Brilliant recipe! Thank you for sharing these techniques and secrets! Not the first time I've heard that goose or duck fat makes potatoes taste amazing. Keep 'em coming, Chef!
Thank you very much.
What about ghee? I don't have any duck or goose fat.
I have heard that ghee produces excellent results and one of my favorite Indian recipes is for small-dice potatoes rinsed, drained, and patted dry fried in ghee with just a tiny bit of turmeric and salt. Heaven.@@delinquense
Have you tried goose fat to make your roast potatoes…pure heaven. And if there is any left overs, it makes the bubble and squeak amazing too! My family fights over the crispy bits, so I now make patties and fry them up so everyone gets the crispy bits that taste so much better because of the goose fat. Duck fat works well too, out goose fat is so much better.
My father made potato pancakes, just like this only he graded the potatoes by hand. It was very nostalgic,,thank you.
I've been searching for a recipe for potato pancakes like my mom used to make. After watching your video I think I've found them. All she ever told me was they were German potato pancakes and I remembered that she put them in the blender. Yours look exactly like what I remember and I can't wait to make these. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful!
I had a boyfriend that liked me to make these for him. I used my grater and finely grated the potatoes and onions by hand. I'm sure I had sone scraped hamds/fingers in there as we'll! Way back 45 yrs ago, I'm pretty sure we couldn't buy duck fat in the grocery store. Lol they were very good!
WONDERFUL!! Goose fat like Lard is the "OLD WORLD" Secret ingredient. My grandmother's cookbook always showed to use LARD. We could never figure out why things did taste like they did when she cooked. Until that one day, I READ the little note to that side of one for the recipes. "DO NOT SUBSATUTE ANYTHING FOR LARD." So, Off to the store I went, bought some lard and tried it. THE MISSING LINK! That is what I was doing wrong. Bottom Line - Don't change what works! FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! (and read the notes on the side of the page).
Thanks 😊
We always used bacon fat to fry or lard if enough bacon fat wasnt saved. Also, no blender! grate and squeeze the moisture out. Then egg and flour and fry.
My mother made "Kartoffel Puffer" many years ago when we were still in Germany.
She died in 2000, but I kept her recipe in my head. Your's is similar.
They are great with "Apfelmus".
Tschüss aus New Mexico.
Thanks 😊
I use basically same ingredients that you do.. 😊 My mother and grandmother made these and they were German..
My trick for keeping the potatoes from getting brown is after grating pour over them cold water then I let them set while grating onions..
It Helps take out some of the starch also.. just drain and press out the water.. Then add other ingredients..
I have gotten creative and added carrots and squash grated also..
But Nothing Is Better Than A Simple Potato Cake!. 😋
PS I use bacon grease when I have it or avocado oil.. 👍
Thank you so much, Since my dad passed away a few years ago the recipe he used he took with him and now Thanks to you I have it back again.
@@jdrhea6712 Everything is better with bacon! 😁 Forty years ago, my dad did it that way as well!
Bacon grease rules and is the best.
Can’t get goosefat in AZ
We use Woll pans with the Diamond lite PTFE and avocado or grapeseed oil
I e never had these, BUT you can be sure I’m going to prepare some for my family TOMORROW MORNING! Thank you for a GREAT video an AWESOME recipe!!❤❤❤
Thank you for the marvelous recipe!!
They sure look good to me. I gonna try some..... THANKS.................................
Nice. But you want potatoes with high starch content, like russet that ultimately gives you the starch that provides the crispness that makes them so much better. Along with the cooking fat that you mentioned.
suggestion; friy them fresh at the farmer's market
Thank you for sharing. looks very tasty.
Just Like Oma made , but then went to all only shredded. Yummy!

So nice of you🙂
Just love your recipe for potatoe pancakes. Our german family loved them, but my mother's were more mushy looking than yours (she used the blenderized potatoes only, without adding grated ones) and hers were more grey than yours.... probably she never added lemon juice like you.
Yours look so good that I have to try them!
Thank you very much 😊

Hello , why so many recipes have you draining the potato starch out using cloth or mesh strainer ? Does this method with the blender work by absorbing up the potato starch water ? I love this method better. It's like a potato batter adding some shredded later 1st time seeing them made this way and i am old 😅 @@grandmasgermankitchen7850
Thank you so much for sharing your delightful recipe! I have been searching for the perfect potato cake recipe for years! I went to a Glindy (sp?) festival years ago and ate the most amazing potato cake. I've tried dozens of recipes but nothing came close. This might just be my recipe. ❤

I've been making my version of potato pancakes for years, and recently I've thought about using my Ninja blender to change the texture, so it was fantastic to see a professional doing just that!

I like your accent German English! God bless you!
Thank you! 😃
Thank you for sharing. These look amazingly delicious. Does the lemon juice make it the potato batter sour?
No
I found this fascinating. We visit Germany every few years and I always enjoyed the potato pancakes, as does my husband. I am going to surprise him and try to make them at home using your recipe. May I ask, please, as your recipe is far bigger than we could eat in a day or two, can these potato pancakes be frozen once they are cooked or even partially cooked as you did some for reheating the following day, since the frozen ones need to be thawed before warming through.
These look delicious! Potatoes and onions are one of the best flavour combos in my opinion. Thank you for sharing and I have just subscribed to see what else you will teach. ❤️🙏🏴
Yes you can freeze them
Thank you! @@grandmasgermankitchen7850

Fantastic. Seems very close to my Grandma's way of making them
Thanks

👌
They look delicious brother. I had a semester of college German, and 3 1/2 years high school German. My German teacher in high school was from Germany, and she made potato pancakes like you have done. They were amazing! Thank you for the fond memories of my youth. This was in 1977 to 1981. Love ya Ms Goss!
That's awesome
Thank you , danke fuer Das video, ich bin von Duelmen Germany 🇩🇪 aber wohne in Texas und ich werde deine Reibekuchen versuchen,,,❤❤
Thanks
I like the nuttyness of lard imparts on spuds not much on goose fat or duck or chicken but I have tried it in the past whale blubber rendered down is also very good yes Norway but hard to get and very expensive.
The best thing to go with German potato cakes is apple sauce ! Might sound odd, but that's the way Germans eat them. Try it out
That is write
Thanks 🙂
Nice lady
*Bitte!! Wo bekomme ich den richtigen Aufsatz für den Mixer „Kitchen Aid“? Bitte? Ich habe diesen Mixer, aber ohne Aufsatz.
I got it from Macy's
Those look just like my mom's. I will try using the blender instead of grating by hand... we've always made the potato pulp by hand so these were a lot of work and a special treat. Thank you for your video. Definitely going to try the goose fat!
Thanks 😊
Thanks 😊
I noticed that you use the Great Value Sunflower oil, so I looked at Walmart for the goose fat. I did not find that, but I did find duck fat. Will that work as well? I would come to The Villages but I live too far away. I make hashbrowns similar to your pancakes, but I do not use a blender.
Have good days!
It will work 🙂
Thank you for sharing the recipe and method! This totally changed the way I make potato pancakes.
You very welcome
Nice
Thanks
How would you reheat the pancakes?
Looks great!!! I'll have to try it. Hello from Cajun Country Louisiana, USA
Thank you 😊
We use a bit of bacon fat in the frying oil.
👍
Goose fat RULES!!
It's a little different than my mom used to make she used to squeeze out all the water you look pretty good though and I have no idea where I would get goose fat in Las Vegas
Always helpful info and tips. Ty. Love your video
Thanks for watching!
Made a small batch following your recipe except put everything in a food processor. Not sure if grandma would approve but was very happy with the result. Thanks for sharing!
