For this video we plugged the AC1 into a Roland AC-33 acoustic guitar amplifier, added a little reverb and EQ, and ran it direct out of the amp into our mixer. We combined this direct signal with a Shure Beta 181 mic placed in front of the instrument. Some playing examples use either the pickup or mic exclusively.

Same exact boat man. I'm looking to buy either the AC3M or AC3R and just can't decide.
To me, the rosewood is clearly higher quality, better, even, more complete and full sound, but the Mahogany just as a ring, and voice to it that I absolutely adore.

Hey there! great review! i was wondering how does the percusive performance of the guitar works out?

What a great guitar player! I have 2 vintage Japanese FG-110s, but this video made me want to check out this new guitar.
One thing about Laminate is that it's not so prone to enviromental changes, so if you play out a lot like I do and your playing inside and then outside in the same night you might not have to tune up so frequently. It's not a big deal really, but there's somethign to be said about playing out with a decent cheap guitar versus an expensive all wood guitar that could get damaged.

These look like Taylor 114ce and 214ce killers... I played both Taylors, but haven't been able to find an AC3R or AC3M locally...

I bought a new Taylor 114CE and I sold it because the electronics sounded thin and tinny through PA systems unlike my friends Martin with Fishman electronics. In the end the sound and feel was underwhelming. It had NO MOJO

R Atom i think i agree with you,....honestly the problem with taylor is their elec system,,, it cant produce the acoustic sound specially when plugged in.....sound is so thin......for yamaha,,,elec system is excellent........thats my observation

I tend to agree with you i like the 114ce better

Why? These Yamaha Guitars are all solid and have a way better PU-System for less money.

Unfortunately you cant get an "A" model concert size Yamaha guitar with anything but a 1.69 (1 11/16) nut width....So, when Don says Yamy is build this model based on "imput" from American Players, then i think he might be dreaming, as most "players", not the general audience but "players" like Don, will always play a 1.75 ( 1 3/4) nut width, unless they are being endorsed by a guitar builder (hint)(wink).
Its a shame that Yamaha wont create their "A" series for finger style players, who wont touch a 1 11/16 nut like this "A" series.....Yamaha would sell a lot more of these if they would just give you a wider nut......And you can get one, but you have to choose their LS or LL series, which both have wider nuts, but then you lose the SRT pickup system as Yamaha only gives you that on the "A" series.....So, if you want their best pickup system and are a finger style player who does not want the small nut width, then go buy a Taylor or a Martin or an Alvarez, because Yamaha wont give you a wider nut on a guitar AND the SRT pickup system.
Ignorance is bliss, they seem to think.

Sorry for the late reply on this. I do a lot of dreaming but in this case I was told by Yamaha USA, they went out to a number of players for feedback and thats what came back. Yes I do agree that many fingerstyle players are after 1 3/4 and for the most part I am as well. That said I have been using the AC3R as my main stage guitar even before this video came out. Love it for a number of reasons. Not sure of Yamaha's reasons for not doing a 1 3/4

+Fastguitars You sound angry. Actually there are many seasoned players who prefer 1&11/16"nut. I happen to be one of them and I'm equally frustrated because the trend in guitars now is to smaller bodies and most of them are 1&3/4... except for beginner models (Taylor and Martin). I've been playing for 42 years and have been looking for an OM/000 with 25.5 scale necks with little success... until I found these which I've yet to demo. I'd really prefer an LS16 but alas, only 1&3/4 nuts. All that to say it frustrates me too and that no one size fits all.

totally agree, for the most part we settle for what we get when it comes to major mfg's, however the goods is that if one has healthy budget you can to get a custom guitar built. For me I play a variety of guitars from baritones to harp guitars and each is different so I have adapted somewhat to all the differences. PIckups are also a whole other can of worms when it comes to preferences and whats available etc.

Thanks, Don. I have left wrist problems and I've set some carpal tunnel in motion by trying to "power through" on wider necks. Didn't work. I like your picking and your being real. Thx.

+Don Alder Acoustic Guitarist Yes, you can get a custom guitar built, but you cant get it from Yamaha through an American Retailer.
Currently, I own 3 Taylors, and have owned Goodalls, Collings, McCollums Breedloves, and many others, and some of those were custom orders., As a matter of fact, 2 of my Taylors are custom orders, with the other being a 912e, as i dont like cutaways.
What you've probably noticed is that all Asian guitars have the 1.68 nut, with only Yairi offering the 1.75 on a few models.
Yamaha offers the LS model which has the 1.72 nut, but, they dont offer the 1.75.
And whomever they were interviewing about nut widths, would not have been a room full of American Finger Style players as they dont prefer the 1.68 nut.
A lot of Bluegrass player like the smaller nut, as they like to wrap their thumb around the top to chord, however, the contemporary American finger style player, 95% of them, wont own a 1.68 nut as its too narrow.
Now, if you live in Europe or Asia, then the 1.75 nut is "odd", but here in the states, it's preferred IF you play finger style.
I'll tell you how you can discover just how unpopular a 1 11/16 (1.68) nut size is here in the states.
Take your Brazilian - Adi custom FG guitar and put it on Reverb, or Ebay, or The Acoustic Guitar forum, where all the players buy and sell, and state in the listing that the guitar has a 1 11/16th nut, and discover how long it'll sit there and nobody will buy it even if you offer it at a low ball ridiculous price.
You'll get a hundred comments telling you...."well, id own that if it didnt have the skinny nut, didnt have the small nut, didnt have the 1 11/16".
But on the other hand, as Don loves this size, he can buy them all.....so, thats a win for Don, but not a win for the rest of us.
