      We're in a unique situation because the housing is rented directly through KAUST, the university where we work, and it's only available to university employees. We're not sure what the local rate for rents (or purchasing) would be outside of the university.It definitely gets hot in the summers, but everything is really well air conditioned :)

    • @EricAndAsh
      @EricAndAsh 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I had two bodies - I used my 70-200 most of the time and also carried a 24-70. I really loved the zoomed in detailed shots of the dunes, patterns of the riverbeds, and the deeper shadows that were quite abstract as the sun began to set. The 70-200 was great for that and still provided pretty decent width for broader shots. The 24-70 was okay, but its a big rather empty landscape, so the wider angle often left the landscape looking flat and had a much higher chance of helicopter rotors in the image. I took a quick look at the metadata from the photos I kept and about 10% were at 24-30mm, 30% were taken at 70mm (but I took them with the 70-200), the rest were above 70mm taken with the 70-200. In another location it might be different, but if I only had one body I'd personally take a 70-200 again. You'll be moving fast, so make sure you have a high shutter speed :) We had a bright day, and I shot at around 1/2000-1/2500 as long as the light allowed. Enjoy! It's an incredible experience!

      @@EricAndAsh if you ever do come to Kruger, one thing to keep in mind is that the southern part has the reputation for more game, and hence is far more crowded with people, to the point where some sitings can be a traffic jam. The further north in Kruger, the fewer people, which I prefer, and supposedly less game- although i have seen plenty up north. I personally avoid Skukuza and even Lower-Sabie rest camps for this reason- too many people. I hope this is helpful🙂

    Here is some scientific data on the site. The entire dendritic valley has suffered from flash flooding for thousands of years; thus, erosion is all over the valley. Glacial melt during the Stone Age caused erosion also. There are examples of large rocks being "Frost Split" all over the world by water freezing an expanding over centuries. So, it could go either way. I could be the actual site from actual events, or it could be a geological formation that inspired the tale. Perhaps even somewhere in between. Either way it does not take away from its beauty, mystique, its wonder. If people believe this is evidence of their faith, I am happy for them.

    How much does it cost typically for a home like this??

    • @EricAndAsh
      @EricAndAsh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We're in a unique situation because the housing is rented directly through the university where we work, and it's only available to university employees. My understanding is that there is a sliding scale for housing rates to make sure no one is paying over a certain % of their salary on housing. If you're looking to work at KAUST the HR and onboarding teams would be able to give you more information about how much it would cost for you, but I think our rent is very reasonable, plus it includes electricity, water, gas, internet, etc. and is fairly well furnished if you choose to keep the furniture they provide. We're not sure what the local rate for rents would be outside of the university.

      The trees were amazing - we'd seen a few before, but the entire island was covered in them! We wish we would have had another day or so to explore, but unfortunately it was just a quick stopover on the way to our next location. Thanks for watching!

      We both work for KAUST - a university here in Saudi - and most KAUST employees live on campus like we do. We're not so sure about outside of KAUST, but this is one of several neighborhoods in our community. Each are a bit different, but nice.

    That's in Saudi Arabia. I saw a video that was saying that the Saudi Prince or government wants to build a new city around that area and archeologists are worried it may invade what they belive may be the "real" Mount Saini. Well, according to them.
