  • The weather in Saudi Arabia is cooling off for the year, so last weekend we did something crazy to help upgrade our camping setup. I drove from Jeddah to Kuwait, all the way across Saudi Arabia to get a new #alucab #rooftoptent from UR Offroad. Ashley joined me part way through, and we spend out first night in the Alu-Cab Gen 3-R Tent on our way home. It's incredible, and in this video we'll walk you through the tent and the changes on the Gen 3-R vs. Gen 3.1 vs Gen 3 tents, show off our Alu-Cab 270 degree awning and our new under the roof rack table from Front Runner.
We're excited to be kicking off the winter camping season in style, so be sure to subscribe to see all of the things we've got in store for this year!

We’re Eric and Ashley, an American couple who has spent the last 7 years living and working in Saudi Arabia. We’ve traveled a TON in the time we’ve been here, and we've decided to finally do some real exploring in the country we’re fortunate enough to call home for now.
As Saudi Arabia is finally opening up for tourism, we’re taking the chance to experience both the famous and off-the-beaten path the Kingdom has to offer. Our goal is to show you the uniqueness of the country and inspire you to set out on your own adventures - whether in remote corners of the world or just down the road from your home.

Great video guys! Congrats on your new tent, may you have many more adventures. I know your time was short in my home country of kuwait but I hope you enjoyed it.
I have a question, I just got an fj and am looking to purchase roof top tent. I’m considering the iKamper mini (#1 choice among Kuwaiti campers). However it costs a hefty 1200kd. Have you compared your tent to other tents and how much did it cost you? Also where did you get your roof rack and table from? Thank you
Anyways great content and I will definitely be visiting some of the place you’re going to in Saudi
    ❤❤

The price of the high end roof top tents is a serious investment and the iKampers and AluCabs are similar in price. The iKampers are great and we've got several friends with them, but we love the even faster set-up closure of the AluCab, the fact that you can leave your bed completely made, and personally I think the clamshell is even better in the wind, too. The iKamper mini might leave you with more room on your roof rack, or with the big ikamper you could have a king size bed :) Ultimately, though it's a personal decision on what's right for you. I know Quickpitch and Ironman are now in the region, and Wild Land looks like a slightly more affordable hardshell option, but I haven't looked into the quality. We LOVE ours though and if you plan on camping regularly it's totally worth it! I think we've only not camped one weekend since we bought it :)

Great combo. Is the awning length the 2.6m or 2m model?

It’s the 2.6m - it’s a bit longer than the tent both at the front and back, but the extra shade is so nice in the desert!

Why all the way to Kuwait for the tent? How much the difference in price? Is it so much cover all the hassle and costs?

    • @EricAndAsh

There isn’t an Alu-cab dealer currently in Saudi Arabia (4wheelstation doesn’t carry them anymore), so our options were Kuwait or Dubai to get the tent we wanted. It was worth it for us, since it meant we got exactly what we wanted.

Sorry you thought so. It was our first impression on the tent. Now we've had it 18 months and have loved it. Anything in particular you'd like to know?
