Super enjoyed this one! I know it's a bit more niche, so please do let me know if you want more vids like this down below! Also, play ULTRAKILL (if you've had your glucosamine) - Jimmy
Man, this list is loaded with great ones. Thank you for clueing me into old school rally. We had an Xbox growing up, but Colin McRae was one of my favorite series of that era. Also, the funny thing is, the first time I ever heard of Triangle Strategy, I assumed it was a tactical RPG game. I know in the fire emblem games there is actually a tactic known as the trying to strategy involving three Pegasus knights. I just assumed it was a reference to that.
I know some say they don't make indie games like this because sprite based indies inspired by the 16-bit era hold up better and that while many are nostalgic for the early polygonal era this style of graphics NEVER looked pretty. And while I agree to an extent, I also genuinely believe that this (ugly) style of 3D has its charm. Sure that might in part be my own nostalgia talking, but why can't games that remind us what early 3D looked like also have a place in the industry?
I've been so excited for this video, I'm sorry. This kind of thing is endlessly cool to me and it's great to see Cultured Vultures getting into these modern PS1 games.
I feel the need to mention that Luminous Avenger iX is part of the Azure Striker Gunvolt series and is esentialy what Zero and Blues/Protoman are to Megaman and X. It's worth a try in my opinion, if you liked the Megaman Zero series on GBA and DS.
Triangle strategy........ 🤔 How about something along the lines of "Balance: Scales of Fate" or "Actions have Consequences" good games with bad names sounds like a good video idea hint hint.
Check out Wanted Dead when you do the ps2/3 version of this video. It was my favorite game of 2023 despite its flaws. If you can enjoy Rising Zan though you shouldn’t have any issue with it because it’s much less janky than that at least.
Wasn't that keen on Wanted Dead when it came out (I reviewed it for the now-zombified CV website), but I know the dev team have updated it a bunch since, so I've been somewhat curious to go back.
Maybe it's because it came out when I was at the end of my teen years, and I was primarily a PC gamer at the time, but the PS1 era of 3D graphics (I guess the N64 too, but I never really played on that system) is my least favourite era for visuals. Generally speaking it seems so clunky and awkward to me, and maybe it's because polygons were going through growing pains, but I don't have a lot of nostalgic love for that period of graphics.
Emulation is great for preservation, but you can't beat playing retro games on real hardware (and a CRT display, natch). When I'm playing on modern hardware these modern retro-inspired games are a much better choice imo.
I'd play Ooom, sounds like a blast! If you ever consider doing another video in a similar premise, try Lunacid. It's like a modern King's Field, Slipstream is also a very good one, it is like Outrun. And for someone who would miss a Castlevania Symphony of the Night but don't want something obvious as Bloodstained...Can I offer a ASTLIBRA Revision for absolute insanity for how long it goes? Or The Last Faith.
NOW DO N64! It's slower on the revival but there are some genuine gems. Namely games like Corn Kidz 64 and the upcoming Mischief Makers spiritual successor.
PSPs go for about 80 to 120 for a nice one and take about an hour to figure out how to mod and put games on ,even for someone with no computer experience like myself.
Beginning to believe that Jimmy is sitting on 100 copies of C-12: Final Resistance, and is hoping to use the Cultured Vultures platform to balloon the game's value and make a tidy profit. Second channel vid of every time you've mentioned it?
it's fun! it's kinda like Syphon Filter a bit, but my 12-year old nostalgia might be overselling it tbh, guess I need to do a playthrough on the second channel
@CulturedVultures ill trust you. The price is pretty cheap, and I need another game that starts with C for my collection. Does it play like the Army men games?
@@AlmostCoolGuys yeah, super cheap! managed to get it sealed for like £10 before the world went insane. It's a tad like Army Men: World War! basically imagine Syphon Filter but in the Skynet future timeline and with a lot of atmosphere
it's another video where you used great music. i can see you credited the channel but would you be able to link to actual music you used? thank you in advance
I refuse to play Eiyuden Chronicles. My boy ProJared was an early backer of them and used his platform to promote the game in development. He was told they’d put in an item that would represent him, but they reneged.
I mean, it's a good game if you like Suikoden. No real reason to avoid playing it because they decided his controversy didn't need to put a stain on their release.

I got excited because I though they were actually new PS1 games being made by people, only reason I clicked. Title is a little misleading.
I love this idea for the video would love to see more of this!
I really like how some indie games captured the ps1 and other older consoles aesthetic and the gameplay!
thanks, bud! would love to do way more videos like this one!
@@CulturedVultures would like to see more if you find any more interesting indie games, man!(:
Awesome list! If you end up doing a sequel, Pseudoregalia’s another sick PS1-like that deserves more love.
Now this is great content. Awesome job, dudes!
"Ooom" 😂 reassuringly non a.i narration and curated content for the win, man!!
Fantastic list. I'm hanging out for the physical version of Crow Country.
King's Field/Shadow Tower fans should definitely try Lunacid.
Great indie gem of a game that perfectly captures old school From Software vibes.

Excuse me, Red Dead Redemption is already called "Grand Theft Horse".
Shakedown Hawaii reminds me more about Gangstar: Crime City Java mobile game rather than GTA. Even though both are inspired by GTA
Great list. Even wishlisted a couple :)
Love you jimmy. You the man.

PS1 RPGs were awesome blessed to see and have all from 1980-Now I have every console and tons of games what a life of gaming throughout the decades
This was a cool video idea! Could you do one for ps2 inspired games for 6th gen kids like me?
Triangle strategy........ 🤔 How about something along the lines of "Balance: Scales of Fate" or "Actions have Consequences" good games with bad names sounds like a good video idea hint hint.
It would be awesome if someone would make new Games/ports for the ps1🤘🏻
Not going to lie, but that’s what I thought this video would be about 😢
nice! looks like the shakedown hawaii game is 80% off ($4) on steam for the next few days

been on my list for ages!

Would love another video like this! Hollowbody feels a lot like a ps2 silent hill 2.
oh yes, ever played Tormented Souls?
@@CulturedVultures I haven't but I've heard it was good, and that there's a sequel coming! The visuals seem pretty high def.
I'd play Ooom, sounds like a blast!

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is another good modern homage to SOTN, despite being based on the totally unrelated Record of Lodoss War franchise.
NOW DO N64! It's slower on the revival but there are some genuine gems. Namely games like Corn Kidz 64 and the upcoming Mischief Makers spiritual successor.
think I gotta, cheers for the recs!
Wouldn't mind trying out OOOM
Sounds interesting
bring back QAKE first imo
Not before Ureal Tournament.
Triangle Strategy is amazing
Great video idea. MORE
+2 for gloomwood. that game deserves way more love
it's so good! I've been playing a lot of Fallen Aces from New Blood too recently, couldn't cram it in
Eiyuden Chronicles is good
If planning to do one of these for N64, consider the early access EX-Zodiac.
I was actually just thinking N64 could be an idea, thanks for the tip!
Man, if only I could buy a $50 handheld console and put every PlayStation game ever made on it and keep it in my pocket all the time. If only...
PSPs go for about 80 to 120 for a nice one and take about an hour to figure out how to mod and put games on ,even for someone with no computer experience like myself.
I'm going to tell my brother about Azure Striker Gunvolt.
Was gonna say these new ps1 games looking nice.
I hope it will become new series!
good video! the music is too loud, though. it was hard to hear some parts.
noted, thanks for the feedback!
I'd do emulation even the way many recommend (pirating games ISOs) but I'm on the fence about pirating lol.
Want a good demake? Try Mega Man X 8 demake. It’s better than the original because it’s done in SNES graphics and controls.
a video on actual demakes could be pretty fun... 🤔

Second channel vid of every time you've mentioned it?
🤐
Am on to you, bird boy.
I prefer 'Not Ivalice: Battle of the Grid,' instead of Triangle Strategy to be honest...
liking the video before watching gang, where you at
god's work
….Rally. 😂
Let’s go boyz!
thanks so much, dude! appreciate you long time
Im going to buy C-12 i see it every time I'm out "Retro hunting ". Is it really THAT good?
it's fun! it's kinda like Syphon Filter a bit, but my 12-year old nostalgia might be overselling it tbh, guess I need to do a playthrough on the second channel

thank you, and sure!
FF7 Theme - Rifti Beats
Drizzle - Bits & Hits
Streets of Whiterun - Bits & Hits
@@CulturedVultures Thank you so much! I will be listening to this during work today :D
You are doing great work on your channel, all the best.
18:16 Stratrinity?
ah the ps 1 the good all days still goe emulation still.
Ooom erasure will not be tolerated
I find this video confusing - wtf does these games have to do with PS1?
All of them were inspired by games that were on the PS1 or have that aesthetic
I have C-12 😅
a comment
psst1 for a surprise?

Big effing deal
cry more
Triangle Strategy looked fun, but the cutscenes REALLY killed the pacing.
as an MGS megafan, lemme tell ya, it's *light* work
psst1
