I was thinking the same thing. "Turbo" mode on my old Mazda 323 was turning off the AC while the car was accelerating. You could actually feel the car jerk forward a little with the boost in power.
I was fortunate. My first car was a 1974 Ford Custom 500. It was a PA state police car that was bought at auction by my neighbor. It was painted Grass Green and still had the spotlight mount on it. I bought it for $600. Everything worked incl A/C that I NEVER had to turn off..bc it had a 400 big block police interceptor motor. Plenty of HP to power anything needed! 😁
747 /777 mx here ,i recommend going to a museum, to get a good look at a boeing flight deck, it's organized quite well , the newer boeing 777/787 are much cleaner and neater much less switches and toggles
I have to disagree with the 747 being “the most beautiful plane.” While it is could be called the most impressive plane, IMHO, the most beautiful plane would be the Lockheed Constellation.

I’ve flown 747s for 14years as a first officer and not once had the captain “hold” the control column whilst I was pilot flying. Bad form, lack of trust in the pilot flying’s ability.
I'm not even a pilot and that's the first thing I asked myself, if the first officer is the pilot flying why is the captain also holding the controls? He should be monitoring that first officer and undertaking other duties that the first officer would not be doing at that point surely? Wouldn't want to be a trainee pilot with that captain 😮

I'm not a pilot. Always wanted to learn it but no money when I had the health and didn't want to go to the mililtary . These guys did a great job. Makes me wish I could be a pilot all the more, but I'm 68 y.o. and poor health. OH well. I watch it here.
I am 70 years old; Wanted to do this but not the money; I enjoy commenting; There are all kinds of study materials; When you get there if you could have you find 10 pounds of manuals and with experience it is found that they are very very useful

Retired airline pilot here. That seems to be a very tense flight deck. Not sure that I’d like to be in the jump seat. Why are both crew handling the control column on departure? That certainly wasn’t a SOP in my airline. The PF flew the aircraft on climb out whilst their colleague was responsible for R/T, autopilot inputs etc. Just asking .....
@@AirrowRocket Not odd at all - the captain has to be satisfied that the aircraft is behaving as it should and that the control inputs are correct. At no time were the inputs of the FO over ridden.
Such a beautiful view from the flight deck! Was really astounded by the quality of the filming and the sounds (especially with headphones). Really made me feel like I was sitting in that jumpseat, I could watch this hours upon end in a state of awe.

Almost 10 seconds between V1 and liftoff. V1 3:52 call, liftoff 4:01. Gear up call 4:09, end of runway about 4:12. V1 to gear up, 17 seconds. That's sweating it a little.
Yep. LONG time between V1 & Vr. Liege must be dang near sea level-thinking pretty balmy day there to do a packs off takeoff-density altitude not really a thing except if the OAT was somewhere in the neighborhood of +35C & a fairly short runway-combined with close to MGTOW-most high bypass fans these days have a crapton of excess power & for him to be worried about performance..........
Yes I would like to add my comment to others on here, Get your hands off the controls PM! The other PTT switch is on the radio panel on the centre console. And in my company the packs go off before entering the runway and not before taxi, that’s a bloody long time with no air for the passengers.

No I thought not or you wouldn’t have made your comment, basically the 747 is an oven on the FD as all the heat from the cabin rises and the only place it can go is in the hump. @ on the Jumbo unlike all the twins I flew before and since the APU is just used for ground air/electrics and starting the engines, that’s it, it can’t even operate through the full flight envelope and is never required for any abnormal/emergency procedures. The normal after start checks turn the packs on and the runway checks include the packs for a packs off departure, the after takeoff checks bring the packs back on but they should be reinstated after acceleration altitude. What these guys were doing was none standard.

In my early years at Western (as a Dispatcher) we had several Special Procedures airports in the mountain states. I was at a 747 start-up airline and going through ground school when they lost funding and went out of business, so I didn't finish GS, but I seem to recall that the APU can be used below 10 or 15,000' MSL.
Part of that is an optical illusion; that cockpit is a long ways off the ground. The other part is that they're trying to get 900,000 pounds airborne so acceleration was indeed a bit lame.
No doubt about it. These pilots, just like every other pilot, love their life to the fullest. And I can understand them although I'm not a Boeing 747-400 pilot. Unfortunately. Could someone tell my why the captain AND the FO have both their hands on the yoke? Isn't it dangerous to have two pilots controlling at the same time the aircraft? I think the captain is not really giving orders to the yoke but the fo should feel a certain resistance on his manoeuvres.

This captain is a scumbag micromanager with a MAJOR ego problem. I am type-rated in five jet transport category aircraft, including the 747-400. I fly for a major American carrier. In our shop, I'm sure it would be discouraged but I've never seen it in any case (~10,000 hours). That said, I'm hardly ready to dismiss the captain as an egomaniac for what may be nothing more than a bad habit. CRM in many countries is not understood/carried out in the same way it is here, though that is changing.

That is an OBSCENE amount of switches, knobs, dials, turny things, screens, pulleys, buttons 😳 pretty sure I'd sit there frozen from anxiety
Most of it is a duplicate , in case one fails

Seeing Captain Boeing in the Captain’s seat with his four bar epaulettes fills me with admiration, pride and respect for my Captain sweet Captain. Could someone tell my why the captain AND the FO have both their hands on the yoke? Isn't it dangerous to have two pilots controlling at the same time the aircraft?
I think the captain is not really giving orders to the yoke but the fo should feel a certain resistance on his manoeuvres.

@@skippynj1979 The pilot monitoring should have his hands NOWHERE NEAR the yoke, while the pilot flying is manipulating the flight controls. This captain is a scumbag micromanager with a MAJOR ego problem. I am type-rated in five jet transport category aircraft, including the 747-400. These procedures, shown by the captain, would get a guy fired here in America. Unacceptable.

@@V1AbortV2 not fired right away but a call to pro standards etc... retraining etc and possible downgrade.. i fly for an american operator as well.... but i agree there is a place and time for the captain to take controls.. holding your FOs hand like that is poor form and dangerous too.. ..
I fly for a major American carrier. In our shop, I'm sure it would be discouraged but I've never seen it in any case (~10,000 hours). That said, I'm hardly ready to dismiss the captain as an egomaniac for what may be nothing more than a bad habit. CRM in many countries is not understood/carried out in the same way it is here, though that is changing.
I remember the old 737-200 shutting off air pax. To get the most thrust out of the jt8d's P&W's. Especially on very hot days.
