Shiba. She’s an absolute terror but she has such a personality! Her screams make me laugh all the fucking time. She so ridiculous that I can’t help but giggle. I never trained her because I liked her disposition. I liked that she was disobedient shit.
So when she finally came when I called, and she does it all the time now, I feel so happy.
No treats. No training. Just wanted to come.
    Best feel ever!

OMG, I was laughing so much at the first 3 minutes of this vid! I have littermates, a male and a female. My female is the pleaser, super smart, learns tricks and is much more friendly than her brother. My male is EVERYTHING Shiba … wants affection on HIS terms, knows his manners but only when he feels they are necessary (usually for treats), and couldn’t give a rat’s a$$ about being friendly, esp around other dogs. They have been this way since puppyhood and they are now almost 11YO. Both are extremely clean (my female is grooming ME as I watch this vid) and very healthy. And to me, I agree with the “females look softer” comment … I usually see a “delicate”-ness when I see females. Boys usually look a bit more “beefy”. But as you said, everything is in general. 😊

I have a 5 year old male who is super smart and was super easy to train. He caught on quickly with hardly no accidents at all. We have 4 kids that have done everything with him so he's super friendly. He loves visitors and he loves all 6 family members the same. He listens great and has to be in the same room as one of us at all times. However he is not super cuddly. Only on his terms. He is obsessed with playing fetch ALL THE TIME. We recently got a female who is now 9 mths. She is more timid and very affectionate to all 6 family members. Always laying with us or trusting us to protect her. She took forever to train and is very picking on where she uses the bathroom. Even still will have an accident here and there. And she is super scared of strangers. She barks and growls at them like crazy. They were raised in the same environments so its just crazy how different they can be. Just our experience.
