  • Using an HVLP spray system is a great way to apply finishes, such as paint or polyurethane. Learn the basics of how to use an HVLP sprayer. The letters HVLP stands for high volume low pressure. HVLP systems consist of a spray gun, a turbine, and a hose.

Don't forget to relieve the pressure in the cup before taking the gun apart for cleaning. I learned the hard way 😂

Oh so true. Me too. Paint gets into parts it shouldn't and makes it much much harder to clean (plus got on my coffee table)

The most important step in HVLP prep is to run the material through a velocity cup. You always want a benchmark velocity reading.

For anyone who sprays water based/latex you should still run laq thinner through to get all the water out of your spray system!!

Are there any parts it can damage? What about when using 3M PPS? Lacquer thinner can trash a lot of stuff. I've found out the hard way.

you need a spray booth, mine cost 5 grand, about 15 years ago, and my powerful exhaust fan keeps all over spray away, an i have been doing furniture restoration full time in my shop for the last 40 years.......my dads cabinet shop had a home made spray booth which was, ok, but when i got the pro booth, wow, what a difference in the finishes i put on

Right, so people who are into woodworking as a hobby should throw down $5k for a spray booth that they will use maybe 3 or 4 times a year (at most)? Not going to happen. I improvise and do just fine. I just painted my motorcycle, full on from two different primers all the way through to color and clear coat, with the Q5 Platinum Fuji Sprayer and it turned out freaking perfect. I made a make shift spray booth out of plastic painters sheets. I taped them to my garage door rails and made a little enclosed booth with them. Lots more sanding involved but it worked out great.

I have been looking for a video similar to this but wish you could show more detail in the set up adjustments for fine tuning your spray. Also maybe with a lacquer based paint and how far you can thin it down.

That is an awesome mask what is it? I use a 3M mask with a downward airflow for my exhale I like my mask a lot but that one in the video has less of an obstruction on its sides.

That's a Miller LPR-100 half mask, the filters are kinda pricey but they're awesome!

Hi. Im going start paint cabinet and utility trailers. Does the Fuji Q4 Gold work for what I want? Im look the Q5 platinum its the top of the line of Fuji system but one person offer me one used but in like new conditions one Q4 Gold complete system with the same soray gun you show in the video for $465 included gun kit plus flex extencion plus remote. Want to know if for whats I want do the Q4 Gold work and if the $465 for this Fuji Q4 Gold its ok
    Thanks

Not sure what you ended up getting but I have the Q5 and am happy with the performance. However, even the most powerful Q5 struggles to spray anything with any viscosity so I would definitely get the Q5 if you plan on trying to spray water based paints.

3:26 nope, that's not "about it". I have that gun. You have to take out the next part that you can see there including the plastic washers and also the needle (and then struggle to get something down into the gun because paint is going to accumulate in the heart of the gun behind that part he didn't take out). Don't forget to clean out the cup and all that entails (throw some solvent in the cup, swoosh it around and spray it out...do that around 4 times and you can proceed to cleaning the rest of the gun). Then there is also the pressure line that needs to be replaced and make sure to clean out the little pressure port at the top of the cup. Also, paint is going to get into every nook and cranny of that gun so really the biggest draw back to these systems is the clean up. It's a pain no matter how you slice it. After running 4 or 5 shots of solvent through the gun what I do is put all those little parts in a cup of solvent, let it sit for a bit, then get out the tiny brush kit or a toothbrush and go to town on all the little holes on the various parts. Like he said though, you MUST clean it thoroughly right after you use it. It can't wait or you will have a huge problem on your hands. Water based stuff is the easiest to clean because you have plenty of water available and you can put it anywhere, however, these systems do not spray water based paints very well unless you get the higher end units with plenty of power. Usually you will find yourself cleaning your gun with acetone or similar solvents and it's a big pain in the you know what. I actually think it's debatable if it is worth getting the system out to just paint a small project (I don't). If you are going to paint an entire kitchen worth of cabinets it makes sense.

Always take the needle out first before you remove the seat the needle will last longer this way.

It really should be called "a sales pitch for Fuji".
High level overview of little help to me. For example, the video said that you will need to thin your paint with water, giving no guidance what so ever for this critical step. You'd expect some explanation of how to set the gun for spraying. Disappointing.

Please explain where he promotes Fuji over other brands. Yes, he happens to be using one and mentions the company once. But at no point does he promote it over other brands.

    • @ILruffian

@@chrispollard100 My Q5 just failed. They are fixing it under warranty, but Fuji threatened me that they will not warranty it again due to environmental/overspray issues. Total nonsense. I had the turbine as far away as possible (at the max length of the hose). More importantly, I had an exhaust fan 3' from the work, pulling the overspray outside. May have to make a video showing the setup and telling people to buy Apollo.

Absolutely told you nothing about using, setting up a spray gun, just told how much fun it could be, typical American mumbo jumbo, spent more time telling you about all the other things they have, this showed nothing
