Damn, I'm sorry you had to see that. I have a friend who dealt with the same thing. The way she talked about it, having to care for him and what not, was in such a nonchalant way that it made me think she really did not want to think about how bad the situation was. I only listened, but it really felt like she was holding back such emotion when I was looking into her eyes.

From the outside it may just look like a mma movie, but the fighting is just the vehicle to move along one of the most compelling stories of forgiveness I've ever seen. One of my favorite movies of all time. I am 38 and my mom had another son with a different man when I was 18. She lost him to CPS when I was 21 and he was 3 back in 2008 and I never saw him again and still don’t know where he is, as he got taken away 3 days before I left for basic training for the Army. Last time I saw my father was 8/18/2008. I punched him in the face 6 times and left for basic training the next day and haven’t seen him since. My mother has been sober for 11 years (2013) and we now have a a beautiful relationship, but I haven’t spoken to my father because he is literally the antichrist, and 16 years later I still haven’t found my half brother. I turned to jiu jitsu for an outlet and am heavily involved in that community so I love the MMA aspect along with the story. The movie admittedly resonates with me more so than it probably does most, and I can’t watch the final scene without crying every single time. I thought everyone did a tremendous job acting in it and I thought they did a terrific job mixing in the stories so it wasn’t just another fight movie. Wish more people reacted to this, it’s a great movie!
Edit: Tom Hardy is also a purple belt in jiu jitsu and competes fairly regularly and has won several competitions…and is one of the nicest humans imaginable.

I hate when people simply say, "This guy should've won" without having watched the other nominees. Christopher Plummer was amazing for "Beginners," and Nick Nolte was amazing too, but that's the thing with the Oscars: most of the time it's not going to be 100% objective because there's multiple actors that deserve the award; it isn't as simple as "He should've won.".

Also you might be surprised, but Joel Edgerton (Brandon) had significantly more mixed martial arts experience than Tom Hardy, which is one reason why they needed Tom Hardy's fights to be very short. Manny was military brother who died in the friendly fire incident that he was the sole survivor of. He felt betrayed and decided to leave and went AWOL and stumbled across some fellow soldiers who were drowning in the "tank" and he rescued them and has been hiding. He promised Manny that he would take care of his family and is fighting solely for them. That's why they all still cheer. Because they can all understand the situation and why he did what he did. @@chrissiereacts Also for Hardy look up ''The Drop'' (2014) he plays a autistic bartender who gets caught up with the MOB. Naomi Rapace is also in it (personally i think shes one of the most underrated female actresses) , and this also was one of James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano from The Sopranos) last few films before his sudden death. Great movie with a great twist at the end.

Brendan was played by Joel Edgerton, who is an Australian actor, who has also done some writing and directing in the past. His older brother is Nash Edgerton, who is the director of Mr. Inbetween, which is also being covered on this channel.

Kurt Angle was awesome in this. Everything he does reminds you he was/is indeed a legitimate wrestler and athlete. Also the sounds the actors make during the fights are really well done, the grunt and such, like the Bmrbm from Brendan in the last fight.

That gorgeous man you are referring to that was Joel Edgerton's character's first opponent was called Anthony "Rumble" Johnson, sadly he passed away on November 13 2022 from a rare auto-immune disease that he battled with for years, he was a true sportsman and gentleman of the UFC and challenged the UFC Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier twice before retiring. He was known for his exciting fighting style and terrifying knockout punching power and was a controversial fighter for regularly missing weight limits over 3 different weight classes.

This is NOT an MMA movie. Providing a little extra drama, MMA is only the back-drop. This is a film about a severely damaged family. Three brilliant actors, giving three stunning performances, in one amazing film. This is THE best movie you haven't seen.

This film is incredible. I always recommend it to folk because everyone should see it.
I like to think of the brothers as contrasting responses to trauma within the same person. The anger, the cerebral- one of them becomes feral and the other slowly drowns while it tries to maintain a sense of normality. In their confrontation and unity, they manage to cope.

I think the reconnecting of the brothers in the end really gutted me. My best friend who I basically considered a brother had a falling out with me. It was probably ten years of avoiding each other until I reached out to squash the beef. We went out for a beer together a few times. We're not the best of friends anymore but we still remain in contact. Life is such a ripple effect. It takes one small thing to change your life.

Nick Nolte made my heart and soul bleed with his perfomance. The casino scene where Tom Hardy's character tells him to f off, he's not wanted, and you can literally see the man crumble before your eyes, and the following scene where Nick Nolte's character is blindly drunk, listening to a voice book of Moby Dick, begging and screaming at the captain (Ahab) to turn the ship and not pursue the whale ... and then the son stops him, gets him into bed and nestles him. It's just so beautiful.

Maybe a bit long to watch, but Tom's portrayal of Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders seasons 2-5 is nothing short of brilliant. And can't talk up Legend enough either. Can't wait for Animal Kingdom reaction... Joel with Ben Mendelsohn, Jackie Weaver and Guy Pearce (who also stars with Tom in Lawless). Lastly, Dark Matter with Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connolly has been an awesome series.

Brenden's fighting style seems to be patterned after Sakuraba, the greatest submission specialist and p4p goat. Koba is basically Fedor the hw goat. Tommy is possibly a mix of Wanderlei Silva and Rampage Jackson.
If you're interested in the sport at all you should look up a Sakuraba tribute video. He was the most entertaining fighter ever, who constantly face opponents 20-60lbs heavier and was a threat to all of them.
Brenden is played by Joel Edgerton, he's in tons of great movies. Heck of an actor.

I will never forget the first time I saw this film. I was busy remodeling a house to convert it to a museum. I was taking up the very old linoleum, tar paper and roofing nails from some hardware floors and hadn't eaten all day. I ordered pizza, a lot of pizza, put on this film, watched it three times in a row and basically finished that entire floor well after midnight. It was a great night though because of this film and the determination of the characters.

Former active duty Marine here. When someone goes AWOL or Absent Without Leave and then caught (depending on how long they were AWOL) it can be anywhere from non judicial punishment which can lead to loss of rank, confinement to the barracks and loss of rank, or,and based on circumstances or it can lead to a Court Martial which could lead to confinement and dishonorable discharge.

I watched this film and it took me 20 years to forgive my dad, unfortunately my brother cannot! I hope my bro and my father can make their peace before there time is up.

If you enjoy Tom Hardy you should check out "Lawless" if you haven't already seen it. It has Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf in it. It's another one of Tom Hardy's great performances and an overall really entertaining movie. I think most people would consider Lawless one of his biggest/most memorable roles.
