If the truck market didnt skyrocket in 2020 to where it is now, this would be a $50k truck with all the bells and whistles. I say this because in 2019 my roommate got a 2020 Taco TRD Pro out the door (Price, taxes, fees, registration) for just under $50k and he had almost every option available. That being said, i really hope this platform is more reliable and better off-road in comparison as the previous gen has a lot of features but never outperformed the competition, while also having more issues while off-roading.
I just purchased my first Nissan...a Titan Pro4x and like it thus far. A lot of truck for the money and zero percent financing. I hope it proves to be reliable
As a current 3rd gen trd pro owner congrats on the new rig! Despite the higher $ great choice if you can financially swing it 💪 Just like glocks, hks, bcms, great to have choices despite the haters. Badass truck brother 👊🇺🇸
Was really excited for this truck, been a dream to buy one. That was until I saw the price they want for it now. Just can’t justify spending that kind of money on a Tacoma no matter how much I like the truck.
It’s funny so many people complain about the switch from 6 to 4 cylinders and then the whole hybrid thing. But there is a reason these manufacturers move to on to these more modern hybrid options. I think we’re just stuck in this weird transition where insecure people are just scared to drive a half electric vehicle 😂. The truck is sick. I’d drive it any day over the previous models. I’ve never had anything more than 4 cylinders anyway.
I love the redesign. Only thing I can't get over is the "afterthought" look of the screen. I personally dislike the the "we stuck a tablet on your dash" look that Toyota is going with in the Tundra, Tacoma and new 4runner. Much prefer the integrated screen design like the Land Cruiser and other vehicles like the Ford SuperDuty (which I ended up with to replace my 2013 Tundra as I needed more payload). I like the new Tacoma front end and exterior styling much better than the upcoming 4runner. And like the new Sequoia front end much better than the new Tundra front end. We are happy to have found a used 2020 4Runner TRD Pro with next to no miles and snapped that up. While the tech and drivability are not as good as the new gen Tundra, Tacoma and upcoming 4runner, the exterior styling we like better than the styling of the new models and the simple and proven drivetrain helped make the decision as we keep our vehicles for 10+ years. In 10 years when it's time to replace the 2020 4runner, a used Land Cruiser might be the one. We like the exterior and interior styling and features of the 1958 trim. By then, the drivetrains will be better sorted and long term dependability will be known.
I love it Dude! Ignore the haters. after thinking about it, these new hybrids from Toyota are similar to turbo diesel torque kind of the best of both worlds I like it.
I have run fox on most of my vehicles since I started building things and I am a firm believer in their products and testing. I also didn’t want the extra overlandy things that come with the trail hunter like the snorkel, the ARB rack and I’m also not a huge fan of the color. Pro suits my needs better for a fast nimble truck for camping.
You talking about hybrid extra power is exactly why I want the hybrid. Looking forward to the power upgrade. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet on one. Mainly cause they are not many hybrids available right now near me.
It's a very nice truck. They will fix any issues. Every new vehicale has them. No big deal. With that said I sold my 2023 Tacoma and got a 2024 Bronco badlands. Way nice FOR ME.
I'm old school. all those features makes me afraid of them breaking down. Prefer mostly manual controls if possible. I dont know the durability of stuff like the power bed door. Those gauges also scare me when things go wrong. Too many people think of when everything goes right, but ignore when you have those electronics baking in the sun after a few summers of 110+ degrees. Like that bluetooth speaker. Will be a pain when that battery needs replacement. I declined the extra finance guy stuff. They forced me to buy the ceramic coating that they already put on the truck.
Thank you for the review, one of the better ones. Many of the reviews are sells personals and are very biased and poorly done. I have had 3 Tacoma's, 2018 Pro (I like it a lot) for now and have been looking at maybe getting a 2025 Pro. Have also been looking at the GMC Colorado, not sure which model, but one of the upper end ones. Not happy with any of the high prices on the midsize trucks this year. Anyway, keep up the views and take care.
Love to finally see a hybrid 4x4. Hybrids are the way to go IMO. Now we just need more options across manufacturers, and a high power hybrid sports car.
I’ve got the gas off-road right now. I’ll look into upgrading my Tacoma when they decide to put the Tundra’s new drivetrain in it. That’ll be something to admire for sure.
Great video. Two things I noticed: There is enough rear seat room for a dog or a very thin dwarf. And the average fuel economy is quite similar to the one I get in my 2004 4 liter V6 4Runner. Is all that complication worth it?
Love your new truck. I wanted one but it was taking forever to get one in Canada so I opted for a F150 Raptor instead and am happy with the choice. I wish Toyota did a better job on getting their product to market in time.I will be watching more of your videos though
Thanks man 🙏🏼 After doing crazy builds for a little while I just want to show that you don’t need to spend 50k+ in aftermarket parts just to get out camping and enjoy overlanding.
I have agree with what has already been said, people aren't hating on the truck as much as the price. 70k is a lot to spend on a truck, let alone a midsize. The Raptor is 10k less and is still a lot of money. The ZR2 is 20k less! I'm really looking forward to a shootout, now that these are finally in peoples hands. You used to be able to count on a higher resale with a Toyota truck, but with the major engine failure and recalls the Tundra has been experiencing, Toyota's rep has taken a beating. The reliability, and thus the resale values are yet unknown on this new generation. If you couple that with the massive price, it's a hard sale for most.
It’s time to for a new truck. I’m currently driving a 2nd Gen Toyota Tacoma TRD. I love my truck but I think it’s time to hand it off to my son and get a 4th Gen. Thanks for the info. Great video as always.
@blackfrog210 I dont know the factory specs, I added this amp based on the forums reviews. Can feel the bass now. It's plug and play, no extra wires to run, sits behind the stereo. Was worth it to me.
It does look great for real. I have a 2016 Off-Road, and my only complaint are the front seats. Hopefully this new Gen has a more comfy front seat comparatively.
I really like the new Taco. My wife is due for a new vehicle and we're considering either a Taco, Jeep, or Bronco. HAS to be a manual transmission and 4X4. So options are limited, but we're both Toyota fans.
Beautiful truck! Look forward to how it does off road and how the new engine and hybrid system holds up. Congrats, and lots of luck with it! BTW, that on board camera system is nuts
Don’t have this kinda money anymore, but I want one even more now ! I am currently driving a 2017 Tacoma Off-Road DC/LB. It's been a great truck, but I want to do an upgarde once I am able to.
I hope this truck really becomes a staple of reliability like the old Toyota’s. It’s the only other consideration I have aside from Ranger raptor, which can be had for $60k-$62k. Funny thing is I keep finding myself looking at 2020-2021 tundra platinums with the 5.7l v8 and low mileage…..around $45k-$50k right now. Keeping my eyes on the new stuff. Ole reliable will be there if needed.
Great vid. Love the look in OEM armor. Color is awesome. The rubs for me beside the price are those ISO seats and hybrid battery placement. You give up a lot of rear leg room with those ISO seats and losing those rear under the seat storage compartment is a bummer. I have them full of crap on my 14 TRD OR. I understand Toyota had no choice in this area due to battery placement. They are just a nice to have option.👍
@TalonSei I purchased a TRD Pro last week also. I can’t wait to watch you build this thing out. I don’t plan to do a whole lot to mine. But I’m sure I will see some of your mods and change my mind. Nice Truck! The underground looks almost blue in the sunlight. Great choice.
I’ve been watching lots of Tacoma videos to learn more about the probable trim levels and power trains on the upcoming 4Runner, which I’ll probably pick up sometime in 2025. The $10K CAD difference from TRD off-road to TRD Pro is too steep for me, so I’m looking at the TRD off road with the IForce Max engine. I believe the TRD off road will be the only trim level available with either engine.
The maintenance plan only gets you oil changes for a longer period. I was told that it covers dif fluid and transmission and so on and when the time came it did not cover it.
I drive a 24 Tundra Trd pro and i really, really like this truck, its a mini tundra, and its got subtle changes that i love over the tundra, for example the steering wheel changed the shiny media control buttons to matte ones
Great introductory video, thank you! I am waiting for my TRD Pro to come in, and I appreciate you will be covering this trim so I subscribed to your channel! Best to you and keep up the great content!
Things and stuff jellyfish launcher!! Love it!! so many new trucks regularly in the 60, 70, 80, 90k+ range being immensely saturated with tech, computer systems and sensors, why do so many still come with a generic and non specific check engine/service engine soon light? Most, if not all, have a computer/ touch screen dash mounted tablet. If a code reader scanning/ diagnostic tool can be purchased for $100, why not build the high $ vehicles with that already installed? How hard would it be for your 25 USB port, 12" touch screen, heated seats, deaf spot monitoring, lane sleep assist, banana car play vehicle to just tell you: "4th cylinder not firing, exhaust leak, replace battery, alternator replacement needed, vacuum leak etc?" We demand all this tech as consumers yet the generic non specific check engine light is something we're all still good with? We complain about mechanics and service departments ripping us off and playing the pin the tail on the donkey "let's see if this is the problem" game. How nice would it be to go to a mechanic and say, this is the problem I'm having and what needs to be fixed. How much is it to fix what I already know is the problem? Less downtime with the vehicle in the shop and less money spent on milking us repairs that aren't actually the problem. Ok, deep breath, I feel better now. Thanks for sharing Senor Talon. Always appreciate what you have to share.
What's the maintenance schedule, is it still every 5K? It surprise me that a hybrid only gets 18.x mpg, where is the extra miles that justified the expense and complexity of a hybrid?
Very nice truck indeed. But way too expensive. I ended up regearing my 2017 trd pro and added a supercharger and upgraded suspension and other things....i am hanging onto it for a long time. Nice video.
That's a nice truck! I'm sure it's fun to drive with that iForce Max power train. Still not worth it for that price though imo. If I was shopping for a used truck, I'd get the previous gen Tacoma TRD Pro. If looking for new, then a Frontier Pro 4x.
If you want less power and no turbo then go used 3rd gen. Nissan is just doing the same thing all the others are trying to do. Which is compete with Toyota. Which most don’t. Just give other non Tacoma options. Which I’m sure are great for people who need a Nissan or a Chevy midsize.
Took the words right out of my Mouth, Came to the comments section to just to say that. Literally the Rear seat in this thing is Pointless, You couldn’t even put a kids car seat back there without breaking there legs
I have about 850 miles on my 24 TRD Pro and cannot get more than 14.6 mpg and generally drive in ECO mode. I notice you are getting nearly 19 mpg. Wow!
I thought about getting these wheels for my 2024 tundra as well. You think these wouldn’t work offset wise? I have a stock limited without any lift/level and don’t really want a lot of wheel poke
They didn't want to have to do the engineering & spend the extra 💰... The price should include both.. i mean all 3 MORE room, badass seats & front+rear locker 🔒
Beautiful. NEVER buy the first in a heavy remodel. I have more faith in my V6 with the 6 speed trans. I NEED long term reliability. Anything new, is a gamble in that respect.
I bought a 99 Frontier with a manual transfer case in an LSD and a V6 just because everybody freaks out over Toyotas and I can practically drive down a hallway and in between houses with the thing
Biggest thing I just can't believe out of this whole truck is the lack of a front diff locker. Every single feature and off-road assist system given everywhere.. top of the line, best of the best.. SUSPENSION SEATS.. but no front locker? Someone in the meeting room should've spoke up "lockers before light bars, bro".

@@jbcope1000 is there not already a powerful factory installed Amp? Thanks
@blackfrog210 I dont know the factory specs, I added this amp based on the forums reviews. Can feel the bass now. It's plug and play, no extra wires to run, sits behind the stereo. Was worth it to me.
Great breakdown in the most reasonable time. Your timing is perfect
Does it have heated side mirrors?
Beautiful truck! Look forward to how it does off road and how the new engine and hybrid system holds up. Congrats, and lots of luck with it! BTW, that on board camera system is nuts
The stance of your truck is PERFECT))))
I will always love my 3rd gen.. but this truck goes hard 💪💪😤 looking forward to more content ! Thank you Sei 🫡
Great choice.
cant decide between the pro and the trailhunter. would be so awsome for u to do a comparison
If I can find someone with a trail hunter I will make that happen
Congrats! The Iforce Max is top tier. The Trailhunter was a better fit for me, but man the Pro is beautiful.
Why are there no tow hooks on the front of the truck? Its the same with the Tundra and its very frustrating!
Does the engine keep shutting off when off roading on the trails?
Nope, I thought the hybrid might be weird in that aspect but it hasn’t been at all. You can check out the most recent video for some trail driving
Paid 33 for my 2020 TRD OR w/tech pack new in April 2020. Going to run it till the wheels fall off.
If you swap bumpers will that take out the lane assist system. I have a 23 and upgraded to steel bumpers but lost my lane assist.
It will depend on the bumper. I did the C4 lopro on my tundra and it keeps all the normal functionality
So...how much for the maintenance plan?
How tall are you? and how do you feel in the driver seat ?
Talon, I would appreciate a demo of the camera's on trail. That seems to be really helpful for trail riding. Thanks.
I went with a ZR2 with a 3.0 diesel getting 28 miles a gallon when you drive it right but I still wish I had kept my Tacoma it was a 2019 TrD pro
Dang, life is good! Tundra and the Tacoma in one year! Well done, my man! Love the color on the Taco, BTW. Will pair well with Talon orange!
The maintenance plan only gets you oil changes for a longer period. I was told that it covers dif fluid and transmission and so on and when the time came it did not cover it.
Sounds like your dealer is pulling a fast one on you.
Are you going to add a Garmin PowerSwitch to this truck? Would love to see the install on that with the new hybrid system.
I probably won’t need to because of the aux ports I mentioned. When I do a winch I’ll have to tap into that system tho so stay tuned 🫡
Beautiful truck….and really appreciate all the detail you went thru! I’m gonna subscribe to your channel and look forward to future vids!
Cheers!
Welcome to the channel!
Looks like the hole/odd compartment at the driver's side door is for holding keys...check the accessories for the truck at Toyota.
I'm considering the 4Runner Trailhunter. Looking forward to this series.
I drive a 24 Tundra Trd pro and i really, really like this truck, its a mini tundra, and its got subtle changes that i love over the tundra, for example the steering wheel changed the shiny media control buttons to matte ones
The amount of vehicles this guy has bought since I first saw his crosstrek review is insane.
Great introductory video, thank you! I am waiting for my TRD Pro to come in, and I appreciate you will be covering this trim so I subscribed to your channel! Best to you and keep up the great content!
Welcome to the channel 🤝🏼
Great looking truck!!. Keep us posted on it!! Question....where you looking at the raptor ranger too? Or was your mind, heart set on this vehicle?
What's the maintenance schedule, is it still every 5K?
It surprise me that a hybrid only gets 18.x mpg, where is the extra miles that justified the expense and complexity of a hybrid?
That’s from driving off road. Now at 600 miles I’m getting 22-24
@@TalonSei Does the 2024 require premium gas (91 octane or higher)?
Excited to follow this build & have your honest opinion & thoughts! 😃
There is like 0 space on that back seat. Why not delete them?
Took the words right out of my Mouth, Came to the comments section to just to say that. Literally the Rear seat in this thing is Pointless, You couldn’t even put a kids car seat back there without breaking there legs
Nice truck, but I would have thought mpg would be better. I’ve had better with the V6 in a my Tacoma and Frontier.
This was a read out of driving around town and then a trip up to a mountain. I’ve been averaging 22-24 now
I have about 850 miles on my 24 TRD Pro and cannot get more than 14.6 mpg and generally drive in ECO mode. I notice you are getting nearly 19 mpg. Wow!
I have one I just got delivered last week and I have problems with the front seats already. They make too much noise 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I thought about getting these wheels for my 2024 tundra as well. You think these wouldn’t work offset wise? I have a stock limited without any lift/level and don’t really want a lot of wheel poke
I don’t think they would poke at all but I’m not 100% sure on the offset between the 2 trucks
@@TalonSei you should mount them on the tundra and lemme see 👀👀
Finally. Straightforward, informative, concise, no loud background music. Just information. Cheers mate.
They could have ditched those dumb seats and gave you a front locker.
Right. I’d go for the Ranger Raptor with normal seats, front locker, full time 4WD, and pocket about $8,000
Pocket about $8k? Jeeeeze! I’ve got to hurry and hear this price. 😬
And proper back-seat space.
They didn't want to have to do the engineering & spend the extra 💰... The price should include both.. i mean all 3 MORE room, badass seats & front+rear locker 🔒
Do you still have the Third Gen or did you sell that?
Sold it the other month to fund this one
Good looking truck. The only thing that keeps me from being an owner is they’re basically a two seat vehicle cause no adult human is sitting comfortably in the back
The lower trims without the isodynamic seats have a lot more room. More than the previous gen actually.
@@TalonSeiyeah I just don’t really care for the other trims. More of a TRD Pro guy, lol
The trailhunter is seriously tempting for me.
tell me with a straight face you would rather have this than a 3rd gen manual trd pro
