Story Summary :-
Ruth (OP) never had a good relationship with her father growing up. Her parents separated after she was born and she was raised by her mother. Her father was largely absent though they lived in the same town. After her mother died when Ruth was 13, she had to move in with her distant father.
Ruth's father had an affair and a child with Samantha before Ruth was born. Samantha and her two sons also lived with Ruth's father. Ruth always disliked Samantha, who discriminated against her versus her own kids. Ruth knew for years that Samantha cheated on her father but kept silent.
As an adult, Ruth fell in love with James, her stepbrother's friend who often visited. Ruth and James got engaged. At a family party, a drunk Samantha blatantly came onto James, making him deeply uncomfortable. When James told Ruth, she could no longer stay quiet about Samantha's infidelity.
Ruth secretly gathered evidence of Samantha's affairs over the years. One day while her father was away, Ruth confronted Samantha with the proof and blackmailed her to confess to the father or Ruth would expose her cheating publicly.
When the father returned from a trip, he walked in on Samantha attempting to sexually assault James. The father immediately had a talk with James Ruth and Samantha. Ruth presented her evidence of the affairs and Samantha finally admitted the truth. The father was devastated.
In the aftermath, the father divorced Samantha. She faced criminal charges for adultery as well as loss of custody of her son, financial penalties, and social ostracism. Ruth wondered if she should have exposed Samantha's infidelity long ago before she could hurt James.
Ruth and James postponed their wedding plans to support her father through his painful divorce. Ruth hoped she could improve her relationship with her father after their shared experience. Though annoyed by his criticism of her career, she tried overlooking it for now.
Months later, Ruth and James married during their honeymoon. Ruth's father already had a new girlfriend named Mavis who cared for his son Ben. Ruth was pregnant and had opened her own successful vet clinic. She invested to provide for her child. Ruth convinced her father to start therapy to process his trauma and improve their relationship.

Tbh, I can see why OP didn't tell her father sooner. She was already living in a toxic family. Samantha, of course, showed favoritism, and cheated on OP's dad. Yes, Samantha has bipolar disorder, but that's no excuse. However, OP's dad was a terrible parent too, being arguably worse than Samantha was, prior to her attempted affair with James, that is. Firstly, insulting your child's grades does NOT help them whatsoever. OP's dad should've encouraged her to do better and help her through school, not insult her! Then, a vet doctor "not being a real doctor"? WHO CARES!? It's a REAL job, that pays REAL money, so mind your own business, dude! So, OP's mindset was probably, "My dad's been treating me like trash, so why I should I help him?" Honestly, I wouldn't have had the desire nor the energy to tell my dad either, in that context. It was only when James experienced Samantha's "episodes" that her affairs became OP's problem.
Speaking of James, good job, my dude! He felt uncomfortable and left the situation, valuing OP over his mother figure, and rejecting Samantha's affair. James liked Samantha, but was determined not to take her side, and had enough common sense to react at least somewhat appropriately. I say "somewhat" since he could've just yelled at Samantha to stop, but seeing as Samantha was his mother figure and that situation was uncomfortable... I can't be too harsh on James, or say that he should've done better. His reaction was still more than sufficient.
All around, just an unfortunate situation, with James and OP helping each other out of their horrible lives. I just hope that they get along and that Mavis disapproves of her husband's behavior towards OP.
With so many wrongs it's hard to find a right, still I wish the best for everyone.
I always longed for my mom's validation, so I know the feeling. I moved in and cared for her when she had cancer and we started to get closer. Later she had a stroke. After that everyday she would say I was the perfect daughter. I loved that she said that, but always wonder if she would have done so if she hadn't had the stroke.
OP is blinded by love or she would be needing to know why her bf was at step mums, the woman he knew wanted to have sxx with him, and was there alone when her father was out of town. OP this guy was cheating on you and your dad caught them, but you were so invested in the revenge you don't want to see it. Seems like father, like daughter.
That's my question - like why revisit the home. BUT you gotta remember he was a LONG time family friend, and he could have been there for the brother or any number of reasons. Hell, he COULD have thought she'd back off after OP gave her the ultimatum.
It did say somewhere in there that he froze up when being SA'd bc it happened in the past.

@@TehAnshiTunes he knew the husband was away and she was in the house by herself, he knew she has wanted to have sxx with him for years, even to the point of assaulting him in front of everyone at a party, which I'm now thinking he only said because someone else saw them and he was worried it would get back to gf. No one would ever go to that house with her there alone, no person would ever willingly meet up with a rapixt or attempted rapixt alone, they would take their partners or a friend if it was so important they had to go. It keeps looking more and more like bf and step mom have been having sxx more tha an affair for years.

Well tbh ... on the note of reproduction ... love is not a mandatory thing. You do not need to love a child to a working adult. Just raise it, send it to school and kick them out once they are q8 and your job is done.
I am not saying that loving a child is not constructive ... hell, it is one of the most constructive and build-up thing a parent must do.
I love my daughter but there is one thing I always tell her ... when she speaks of boyfriends or children. I will never ever take care of a grandchild. Once my daughter leaves the house? My job of parenting is done. I did everything alone? So I expect the same of her.

Wasn't trying to offend anyone. Two of my kids is bipolar. Just saying that long as they ( my kids) are on their medication they are fine. I'm just saying there are no excuses for them to stop taking their medication. Knowing how it helps them. That's where they personal accountability comes into the picture. That's where no excuses comes in. I have ptsd . I don't use that as a excuse to things that are wrong. I was missed diagnosed as being bipolar when it was my ptsd. So I stay on my medications. I hold myself accountable for the things I do when I stop taking my medication .
