Did price factor into the results? Considering how well you recently highlighted the bang-for-your-buck value of the ASUS Zenbook 14X it's hard to imagine you'd drop the ball here. You showed the G14 being $1300 (even at MSRP it's only $1600) didn't you, but then it lost points for the *highly* subjective keyboard & port placement, seriously? Something smells off.

@@JustJoshTech Businesses can often write off the price of hardware as an expense, so the cost of the device is less of a factor. But, for the rest of us (your audience basically), seeing as you see diminishing returns the more you spend on electronics above around 1.5k, what you get for your money is pretty important. You've done a number of great videos touching on this, & also make a point of highlighting where a capable device, if specked out, becomes ludicrously expensive (cough cough Razer). Here though you seemed to have forgotten money exists. It may not have to be the focus of any video, but very useful to also include in any results you draw.
Take the MSRP of a device, divide it by the points awarded, & the lower the score the better bang for your buck it is.

@@Lee.S321 Even being able to write off expenses device price is still an important factor. In fact its probably the most important factor. They just scout for whomever can get them the best bulk order /leasing prices.
That being said, for the majority of businesses these kind of devices in the video aren't in consideration anyway.
They mostly bulk order something like Thinkpads or HP Probook, etc.
For most jobs you don't need 4000 series GPUs, fancy looks, RGB, particular good screens etc. but companies may want SmartCard readers, (V-)pro CPUs, WWan Cards, Inhouse support, etc.

Very nice job on this comparison, especially great to see a wide variety of laptops being tested. I always appreciate that you pay attention to the heat produced by the laptop and felt by the user, not just how hot the CPU/GPU is. Nice to see the Slim Pro 9i doing so well, I have the model under it (Slim Pro 7) and while it isn't as fast or with as nice a screen it's still a great machine (they seem to share lots of similarities when it comes to their design/chassis) - helps that I snagged an "open-box" unit that was basically new for less than $700. Lower-end graphics cards are a nice compromise for that mix of gaming power but portability and temperature control in a 14" form factor - even a 4050 (or my poor 3050) can do some gaming if you keep settings balanced for it.

Honestly, same. My wife has a 16" MBP (M1) and I recently purchased the Zenbook Pro 14 after going back and forth for months (waiting for their release) between the ASUS and the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i.
Agree with the assessment though that the ASUS screen is dim, I really wanted the Lenovo for the bright mini-LED but in the ned much happier with the ASUS I think. Both laptops were hard to find for a couple of months and I went with the ASUS because the Lenovo did not offer the RTX 4060 version or even their teal color versions (that they gave all the reviewers).

So for me my favorite of the bunch would be the 9i. But if the games you play run on Mac oh boy that MBP14 is a beautiful marvel of engineering!
I do all my AAA gaming on desktop anyways like you said none of these are great for that. So I guess it could go either way. But I enjoy the option of playing any game I want even at lower settings on my laptop if I wanted to or on the few weeks a year that I’m away from home visiting family.

@@Peacetranquility447 I haven’t personally used the Zenbook but I have watched some reviews on it and know a couple people who had one. It’s a beautiful laptop with a nice OLED panel, but of course being OLED means it’s not very bright and there’s always a risk of burn-in. The G14 gets much brighter and the mini-LED display comes very close to OLED black levels but with a tiny bit of blooming, which I find to be worth the trade off for much higher brightness. The G14 also has a Ryzen 7940HS, which is much more efficient than the Intel. So that typically means better battery life, better performance on battery, and less CPU wattage needed in games. However the Zenbook would definitely win in build quality. The G14 isn’t flimsy by any means though, it’s a very sturdy magnesium alloy build with some aluminum. I’d still pick the G14 because the 4080/4090 performance is next level, but if the Zenbook had higher tier GPU options and more display options, I’d consider it much more.

    • @cenakaze
      @cenakaze 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Peacetranquility447 zenbook is less capable of sustained mix workload but slimmer while G14 is the opposite. If you want the best performance or you want to play games, go for G14. If you want a great touch screen for creative work, zenbook will offer it at a lower starting price than G14, which doesn't offer a touch screen and only includes its OLED counterpart, miniLED, at higher cost configurations. Granted, G14's IPS screen is excellent as is so if you don't care about OLED touch screen the G14 would be my pick.

As others said, I think next time cost (or value for money) should be added as a new category, or even a weighting of the overall score. Say, for instance, the Zenbook has a score 1 point under the Pro 9i, but costs 500$ less, I think it would be a better choice for most people.
It might also reduce the lead of the MBP, like you mentioned on your Zenbook 14/14X video.

Loved the comparison Josh. 14 inch laptops are my ideal since it's very portable and still has powerful enough components to do creative, productivity and gaming on. With that said, I would have 100% gotten the Macbook Pro 14 if it was able to handle gaming. Which is why the Asus G14 is the winner for me personally. One question for you Josh, for the Battery test, did you disable the dedicated GPU before video playback? I believe some of the AMD laptops can run for much longer. I get about 9-10 hours on my G14.

just one thing i might add: the oled panel in the zenbook pro has the best color accuracy, contrast and response time of all of these laptops. Yes it is not as bright and pwm might bug some, but other than that it is actually probably the best screen. Also no ghosting. It depends on your needs. That said, I actually really like the 14 inch macbook screen alot. Also, it is also worth noting that macbooks are only fast at video editing works bc hw de/encoders that are amazing at what they do, all the others laptops completely dominates (basically destroys) the macs in most other3d gpu loads, like blender, games and such. Im sure apple will look into it sooner or later, but if you need 3d performance and raytracing, windows is your friend atm. Macs do have unified memory though, so more complex 3d scenes possible. But for most common workloads a windows machine with cuda cores will be several times faster than even the most expensive mac. Which again goes to show, it depends on workload. Which is why im thinking your comparison might not give the full picture.

The Zenbook Pro 14 OLED screen is by far the best display I've ever used, and beats the minileds in both accuracy and colors. And regarding its low brightness: it actaully goes up to 400hz SDR when plugged in and reaches 550 nits in HDR mode, which I often use for daily usage as well (sadly there is no DCI-P3/Adobe RGB profile toggle in HDR...). It simply beats every other screen out there hands down, as you don't have the typical glow that still haunts miniled screen when viewing high contrast content. Great review, the Asus G14 is my favourite, I brought one. I think the problem with the Mac is they can’t really do AAA PC games. So the Mac should have received a lot fewer points on that criteria. It doesn’t really matter how good a computer is if it can’t do the basic user case of playing AAA games. Most people will only be able to afford to buy one laptop so they need an all rounder, the Mac fails on that point. I disagree the 14” size isn’t ideal for gaming due to its portability and ability to plug-in to a monitor or TV. I brought the G14 to have a portable gaming PC, that can do web browsing, word documents and go on holidays. Windows 11 is perfectly fine. I also own a Mac but it maybe my last one due to inability to play games. Although the Mac advantage is power off battery, low heat and noise and performance.

Awesome review Josh! Just wondering if do you plan to make a review of best laptops running on Linux?

Around 15:28, I just wanted to note that the Slim Pro 9i is offered up to an RTX 4070 (except good luck finding one), so theoretically it could have a higher score in that category.

Josh can you do a Legion comparison video and help to recommend which one to go for? There's that many different ones with different configurations it can be quite confusing.
