Owned it for about a year now - great feel; terrible on-board electronics. It sounds best with the sound-hole open, and through an EQ pedal. Keep bright strings off of it, as it already has a bright tone.

i'm seriously falling inlove with this guitar! i want a ac3r! but...i really wanted the prs se angelus custom first...what i really want the guitar for is home recording and performing alternative modern music e.g lifehouse,3 doors etc...i want the mic sound without havin to by an sm57..lol.....my only fear is that i saw alot of cheap guitars my yamaha so i'm afraid that at 900 this guitar would have good quality..i most say the finish looks amazing!!!! should i buy it? convice me...

E acreditem em mim, o modelo A5R é uma máquina. É um verdadeiro sonho de consumo para mim. Experimentei em uma loja o modelo A1M que é o modelo de entrada da série A. Este modelo já me impressionou bastante. O modelo A5R é o top de linha. Gostaria muito de colocar as minhas mãos nele e adquirí-lo. Infelizmente os importadores INCOMPETENTES da Yamaha não trouxeram nenhum modelo de Jacarandá indiano para o Brasil (A1R, A3R, A5R). Gostaria de poder xingar e ofender a mãe do cidadão responsável pela importação dos violões da Yamaha todos os dias. Don - I have one of these. Nice guitar, especially run through a system or recording. I'm curious why you weren't using the rubber sound hole plug. My experience has been it gives much more control over the amplified sound. Whadda you think?

Thank you for the review. The guitar sounds great. I'm down to a Wechter or the Yammy and really leaning towards the Yammy at this point. Unplugged, is there much of a difference between the concert vs dreadnought shapes? I think I'd like the smaller size of the C but don't want to sacrifice unplugged sound. Yamaha's site list the 3M's and 3R's with the same pre-amp. Is that the case and if so is the only different mahogany vs rosewood? Thanks again
Rosewood generally denser in tonality. Mahogany, usually brighter. That's just a general guideline. Gotta play each guitar yourself to hear if you like it.
Truly don't understand some of these folks who review guitars over a video... Ok, they explain the guitar - good ... They are good guitarists - good ... Yet, they show off their skills, banging, doing whack things on the guitars but then forgot that they need to showcase the basics of strumming, fingerpicking, flatpicking... relating to the basics of what viewers know very well so that there is a good comparison. What's with all these banging?!
some Yamaha 'artists' have that 'wack the guitar' style. Kinda like a cross between a drummer & acoustic player. Can't fault them. It's just the way they are. Maybe it's part of the Yamaha wack test to see if the guitar can hold up to the abuse. Never know. Although you have to admit, Segovia never wacked his classical.
Lotsa talk, not the best sound. This guitar really does sound so much better than just one player / one style can show off. Sounds like the audio is being recorded off the consumer video camera. Oh well!

It seems to me A3 acoustically sounds better than SRT. Are there just acoustic version of A3M WITHOUT SRT? It should be even cheaper )
