Basically, the word for "videogame" in Japanese was actually called "Terebi-gaemu (テレビ ゲーム)," or literally, "TV-game." Hence the translation. When Pepsiman was played at a GDQ, they talked about the guy who played him, and sent viewers to his twitter, and he spent the next day talking about the game, how he ended up doing it, stuff like that. He's a nice guy who seems to view it as a funny part of his past and is more than willing to engage with it, so it probably wasn't a big issue to get him.

I live in Tokyo and in Japanese video games are called テレビゲーム(terebi ge-mu or TV game) and they still refer to them as that now. As N GBF pointed out in the comments, yes, most people just say “game” nowadays but I still hear people say TV game on occasion.
Great episode, and for anyone actually wondering, he says "Pepsi for TV-Game" because in Japan console games are called "TVGAME", as in games you play on your TV.
The text for that stupid cutscenes was written by Japanese developers, who, as everyone knows, are pretty bad in English, so there was a lot of grammatically wrong bullshit and nonsense in them like "everybody Pepsi" and "Pepsi only my choice".

When Pepsiman was played at a GDQ, they talked about the guy who played him, and sent viewers to his twitter, and he spent the next day talking about the game, how he ended up doing it, stuff like that. He's a nice guy who seems to view it as a funny part of his past and is more than willing to engage with it, so it probably wasn't a big issue to get him.
That actor guy seriously has a lot of talent. It's a shame he never got a big break or something, he's charismatic and funny as hell

I live in Tokyo and in Japanese video games are called テレビゲーム(terebi ge-mu or TV game) and they still refer to them as that now. As N GBF pointed out in the comments, yes, most people just say “game” nowadays but I still hear people say TV game on occasion.

Great episode, and for anyone actually wondering, he says "Pepsi for TV-Game" because in Japan console games are called "TVGAME", as in games you play on your TV.
I figured that was the case.
One of the ways we used to call them over here was "games on TV" too. I didn't know there were other countries that did that.
Same in Norwegian, "TV-spill", where "spill" means game. "Video Game" actually make less sense than "TV Game".
The text for that stupid cutscenes was written by Japanese developers, who, as everyone knows, are pretty bad in English, so there was a lot of grammatically wrong bullshit and nonsense in them like "everybody Pepsi" and "Pepsi only my choice".
Like that old Nintendo Color TV-Game 6 AVGN showed before in the Pong Games episode
