One of the best reviews I've ever seen. So on point without wasting any minute you're answering any possible question , someone who needs those tools to save us time, could have. In fact it answered everything I couldn't find in the shiny vids fron Softube and Uaudio. Thanks Matty, great job, will order it right now
@@psysword Ahhh, I have to admit: I ordered the C3 and went on a long journey into the sun emerging the shitty weather of my hometown. So while I'm here in Thailand the device waits patiently in Hamburg for me to come back and check it out...
Thanks for the video. After spending most of the year with my MkII I see this as a very worthy upgrade. I can’t wait for my preorder to ship. I’ve used the trial of Core Mixing Suite with my MkII since it was released, and it is great to be able to use the new functionality, without hardware control. Hasn’t bothered me too much. But I will welcome being able to do everything right from the hardware!
I have the MKII, great that we have the software update also. The amount of parameter control there is with the software without changing or popping up screens is amazing.
This looks like a great controller. The only downside is the SSL channel strip is not available on the Mark 3 unit which was included on the previous versions.
Great review, as always! I think it would've been nice if they had added the option to choose one of the purchaseable channelstrips of choice to the deal. 995€ is quite the price tag and twice as expensive as the MK2. I like that the channel-selection-buttons have little colored LEDs and the other upgrades.
the demo of the core mixing suite was so good I had to buy it for my mk2. I have to say it sounds amazing but the panner section seems to sound way better thru speakers. I wonder if they plan on adding a binaural algorithm to use for video game or ar mixing for headphones eventually. Once they do I'll be buying whatever extension that is. I love my console 1 so 100% buying the new one in a month or two
@@Noisa , I was using a Behringer XTouch with Console One MKII and it died, so I decided to try the SSL UF8 and really enjoyed it, but after I also rebuilt my desk and setup last year I struggled to fit both C1 and the UF8, so decided to try the UF1 and loved that too. The knob accuracy was much better than C1, and personally I thought the SSL channel strip sounded better and of course it fit better on my desk with the UF8. So I completely switched over now, and also bought the SSL UC1.
@@Truth565 ah okay, I can understand that. Thanks for the quick info. Just grabbed a used (but still new looking in packaging) c1 mk2 for $250 and digging the modularity and workflow. Curious if in the next year or two I'll go with the uc1 or the mk3.
Hey thanks for a good review! Do you know its possible to only duck low frequencies from a sidechain source, with the dual dynamics? Or some other way?
Great overview, thanks for making this Matty! The SSL UC1 duplicated the console experience and had a screen telling you the track # etc. this helped them dominate the controller market that Softube C1 made popular. Softube didn’t take it lying down… the features and workflow of this iteration are remarkable. They added the ability to mix with just the controller via built in screens but with they thought of everything I was missing with the multiple EQ’s/compressors, the innovative depth panning, the multiband compressor in the shape section… MUCH fuller utility than the UC1 now. I just wish they would dabble in sampling tech instead of “modeling” for at least the preamps & drive to get a 3D soundstage & life-like, non-digital harmonics. Until then I’ll keep putting an Acustica pre at the end of the signal chain. *If Acustica style sampling was used this piece would be ubiquitous. Nothing could touch it.
SSL still have their E strip to release but I think I’ll go back to Softube anyway. The SSL stuff is great but I prefer to use a larger variety than just the SSL strip.
I might have missed it or I’m just stupid.. now we have 2 EQ and 2 compressors can they be used in serial or is it one or the other within the core suite?
Hey @mixedbymatty Do your buttons feel like the ones on the mkii? On mine, the track selectors at top do but all the rest feel like they have resistance to push or are really "tight" to push. Do yours feel like that as well? I'm trying to see if this is normal or a manufacturing defect. Thanks!
Can I use some of my own plugins by default? Is it the favorite function? If so does it load immediately without pushing knobs? And can I select the plugins per channel?
My question is, do you hear a difference sonically compared to the MKII ? I am not going to buy this just for the look and a few different features. I don't think this is worth double the price if your mixes sound the same using either version.
Actually there is a difference - it doesn't shift phase in the lows like it was in mk1 and mk2 so you gain a bit of headroom. Also core mixing suite drive doesn't have any problems with aliasing - great improvement there as well
@@mixedbymatty Dear Matty, I got it C1 mk3 3 days ago. The transition is not a piece of cake, but it's worth it. It works with fader like you said. No daisy chaining though (maybe soon we'll see fader mk2). Hope to see any tricks or hints from you. It would be an insight. You rule, sir!
@@michaeljarzy2837 I also had problems with transition to mk3. Hickups during updateing, plenty of bugs with Samplitude and 2 of the knobs missbehave. Do your Send/Volume buttons have a dedicated "klick" as all the others? I'm afraid I got a defective unit ...
Btw I use 2 fader units and I belive they produced some of the hickups ... it got stable after disconnecting them, updating everything and only start the on screen program after boot time, not during it. Now it works but it was a pain and took WAY longer as it should.
@@ThefabulousJF No idea if they are defective. Send/volume work differently (no click) from e.g. drive or filter (click). I will write to Softube to ask them. Also knobs react on "touch". If I accidentally touch two knobs, they go crazy. If you double "click" a knob it goes back to "centre" position. I thought my unit was defective because there were scratches on left screen. (lol, plastic covers so fitted and tight I didn't notice them). The overall impression is fantastic. Not only I forget about mouse but also screen. On the other hand I want to know what I should get for 1000 euro. What standards we are supposed to get. Time to attack guys from support.
Still waiting for somebody to crack a controller that will interface easily with any 3rd party plugins. I don't use Fab Filter or much UAD so it seems that if you want to go the Softube Console route you've got to jump ship into their eco system and abandon thousands of pounds of great collected plugins. Or dont bother with a controlle, live with the mouse and have everything. 🤔

It’s a great update. Softube did a great job on this. Shame I had to move on to the SSL controllers.
Same
Why'd you have to?

Hi the console mk3 goes into sleep mode after a few minutes. Can I set that or turn it off? It does not happen when I use my daw.

Why are the screens so small?... There is plent of space to make them bigger. I guess that's reserved for the MK4?...
Can the core planner work with the mk2? I haven’t upgraded yet 😢😂😂
Can you change the slope of the filters in mk2?
Work with UAD native plugins?
Not as of yet. I'm hopeful it will at some point

No. It only works with softube and uad plugins.
That said, I have seen people on TH-cam hack a midi learn solution with other plugins.

10:30 I'm so sick of their shit. Of course Pro Tools is the exception. Get over yourself, Avid. Geez. I'm hanging on by a thread after 15 years.
Same with Reason 12 which is still the most underrated DAW...btw same with Console FADER 1...
It would be nice if you use the nice camera for the hardware, not your face!
Thanks for the positive feedback!!
Does it have DSP so that it saves CPU? Or does it only function as a controller?
