Gentlemen. My wife and I suffer basil joint arthritis and have over the years worn out many a hard plastic molded thumb brace. I just now received this post while online and jumped on it when seeing the subject matter. I did the three manipulations of the thumb and tissues and my pain went from 9-12 to 1-2 after several minutes for each procedure. You guys are a blessing. I’ve sent this video to my wife and will seek other friends and family members I know of with the same injury. Thank you! Thank you. 🤗
Ty so much I went to a party and I got in the bouncy house. Someone jumped on my tumb and I try to feel it so I went to this channel. I can’t even imagine how you guys did that. Good job. 😊
Giving thanks to you guys, recently fell down badly on my hand and knee and hit my head in the process but that joint got even more screwed and ive been in pain. Did a few of these, i can still feel the pain but not as bad
We need to move that last miraculous exercise to the front of the video … Thank you so much for your help! I had lost my ability to SEE (what you all were doing) … and seemingly all my pores were pouring sweat (I guess I just DON’T tolerate pain at all) while my poor little thumb was crooked and QUIVERING (wow… ALL the homonyms got to play in one sentence), and adjacent finger nerves BURNiNG … I phoned a friend who paused her whole job to play this video loudly and describe exactly for me where “phalanx” was and what the other hand was doing and what “up” means … when you said about circular with the wrist .. or was it rotate? … it audibly popped immediately back into place. WhEW! … massive relief… fatigued, but very improved!
Just did all three self treatments and when I did the stretch (third treatment) my joint crackled a little followed by immediate relief. THANK YOU! love these guys!
You guys are SO AWESOME! I tried this and it works! I (hyper-extended?) my left thumb a few weeks ago, and it never seemed to get over it. I like to knit or crochet at night when I watch TV, but it only irritated it further. I finally remembered your TH-cam channel when I had visited your channel previously due to experiencing numbness below both knees, and I knew the problem was in my lumbar spine. I tried the technique, and after ONE session, I got up and had feeling in BOTH legs! I do this exercise often now! Anyway, I did the technique for my thumb, and PRESTO! I'm still going to give my thumb a break for a few days, applying ice, and not knit or crochet for at least two days. But the relief from constant pain is GONE! Sending much Gratitude!
Thank yall for this video ..I have been having severe pain in my left thumb...I use to braid hair and I had also worked as a PT rehabilitation tech for 8yrs...this video just let me know that was doing the right thing in my thumb care😊
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! I was diagnosed with tendinitis, right wrist. I've been in pain 😢 Had a wrist w/thumb stabilizer brace, and it's so bulky. Came across this video. Did 2nd & 3rd exercise, even heard a pop & felt instant relief!! I can move my thumb around without yelling out in pain. I feel a lil soreness from where the brace had my wrist constricted. Wow....pain free after almost 3 weeks!! Thank you!
I've been dealing with thumb/wrist pain for 3 years. Recently got surgery to repair part of it. Partially tore two tendons, and two ligaments during a biking accident. Then developed tenosynovitis in that sleeve around those two tendons, which prevented those tears from being able to heal. And also developed pseudo-gout in the bottom joints of my thumb/wrist.
A physical therapist in my area taught me an exercise that works every time for me. He told me to tuck my thumb into the palm of my hand, and close my other fingers over it, then put my arm out straight, and bend the hand down sideways at the wrist, towards the floor. Boy, does that feel great afterward!
Your videos have helped me so much. This one is perfect timing as I have discomfort in both thumbs. I've been a gardener for over 45 years and use to do a lot of DIY, so wear and tear. I've been told it's also called 'texting thumb' now! Thank you! Love and Big Hugs to Bob from the UK. x
An extra thing to look into: De Quervain's tenosynovitis! Had a problem with my wrist that got worse and worse over the course of a year no matter what. Finally asked a doctor and that was what it was! Very easy to test for, and they can either give you occasional steroid shots or set you up for surgery. Had a quick and easy surgery and my thumb felt better than it did before the moment the nerve block wore off a day later! I'm only 23 but I do heavy lifting at work and online school, so my tendons were being endlessly squeezed! Going back to work when I'm all healed next month and I already feel so much relief being pain free! Great tips guys, this was all stuff I was recommended before surgery became the best option. Hopefully for most people non-surgical intervention will be sufficient!
Funny my pain is on my NON Dominant hand, which has never been injured. I've injured my right hand which has no pain, multiple times and I am over 50yo.
I did not know what the pain was what was causing my thumb to hurt, so I just happen to have a salonpas , it worked great! But now that I know the cause of my pain, I will know what to do in the future, thank you
wow this was just what i needed, been having such pain in my thumb for 2 months now, due to using a flexi leash for my big excited dog, it's worn my thumb down, trying this now it feels good and i hope to see the pain lessen with time!
Glad you liked it :) Thank you for watching, commenting, and subscribing! Your loyalty and support make everything we do possible. We’re honored to continue helping people, and it’s all because of you!
Super grateful this was todays video topic. A soreness recently developed on my right hand’s thenar eminence that even picking up my coffee cup was uncomfortable. Trying these massage techniques provided so much relief. Nice to know which piece on the massage gun works for this, too. You guys are the best! 🙌
I've found that my socks are a pretty good wrist brace. I always go for a sock of medium length and kind of thick, and I cut the foot part of the sock off and discard. I keep the upper half that normally goes over the ankle and then cut a hole on the side for my thumb.
❤ Thank you so much! Seeing this video has made my night! All day I've been fussing over my hand trying to work around the house having to start and stop a lot. Your tips are instant pain relievers and I now have mobility of my thumb again without the ouch ouch! Also, thank you for sharing which kind of brace we should wearing! ❤❤❤
I got a right distal radius fracture on 12/15/2023 and 11 months later, I suddenly got major pain in my thumb and wrist triggered from weight training (I think). I diagnosed myself with DeQuervain's (and also possibly some carpal tunnel...both of which are possible side effects of my fracture). Anyway, I did the exercises from an OLD video of yours and it really helped. Thank you for what you do.
Now only if I had been taught this about 60 years ago... I have had thumb pain ever since having to hold a crayon or a pencil or pen. Using thick ones reduce it, but my writng has always been horrible whenever I have to use a slim pen, pencil or a crayon.
Thanks, guys. Perfect timing. I have a Malinois who is always on a leash, even in the back yard. When she sees a cat or a squirrel, it's like trying to stop a motorcycle. My thumb has been killing me for 3 days. The last one worked the best.
I have problems with both of my thumbs. It seems that I've already been doing what you were suggesting. I have a thumb stabalizer brace for when it's really bad and the pain will get better at the most within a day. I've also done the last one too.
Love your shirt Mike & be glad you don't have any pains.😁 This video is great. Thanks for all these ideas. I even have trouble doing dishes (I'm the dishwasher & I don't use electricity or space 😂) & cooking with heavy pots. I've been having pain in my thumbs & worried if it'll keep getting worse where I'll be in 10 yrs. I'm 60 & worried about arthritis now. I wish I had your gun but I'm sorry to say it can't afford one. I try to watch you every day & I'm amazed you can still find ideas after so many years of daily videos. When did you do your very 1st one & who ran the camera? You are all such a joy! 😇🙏🏻 Have a Blessed Easter! My mother-in-law passed away 12/25/21, Easter Sunday would have been her 95th birthday.
Thank you for watching! Glad to hear it was helpful. It's been more than 9 years ago that Bob started this channel!! Some of the old videos are still on it, what a difference from then to now! Technology is crazy. Sorry to hear about your mother-in-law, may she rest in peace. Take Care
Alternating hot and cold water helps to relieve pain/inflammation as well! Immerse hand in hot for 3 minutes, then cold for 1 minute. 3-5 repetitions. End with cold. Repeat 2-3 times a day!
I have this in both thumbs! when I use the non-massage gun techniques (I don’t have one) the receiving thumb feels better, but the thumb giving the pressure hurts! This is definitely a darned if you do, darned if you don’t dilemma! I guess I’ll just feel better one thumb at a time. Thanks for the exercises!
Bob and Brad, what do you think of using 1" diameter rubber bouncy balls to roll between flat hand and countertop to massage palm muscles? I like mine because I can take them everywhere without having to recharge.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Got anything for pain where the pinkie finger meets wrist, if I close my hand to make a relaxed fist, I get pain, shooting pain. I've been using the massage gun you were using for the pinkie to the wrist side of my hand. Are there exercises to keep hands and fingers strong, or is this wear and tear. Thank you again Bob and Brad
Question: I've tried the exercises on my arthritic (confirmed by xrays) thumb and used an electronic percussion massage device. All certainly do provide some degree of temporary relief. I'm wondering if you can explain from a medical anatomy perspective how these methods are able to provide some relief when the underlying problem is the arthritis-bone rubbing on bone due to deterioration of the cartilage between the bones, something no exercise us going to reduce or eliminate. Thanks for any explanation you can provide.
My cervical spondylosis has caused me right thumb pain for decades. I have just put up with it. There's no pain now but when I hold a pencil for example between my thum and finger it shakes involuntarily.
I didn't have arthritis in my thumb until I fell and sprained it. I thought it was just still sore from the sprain but when I went back for a 2nd x-ray it showed moderate arthritis at the top joint and the base of the thumb. Ice and heat helps a lot.
When you have bone-in-bone like I do, no exercises are going to help. I had my right cmc arthroplasty in 2018. I’m about to have the left done in a few weeks. Even so, if this is my worst health issue, I’m doing pretty good.
My non-dominant thumb is the bad one. I have a spur at the base of it. Not sure why, well, the last few years I've been crocheting a lot so I suppose that is the cause but I didn't crochet so much before then. Can it get a bone spur that quickly? My right thumb gets sore on occasion but the pain doesn't last long.
Do you have advice on hand pain due to the constant evolution of Dupuytren's Contracture? I have it in both hands. I Posted awhile ago, but I didn't check to see if you responded. It turned out to be a rotor cuff problem.
Just had x-rays done because of so much pain in the thumb base. Found out it's bone on bone...no cartilage at all. Got steroids shot in. Have to be careful not to make it worse.
I've got this pain in both sides and it clicks after I did some jump rope consistently over a fortnight when the weather was cold. The back of my hand is very tight also pulling on just below the thumb and onto the forearm.
I've experimented with electro-shock and it will temporarily stop pain. Lately, been experimenting with ultrasound (transducer purchased on Amazon) that really does work, but don't leave it too long since it will burn at the joint area (have traducer inside clear ketchup container (dollar tree) which I cut the top off to put inside and fill with water since it has to always be submerged in water. I then place the outside flat end of the bottle on the joint). Rubbing definitely works too, but usually the relief is not that long. Been living with the chronic pain for the better part of 12 years (stress injured on a contract job pushing a 3500lb cart of PCs around; of course that turned into arthritis). As the video shows, it's my lessor used hand that experience the pain (i.e, my left hand). Sucks, but at least I can get temporary relief which can last upwards of a few day. Even when the pain comes back, it's tolerable (i.e, most of the time I just ignore it). Only when I really cannot handle the pain do I use electro-shock or (of late) ultrasonic methods. Just wish there was non-surgical cure, but there is none, so I'll do what I have to when I have to. I do have lower back pain, but nothing like the sharp pains that can happen with this joint. lol :)
Started a new job pulling metal and loading trucks and my wrist bottom thin is super sore. Had my daughter pinch the snot of the area and man it felt so good with pain…. I kinda like the pain but it’s super painful
@@BobandBrad although where is the tall guy? Last time I checked in he was still there, having speech problems because of what he had, how is he? (My mum had almost the same thing)
My wrist pain is so bad im ready to wack my thumb off rather the deal with my local medical industrial complex of do nothing. So frustrating. Ironically i do some of your exercises just because it feel good. 6 months of intense wrist pain is getting old.
What about the area of thumb fleshy part . Also that knuckle. Hurts to touch . I can move it but with pressure it’s painful. Never had this before. Was doing lots of labor intensive things though.
I have severe degenerative arthritis in both thumbs. Injection in right did not help(dominant). But she injected me for second time in left and I pray it lasts as long as first(2 years😳) Trying to avoid surgery. Afraid to do your exercises….can it make the pain worse?
After 12 years of twisting, turning, gripping and pulling with my hands at work both of my thumbs suffer from this exact pain. I tried the 3 exercises but my thumbs are too far gone at this point to really receive any kind of relief. Was told by 2 different doctors to go to a specialist. I know by doing this I'm going to be out of work and I simply can't afford to do that so the cycle continues.
What if it seems to be the tendon in the thumb? I can make a fist but can’t squeeze the thumb down and tuck it away so it doesn’t get caught when I box.
i got terrible thumb issues after having to wear a cast for a radial wrist fracture., tendonitis, but i also play guitar and never had issues before but every once in awhile this thumb flares up, should these exercises help?
So is it possible I caused nerve damage if I hit my wrist with a log chain and it caused a tingly numbing sensation on the inside of my thumb, and whenever I apply light pressure it reoccurs?
i injured my left thumb 6 weeks ago and it still hurts i was pumping out dry cement and the hose kicked back and hit my thumb and it punched it hard the pain has been mild but today it hurts so bad that my head hurts also i think i re irritated it two days ago i had to empty out a cement hose that was clogged and it was very heavy which i used both hands to do the job, maybe there is some internal injury. It does feel hot to the touch and it looks swollen. It's been hot to the touch and swollen now for 6 weeks i thought it would have healed by now. not sure what to do for it. I think it needs ICE i do have Biofreeze but i don't know where i put it.

Is the treatment the same if a tendonitis is the cause?
1000 thanks for this nice video, great help to everyone in the world🌐, because they need it🥰
Am on holiday and this video helps me 💚 my thumb hurts.
I can pull on my thumb, as you described, and can "pop" the joint. Like cracking my knuckles. Only temporary relief. But better than nothing.
When I was doing push ups and the thing fell hurt on me so thanks
Interesting
My pain isn't on the cmc joint. It's in the front meaty part of the thumb from crochet
Thanks guys! Helpful!
I do have lower back pain, but nothing like the sharp pains that can happen with this joint. lol
:)
Thanks for sharing! You have had a lot of experience, we appreciate you sharing
My dominate hand is my right but I hold my phone with my left. That's the 1 that hurts.
Same for me, my left thumb hurts!
I drive with my left hand and of course use it to hold my phone when I type on my phone.
Started a new job pulling metal and loading trucks and my wrist bottom thin is super sore. Had my daughter pinch the snot of the area and man it felt so good with pain…. I kinda like the pain but it’s super painful

Always here for you!! Thank you for continuing to watch! We couldn't do it without you!
@@BobandBrad although where is the tall guy? Last time I checked in he was still there, having speech problems because of what he had, how is he? (My mum had almost the same thing)
I broke the left Basel bone. So painful
I gotv the sugar shot in that joint, hurt like hell but worked great

What if it seems to be the tendon in the thumb? I can make a fist but can’t squeeze the thumb down and tuck it away so it doesn’t get caught when I box.
i got terrible thumb issues after having to wear a cast for a radial wrist fracture., tendonitis, but i also play guitar and never had issues before but every once in awhile this thumb flares up, should these exercises help?
So is it possible I caused nerve damage if I hit my wrist with a log chain and it caused a tingly numbing sensation on the inside of my thumb, and whenever I apply light pressure it reoccurs?
My pain is not on my dominant hand. I thought it was caused by scrolling.
i injured my left thumb 6 weeks ago and it still hurts i was pumping out dry cement and the hose kicked back and hit my thumb and it punched it hard the pain has been mild but today it hurts so bad that my head hurts also i think i re irritated it two days ago i had to empty out a cement hose that was clogged and it was very heavy which i used both hands to do the job, maybe there is some internal injury. It does feel hot to the touch and it looks swollen. It's been hot to the touch and swollen now for 6 weeks i thought it would have healed by now. not sure what to do for it. I think it needs ICE i do have Biofreeze but i don't know where i put it.
