I am usually very spot on with cooking rice. But I have all of my pots except a small one packed up and tried to use it to cook some white rice. Well...didn't work out. Now I know to be much more mindful of the size of the pot!

Omg you solve a mystery that I had. If I put rice on and take quick shower rice comes out perfect but if I stay it's always under cook and it's because I was constantly opening the lid to stir. This was letting all the heat escape from the pot so the rice never got enough heat to cook.

Debbie from dung a yaard a mi fi tell yuh.... I am a Jamaican caterer in the UK and cook those massive pots of rice frequently and it does sometimes happen. I tend to use cling film and if I have no alternative and need to use the aluminium foil I fix it just like you did the bag and pour the water on top of it.

Yes, it has happened to me. I will expand. I have a theory from maanin that goes: Rice expands horizontally, not vertically. So, like Deb see, the size of pot is important, BUT u must also remember that the width of the pot is more important than the height. Eg:No matter how tall the pot,if it's narrow, ur rice will be squash up. It needs decent width to expand. Especially if u use long grain/very long grain basmati rice. Jessie width is perfect for aforementioned rice. Just my two cents. Hope u don't mind, Auntie

Awe Ms Debbie... I'm 69yrs and me and rice gets NO WHERE! lol. I'm trying to understand why u keep the pot on low if rice is already burn? Doesn't the taste and smell of burn get in the rice? Another thing, I usually cook everything well except D RICE!!, so I found out how to cook it in the microwave! No more burned pots!! Thx LOVE UR COOKING!!

To get rid of the burn smell, my family always cuts half an onion and sit it in the rice while it’s still warm and it will absorb the burn smell and taste.

Great idea ! I hope that we realizing that ms Debbie is on a tight budget , I just joined her on her journey and base on what she has shared I can see that it is not easy on her. Everything cost money . I heard she mention that she needs a little table to do he paper work , so I looked at Courts Jamaica , a little Cp. Desk for $150.C$ Dollars. I see them here for $ 75.00 C$ or less. These desks people throw out all the time here in canada in good condition. In Jamaica life is still rough and tough for some of our sisters and brothers, we all need to give a helping hand if and when we can. Especially to ms. Debbie who does so much work from her heart to us. I intend to do the same. God bless you all. I just wanted to share my thoughts.

Hello there, Ms Debs. Pastarawl a whole heap a foolishness and stupidness. My grandma use to put a peg or 2 of Garlic clove Directly in the middle of the Burnt rice to absorb the Smell and Taste; Sometime, she set the pot a rice in a puddingpan a Wata too. How you do this Correction a de Original way. Nuff, nuff Respec to you, Cameragirl and the rest of the family. Love the shoutout, always.
