Hey James, just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you still making AVGN videos. It's been over a decade and you're still putting them out there. It's real dedication right there!
It's the quality James puts un his videos that makes him popular for over a decade. Sad to say how others on TH-cam that were popular 10 years ago are forgotten today. You can tell that James respects the craft of filmmaking. He is a true professional
He's got a style that's just absolutely classic. The scat humor has been toned down, which I appreciate. But every episode is entertaining and has at least a few laughs if not an absolute ton. There's never been a disappointing AVGN episode. It's great.
AVGN is the only Internet series I enjoyed when I was twelve and still enjoy ten years later. I think it works so well because it's relatable for all ages. Children relate to the frustration of shitty games and adults identify with the cynicism of going into something knowing it'll suck. That's why it holds up so well. The swearing and over the top skits only enhance this. The Nerd is simultaneously ridiculous and believable, because his character is somewhere in between the frustrated child and cynical adult, which resonates with the audience.
Lol, thinking back, if AVGN existed when I was 8 and my parents caught me watching it, I'd have had no internet for like 2 months in punishment. Way too vulgar. XD
In some old Windows games (at least Win95/98 it was pretty common), if you Alt+Enter to switch for another application while there's audio playing, the game usually pauses but it may also stuck looping ~0.2 second long audio buffer. So, there you have it.
After all, he WOULD rather have a buffalo take a diarrhea dump in his ear, and he WOULD rather eat the mouldy asshole of roadkill and down it with beer, so you'd expect him to be pissed off enough to punch a shark.
Nostalgia Critic - makes pointless and unfunny sketches during his reviews AVGN - makes a "sketch" that's both relevant to his review, but is also done as a reference to the game series he's reviewing. James has always been the winner
did you see the starship troopers movie review video? james shamelessly promotes a $400 watch in it..LOL cant make this up bro. So he jokes about timex, some cheap watch in this video..then in his own video promotes some luxury watch, like any of his viewers are gonna buy it.
We all enjoy him but on the other hand, I respect his wish to eventually (probably) want to stop doing this stuff and do something new. 10 years is a long time to play the same character and do the same sort of show all the time. I won't blame him when it finally ends, and I'll enjoy rewatching the classics.
That ending just cracked me up dude. Always good to see a new nerd video. I said it before and I'll say it again, nothing compares to the original, like Gucci, often imitated never duplicated, the nerd is the one and only.
This is probably one of my favorite AVGN episodes and it's one that stuck with me to this day. The jokes, the review and the overall tone of this is my favorite, I grew up during the era when Lara Croft was still big and Core was releasing these games. The 90's and the early 2000's were something special and I am glad the Nerd is touching upon the history of these games.

One of my greatest memories, was my 12th birthday. I had a couple friends over to sleepover and one of my friends showed me the fucking Nerd. It's was ironically Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout, and I've been watching ever since. Still friends with him too, one of my best friends actually. Good times. Simpler times. :)
BTW Playstation 1 games are actually pretty damn small. The reason they usually took up so much space on a disk was either the FMV sequences or CD quality music. Matter of fact, games like FF7 have the same game code on each disc, the only reason you have to change is because the different game cinematics are on the different discs! Try it out, after you change discs when loading your game or after beating that part of the game, switch your disc back to 1 or 3. The game will play perfectly fine (at least until either a disc/copy check or FMV needs to play!)
Yep, I found that out as a kid when I played what i think was FF8. At some point, the game would freeze because the disc was scratched, but switching to a different disc solved that.

If you thought "Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness" was bad on the PS2..... Oh boy, believe it or not there was also a DVD player version of the game...... Where the game plays itself and you command it using basic JRPG text mechanics.

If he didn’t review newer games than he used to his audience would shrink. Back in ‘06 when AVGN got big the people in that 18-34 demographic were born in 1972-1988 and hence many of them grew up on NES. Now 18-34 is 1984-2000, many of whom grew up on the PS1 and newer systems. The older part of this group grew up on Genesis, SNES, even NES era, and of course you can still watch AVGN and find it funny at 35+ so he still has a lot of his original fan base too. lara croft its one of those strong female characters, shes an elegant and civilised polar opposite to duke nukem... duke beeing almost everything 80s action hero there is which in itself makes him a great character on its own.
My favourite part of angel of darkness was the tutorial saying "press the jump button to jump"... ye if I knew what that was I wouldn't be needing a tutorial now would I.

Ah my bad. Practical effects are something that James did a lot in his reviews, & some of the props seemed to be reoccurring stuff from his past episodes so I figured he and his team build them similar to the stuff he used in the Flying Fuckernauts vs The Astro Bastards video.
Time to be a smart ass, but there was another, much more obscure Tomb Raider game that could have been here besides the N-Gage one. Cant stomach the PS2 version of Angel of Darkness? Check out "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Action Adventure", a DVD game that takes the in-game footage of Angel of Darkness and turns it into a choose-your-own-adventure/puzzle/FMV style game. Its honestly rather impressive seeing as it actually included a password system to continue your game progress, but its just such a bizarre spin-off.

There may have been 2 actually. The one I mentioned I have a copy of and its its own individual release, but I also seem to recall some bonus game being included on one of the two movies DVDs as an extra.
If your PS2 console was in french, it would freeze the game after the cutscene. You return it to the rental store to be said that you need to put your console in english to make it work.
Angel of Darkness had so many weird glitches in the cutscenes. Like sometimes, the cutscenes softlock and the audio keeps repeating. I see it a lot in speedrunning videos
Came here after seeing that we're getting a new Tomb Raider remastered collection next year which will have Last Revelation, Chronicles and Angel of Darkness so hopefully the problems those games had will be fixed.
not really, its totally different in concept and gameplay. The modern games have nothing to with tombs or exploring, more on mountain climbing and killing people
don't care if its open world or not, when the very nature of the game is denied. And tombs should be the main places to explore, not a "secret section"

Been following cinemassacre since the beginning of youtube, and as strange as it is, you all have helped me through a lot of hard times over the past 12 years, so, thank you. AVGN just brings the perfect mix of nostalgia and comedy, and there hasn’t been a single person I’ve shown this series too that didn’t fall in love with it and follows it to this day.

If he didn’t review newer games than he used to his audience would shrink. Back in ‘06 when AVGN got big the people in that 18-34 demographic were born in 1972-1988 and hence many of them grew up on NES. Now 18-34 is 1984-2000, many of whom grew up on the PS1 and newer systems. The older part of this group grew up on Genesis, SNES, even NES era, and of course you can still watch AVGN and find it funny at 35+ so he still has a lot of his original fan base too. But even they probably played the PS1 and newer systems as teens and/or young adults.

lara croft its one of those strong female characters, shes an elegant and civilised polar opposite to duke nukem... duke beeing almost everything 80s action hero there is which in itself makes him a great character on its own.

Ah my bad. Practical effects are something that James did a lot in his reviews, & some of the props seemed to be reoccurring stuff from his past episodes so I figured he and his team build them similar to the stuff he used in the Flying Fuckernauts vs The Astro Bastards video.

Check out "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: The Action Adventure", a DVD game that takes the in-game footage of Angel of Darkness and turns it into a choose-your-own-adventure/puzzle/FMV style game. Its honestly rather impressive seeing as it actually included a password system to continue your game progress, but its just such a bizarre spin-off.
