Just got a ridiculous deal on this guitar with some upgrades. Grover stay tite open back tuners bone nut and saddle and professional set up. I am super excited. I've been looking at these guitars for years. I really love what you said which is that basically you just plug the guitar and and play. I've had so many gigs over the years where I was completely dissatisfied with the sound and now I can send a pretty solid signal to the board and not have to worry about whether or not the sound guy can get a good signal from my guitar

Have you had a chance to play this against the newer model AC3M with ARE-aged tops and the System71 electronics instead of the System63 electronics? I think I'm getting one of these this weekend, and was worried that mine was the older generation, same as this one, but the sound is phenomenal and I'm not sure I'd want the so-called "upgrade" even if I had the choice. The electronics panel on the upper bout is a little bit more invasive-looking, but it offers a higher degree of fine-tuning and tone shaping, and I'm really liking the sounds I'm hearing out of this setup. Thanks also for demoing the guitar with some really killer lead playing, too. So many of the demos online are just strumming, and hearing that crisp note separation was a really big part of my choice to get this one.

Man this song is amazing. I'm going to get me one of these A5 versions. Just not sure whether it's going to be mahogany or rosewood. I played a used A3M at GC. It beat out many guitars 3 times it's value as I compared side by side. I'm selling 2 guitars to do this because those Yamaha's are so nice.
Thanks! I have a friend with an A3R and there's a notable difference in the treble content between the two. The mahogany is very dark and warm, where the rosewood is a lot brighter and more chimey. So if you have a preference it might help your decision. Personally, I like a darker acoustic tone.
@@GordOlson Thanks for the input....I currently have 2 Tak's with Sapale with Sitka top and a Mahogany with Sitka top. Seems I'm naturally drawn that way. Mahogany and Sapale are both easy to record and mix. I'll be selling one for that A5M. Side note - You definitely should make more acoustic songs.
Checking back in Gord. Came back just to hear this song once again. Man I love it and also watching you play. My update- a few weeks after my last post I bought an AC5M. It was a return and I got it for a good price. Unfortunately I wasn’t impressed and sent it back. Something was up with that specific guitar. I was really bummed because listening to your song I knew these guitars were good. Then I found a killer deal on an A3M and because I do like dreads, I bought it. The sound and playability of this one is just awesome. It’s my go-to now. I’ve had it for a while now and it grows on me more and more. Playing by the nut I have to be a little careful with the high e slipping off the fretboard though it happens less now. I have a plan to solve that small issue. It’s definitely my keeper. 👍 I’m over the China thing. I actually have a late 80’s APX-6 that has a neck I wish ALL of my guitars had…..including electric. The A3M neck is very close to that one. Rock on and Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you! I do still have it, and I still love it. It's a wonderful, warm sounding guitar that plays great. Hasn't given me a bit of trouble in the 5 years that I've had it! I'm sure the AC5M would be amazing!
Congrats on the new guitar! I am tuned down a whole step to D standard, so I'm using a slightly heavier gauge. I'm using D'Addario EXP17, 13-56 set. Cheers!

Great melody and song! Were you using the built in pick up only? Or perhaps through a Pre-amp? I have an AC3R and am a bit dismayed by the low output level through an amp, as compared to my Martin, Breedlove, and lace pickup Tele ,they have twice the gain easily. Do You use a pre- amped DI. I find the SRT system to be half the output level of these. Overall sound quality however is great...I just seem to have to use so much Amp! It is such a wonderful guitar and believe me I have played em all. BTW amp is a Fender Acoustasonic 90 TNX Paul
Hi Paul, yes I was only using the built in system, but set to mic only, no piezo. I also recorded this directly into my studio software. I don't have an acoustic amp, so I can't speak directly to your comment about the SRT system being inherently quiet, I'm sorry. I can say though, that when I record this guitar directly like this, it doesn't seem to have an unusually low output level compared to other guitars... I wish I could be more help to you! How does the A series compare to something like an apx or cpx, I ask because some prices are comparable. Great playing by the way. Also did you first learn on an electric or acoustic.
+curz34 I'm not entirely sure, tbh. I think they are fairly similar, but I think the A series has some different woods, and an upgraded preamp system, I believe. Don't quote me though! ;) I learned to play on an electric first, and personally, I think that's the way everyone should start. Electrics are much easier for beginners, with smaller or weaker hands, considering typical string tensions and neck profiles. Thanks for the comment!
