    Thx Capt. Al. I got to view the training on a large monitor and I can actually read all the instruments! I've had to go back over everything again and picked up more knowledge and understanding which is great all over again!

      Great Mark, these videos would be tough to see more detail on a phone or smaller monitor...

    I really appreciate this stuff sir, I go to 747 training next week and, even tho this is primarily for simming, it is really helpful for me to understand a lot of the FMS locations and operations. I flew the e175 for 7 years and seeing some things it does better (like hold avail) and other things it does similar (like making abeam waypoints on flight plan) makes me happy that this is basically just an older gen of the Honeywell in the 175. Makes sense, considering it is the same company, and the Embraer was designed by older Boeing folks. Either way, really great stuff to get my feet wet before the official training!

      How is training going Mike? Glad you got a head start with some of my stuff. I actually have had a few pilots prep before training with my videos and I actually met one of them during his training with UPS. Glad I could help your journey, keep the blue side up...

      @@subsonicflighttraining training was very packed with information but I succeeded in getting my type rating just last week. It is a good feeling to be through it and to have such a legendary bird on my cert! Thanks for the help along the way. These videos helped multiple people in my class understand system information, especially the fuel system, which is it’s own animal.

    Excellent tutorial. Not rushed, so I had time to actually absorb what you were doing and learnt a lot. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.

    Many thanks Captain Al, your videos are a great help in preparation for the type rating. Wish you were a trainer at my current airline!

      Thanks Beach, glad it helped you, these are more aimed at flight simmers, but good you got value out of it for preparation for your type rating. Good luck on your check!

    Ditto possibly also the “Abeam Fix” problem encountered at circa 40:00! I have done several during long haul flights just to practice the technique and didn’t encounter this ‘overshooting’ problem so I suspect the update has also fixed this issue as well (but I only have done it a couple of times) so I can’t state that as being absolute!

    For future viewers I just noted that using the wrong convention on the OFFSET entry now shows the “Invalid Entry” message that is referred to at circa 13:00 in this EXCELLENT tutorial. PMDG have obviously addressed this in an update that issued after this vid was produced.... so there’s a big tick for PMDG.

      Yes, these were made over a year ago. I am on the PMDG tech team, so some of these could have been fixed from mine and others comments...

      Thanks Linkster, I actually am using a very good mic, sometimes it has been the simulation noise is too high and can interfere with my voice volume, which I will correct.

    ATC gave you a 090 vector which you bugged to but the track with the wind was more like 093 so wouldn't you bug 087 or something that would give you a 090 track?

    • @subsonicflighttraining
      @subsonicflighttraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, because ATC assigns headings, not tracks. If we are told to fly runway heading after takeoff and we have a 20 knot direct crosswind, our track will be different than our heading, but that is OK because everyone is flying that runway heading and drifting the same amount. Some SID procedures will call for a track to be flown, but LNAV will fly the published procedure, track and all...

    Dear Capt. Al, many thanks for the useful information on programming fixes. Similar to programming longitudal reporting points every X degrees: is that also possible every X miles or minutes of the flightplan?

    • @subsonicflighttraining
      @subsonicflighttraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I am understanding the question correctly, yes you can set up an along track waypoint to designate a certain mileage or using the Fix Page, you can put in a time and see where you will get to that time along your route. There are several different ways you could accomplish that...

    I am having to watch these videos for an FMS class I am taking. While this is all very interesting, the background airplane noise is SO LOUD, I can barely hear you. I don't know if you plan on making future videos of this sort, but if you do, you may keep that in mind. I am finding it very difficult to listen, which is very unfortunate because I am trying to listen for very specific information.

    • @subsonicflighttraining
      @subsonicflighttraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the input Micah, I need to go back and redo some of these with the annoying background flight deck noise. You should not have to struggle listening over non-essential noise. Sorry about that, these were early videos, but I will note which of these are really marginal…

    Helo captain al
    Great videos. Seeing Flightradar24, planes sometimos done change course on waipoints during cruise flight. Is this done inserting waypoints or the plane gets radar vectored? Thank you in advance.

    • @subsonicflighttraining
      @subsonicflighttraining  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Nicolas, most often in cruise flight, a change of course or flight plan change is given by ATC as a route modification. The change is easily programmable in the CDU so that LNAV can be used to fly the modified route. Occasionally, they can have you offset your route for traffic spacing or weather avoidance as well. Radar vectors are most common once you are with approach control and they start giving you vectors to fit you in with other inbound traffic.

    B787 FMC exercises would be Awesome as well. There is no official FMC trainer standalone for the B787. Closely guarded.. I dont know what the big deal is abt the B787 FMC but it is virtually the same as the B747, Being Type rated on the B787 I see the similarites are almost Identical. Great Work, for Real pilots a good review, and for Simmers Nothing but the best. keep up the good work.

    • @subsonicflighttraining
      @subsonicflighttraining  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Dimi, you are absolutely right, very similar to the 400 NG FMC and the 747-8. In fact, in my opinion only, even though I like the Rotary Cursor Control, I think a physical CDU would have been more desirable over the glass version, but Boeing decided on all the flexibility of what you can display on all these MFD’s. I would like to do some 787 tutorials. I taught on it for 3 years, but only am on the 747 now, so I do miss it. Easiest airplane you will ever fly on 1 engine with all the asymmetric compensation.

      Data needed are:
      1- Fix.
      2-Radial... who specify it & on what basis?
      3- Turn direction: L or R .
      4- Leg distance? What does it mean? & how did you get the 15 m?
      FMC calculates:
      - The best speed ( on economy basis) to hold at this fix
      -Time available for HOLD process at this fix or for all Holds at even different fixes?
      What is EFC time ?
