    Exactly the way my mother made them throughout my childhood. She always served them with homemade applesauce & sour cream….So good! 😋

    Very similar to how I make these. My main problem is that when I'm done cooking, there aren't any pancakes. I tend to eat them as fast as I cook them.

      sally martegani hello from Saskatchewan Canada 🇨🇦. These are just like my Oma used to make. She would grate the potatoes and onion because we had no food processor. They were so good. Plus they were just as good cold the next day! After we put on our desired toppings we would roll them up like a crepe. Oh I can taste them now! It’s -40c today. So cold. Thank you so much for your videos.

    I have got to try this week. When I buy potatoes by the sack there are always leftovers that otherwise will go bad. Same for the onions. This way I could make the pancakes and freeze them for other meals. Thanks for the recipe, you are a great teacher. Love your humor.

    my mom was from the old country Austria and she made the most delicious potato pancakes it was hard work rubbing all the pancakes on a great and squeezing out the liquid by the time she put it all together Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo she topped it with sour cream and sugar and that was a meal in itself thank you Santa Baby

    These are the best. My mom did the same recipe by hand and always ended up with scraped knuckles.
    I did the same until I used my processor. Wonderful! I add some garlic and some baking powder (2tsp)
    My kids would eats these every chance they get but not too good on calories!

    These look good; I’ll try a batch. I think I would still like the grated potato more than the processed type . I do love a good fried potato latke.

    • @lennybuttz2162
      @lennybuttz2162 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure the grated potato is the way to go. I like the texture more. My grandma would fry them in bacon grease, maybe not the best idea but they sure did taste good.

    Never heard of a potato pancake by pulverizing the potatoes. I’m going to have to try this technique. Looks so good I can practically smell it already!

    • @nimrodquimbus912
      @nimrodquimbus912 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking the same thing, Pulverizing it is way easier than shredding.

    • @lennybuttz2162
      @lennybuttz2162 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't like them ground up like that, it's too much like a regular pancake. I like the texture of a grated potato and the crispy edges.

  • @230608grace
    @230608grace 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When I think of the times my mom would make these by hand grating on the fine grating side and she would have sore scraped knuckles for a few days.
    Then came the processor! As you say, what a fast meal. Would not do them any other way.
    I use baking potatoes or russet potatoes for more starch content. New potatoes doesn't work well.
    I also add garlic. Seeing these right now I want a plate with nothing else. Yum!

    • @lennybuttz2162
      @lennybuttz2162 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it depends on your heritage, what kind of topping you use. I think the sour cream is more of a latke topping, potato pancakes and latkes are almost the same thing. I like em with apple sauce. Some people use maple syrup. I like the shredded potatoes, I like the texture.

    When I was taught from Czech background and then we would have a breakfast meat and some times scrambled eggs then we put on a maple syrup that was made in the kitchen so it would be warm too! Oh the good old days I wish my family was around and then we could eat my moms (so I didn’t have to cook!) I never had it with sauerkraut but it sure sounds good to me. My folks were born in the early 20’s during the depression and my dads family was city people but my Czech side just loves this-it’s close to Poland. My and my family just loves sour cabbage and big fluffy dumplings. If you haven’t heard of them then let me know and if you have I’d love to see how you make them. Believe this or not but its true. I honestly did a head count of all 6 of my children as we left Summer Bible School it’s about 40-45 minutes from my house and we farmed and my husband also worked for a logger on the farm next door. There was only one serving left and he threatened to eat if he was home first. So I guess I didn’t hear my daughter get out even though the kids but all kept quiet and then I get home and my husband had beaten me home. As I get out of my car he asked me if I forgot anything and all I was thinking about was that cabbage and then he asked if I brought all the kids home and I was so disgusted about that question and we were having a disgusting conversation on my side and a smiling one from him so I went to prove as I’d done a head count and I was missing a child (I should have known it was too quiet on the way home). She ended up staying with her Uncle- my closest brother and played with her cousins. I was soo. embarrassed he’s never “forgotten” it and the other children tried to be left with their cousins too but that was Never repeated even for sour cabbage and dumplings... I would hide them and no more calls from the Pastor!!!!!!!!!

    I grew up in the '50s in what is now Korea Town in downtown Los Angeles. All flavors of Eastern Europe immigrants escaping communism there. These were a once a week staple when it came to making a dinner or whatever. Every combination of methods, but ended up with the same product. Ours ( Austro-Hungarian or now called Czechoslovakia) came with applesauce, sour cream and (for the fussy children) a brush of powdered sugar.

    I learned how to make potato pancakes as a kid from my mom. I use the food processor because I don’t like to grate by hand. We used to grate a 10 lb bag of potatoes by hand. I don’t know a recipe. I never put the flour in the food processor. I also fry in bacon grease, adds flavor. I fry on a square cast iron skillet.

But for me, I don’t have the answer except via google. I hope this helps. Potato pancakes are so good and fun to make. Not much different from Latkes, same thing just a different texture of the potatoes. Good luck!

Wife puts garlic guess if it fits your taste right. Also did you put anything into your sour kraut for flavor. My wife is German and she puts brown sugar and onions into her kraut. Does this matter in this dish because of the sweetness? Thanks for sharring were Definately gonna have these..
