Super enjoyed this one! I know it's a bit more niche, so please do let me know if you want more vids like this down below! Also, play ULTRAKILL (if you've had your glucosamine) - Jimmy
Man, this list is loaded with great ones. Thank you for clueing me into old school rally. We had an Xbox growing up, but Colin McRae was one of my favorite series of that era. Also, the funny thing is, the first time I ever heard of Triangle Strategy, I assumed it was a tactical RPG game. I know in the fire emblem games there is actually a tactic known as the trying to strategy involving three Pegasus knights. I just assumed it was a reference to that.
I've been so excited for this video, I'm sorry. This kind of thing is endlessly cool to me and it's great to see Cultured Vultures getting into these modern PS1 games.
Triangle strategy........ 🤔 How about something along the lines of "Balance: Scales of Fate" or "Actions have Consequences" good games with bad names sounds like a good video idea hint hint.
I feel the need to mention that Luminous Avenger iX is part of the Azure Striker Gunvolt series and is esentialy what Zero and Blues/Protoman are to Megaman and X. It's worth a try in my opinion, if you liked the Megaman Zero series on GBA and DS.
great list, really need to play Prodius, have this laying around for month now. Also waiting for a physical of Crow Country, hope this get's picket up by one of the micro publishers. I can also recommend Lunacid. Enjoyed this one quite a bit and might remind of games like King's Field. Another one in this direction is Monomyth, but this is still in EA
I just discovered your channel and is awesome. i'll add Alisa, The Tower on the Borderland (PS2 like), You Will die here tonight, Fear the Spotlight, The Big catch: Tacklebox, Toree 3D. I haven't played them all (i have them on My wishlist) but they have positive records on Steam.
I didn't get that game because I was too busy playing Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, 3, and Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash, Diablo 1, Bloody Rawr, Bloody Rawr 2, the Spiro 1, and 2 games, Medieval, Play Station Underground demos (Unfortunately some of those demos never became fully fledged games), Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy 8, a few racing games, Tomba, Marvel vs Capcom, Vagrant Story, The Granstream Saga, Infinity Saga, Heart of Darkness, Death Trap Dungeon, and Sega games. Not to mention Chrono Cross.
I'd play Ooom, sounds like a blast! If you ever consider doing another video in a similar premise, try Lunacid. It's like a modern King's Field, Slipstream is also a very good one, it is like Outrun. And for someone who would miss a Castlevania Symphony of the Night but don't want something obvious as Bloodstained...Can I offer a ASTLIBRA Revision for absolute insanity for how long it goes? Or The Last Faith.
Check out Wanted Dead when you do the ps2/3 version of this video. It was my favorite game of 2023 despite its flaws. If you can enjoy Rising Zan though you shouldn’t have any issue with it because it’s much less janky than that at least.
Wasn't that keen on Wanted Dead when it came out (I reviewed it for the now-zombified CV website), but I know the dev team have updated it a bunch since, so I've been somewhat curious to go back.
I wish Konami would've put the psp on this collection, and then made a second ps2 (3,4,5) second collection... Please. What weird be AWESOME is if Bandai namco would work with monolithsoft so make the original planned six episode long xenosaga series. Or at least port xenosaga 1-3...
That's Cassandra the Innkeeper from Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. She's not a fighter but her ability to be the only support that lets you switch party members at any save point that's not an inn comes in handy early game. Especially when one of the early dungeons is a slog to go through and backtracking sounds worse.
NOW DO N64! It's slower on the revival but there are some genuine gems. Namely games like Corn Kidz 64 and the upcoming Mischief Makers spiritual successor.
Crow Country reminds me so much of Digimon 1 from PS1. Love that graphic. Also wished PS2 era aesthetics will make a comeback too soon. That Classic Rally game reminds me so much of Road Trip, the only car driving game that i had ever willingly play and subsequently loved 😂 that game was the pioneer to my adult version's love of cozy and relaxing games. The soundtrack was so good too.
This is a great video but its not what I expected when I clicked the thumbnail. I thought it was about PS1 games being made and released FOR the ps1 console. lmao.
NGL I was hoping this would be new produced games FOR the psx (with psx hardware). Think there are still ppl doing games for Dreamcast and even Neo Geo got a cart release the other month.
I know some say they don't make indie games like this because sprite based indies inspired by the 16-bit era hold up better and that while many are nostalgic for the early polygonal era this style of graphics NEVER looked pretty. And while I agree to an extent, I also genuinely believe that this (ugly) style of 3D has its charm. Sure that might in part be my own nostalgia talking, but why can't games that remind us what early 3D looked like also have a place in the industry?
Maybe it's because it came out when I was at the end of my teen years, and I was primarily a PC gamer at the time, but the PS1 era of 3D graphics (I guess the N64 too, but I never really played on that system) is my least favourite era for visuals. Generally speaking it seems so clunky and awkward to me, and maybe it's because polygons were going through growing pains, but I don't have a lot of nostalgic love for that period of graphics.
it's another video where you used great music. i can see you credited the channel but would you be able to link to actual music you used? thank you in advance
Emulation is great for preservation, but you can't beat playing retro games on real hardware (and a CRT display, natch). When I'm playing on modern hardware these modern retro-inspired games are a much better choice imo.
PSPs go for about 80 to 120 for a nice one and take about an hour to figure out how to mod and put games on ,even for someone with no computer experience like myself.
it's fun! it's kinda like Syphon Filter a bit, but my 12-year old nostalgia might be overselling it tbh, guess I need to do a playthrough on the second channel
@CulturedVultures ill trust you. The price is pretty cheap, and I need another game that starts with C for my collection. Does it play like the Army men games?
@@AlmostCoolGuys yeah, super cheap! managed to get it sealed for like £10 before the world went insane. It's a tad like Army Men: World War! basically imagine Syphon Filter but in the Skynet future timeline and with a lot of atmosphere
Beginning to believe that Jimmy is sitting on 100 copies of C-12: Final Resistance, and is hoping to use the Cultured Vultures platform to balloon the game's value and make a tidy profit. Second channel vid of every time you've mentioned it?
Nightmare Kart is free and hit a popular genre with a twist because most arcade racers for the era were for kids 😂 The wannabe tales of i take personal insult as a game dev, especially the polished 3D model and oversized pixel sprite on the same screen together, even in the 90s people knew better than to just release something incoherent for profit
It IS somewhat jarring to hear "This rally game reminiscent of the PS1 era is currently in Early Access" Man, I get how early access and kickstarts can fund development but... what the fuck stops a game like this that looks like dreamcast footage being released? (Yes, I'm fully aware I'm not a game dev and have no idea what it means NOWADAYS to make a "retro-styled" title that uses the current game engines, and what that means for implementation)
Miss the ps1 ? Play these non ps1 games! yeah right. do you know how many games there is on ps1? just in racing game genre alone there is so much.there is always something new to play.
Super enjoyed this one! I know it's a bit more niche, so please do let me know if you want more vids like this down below! Also, play ULTRAKILL (if you've had your glucosamine)

I got excited because I though they were actually new PS1 games being made by people, only reason I clicked. Title is a little misleading.
Agreed... @@Christian-rn1ur
I really like how some indie games captured the ps1 and other older consoles aesthetic and the gameplay!
thanks, bud! would love to do way more videos like this one!
@@CulturedVultures would like to see more if you find any more interesting indie games, man!(:
Excuse me, Red Dead Redemption is already called "Grand Theft Horse".
Rustler is so fun
I love this idea for the video would love to see more of this!
Fantastic list. I'm hanging out for the physical version of Crow Country.
"Ooom" 😂 reassuringly non a.i narration and curated content for the win, man!!
Awesome list! If you end up doing a sequel, Pseudoregalia’s another sick PS1-like that deserves more love.
it's more like n64, but yeah same generation

Ballistic NG is mandatory for Wipeout fans. It is a worthy successor to the Wipeout series that began on the Playstation.
10:55 RIP Yoshitaka Murayama
King's Field/Shadow Tower fans should definitely try Lunacid.
Great indie gem of a game that perfectly captures old school From Software vibes.
Love this game. It's also has very heavy horror vibes, if you are into that.
Love you jimmy. You the man.

bangers. I did actually make a whole video on Steam hidden gems and that had FMF2 in it, but uhhhh decided not to release it! maybe one day
@8:06 okay I didn't know this game existed, but I LOVED Sega Rally 2, definitely need to grab this! Thank you!!!!!!
Shakedown Hawaii reminds me more about Gangstar: Crime City Java mobile game rather than GTA. Even though both are inspired by GTA
Almost perfect video for me. Save for Eiyuuden and Triangle Strategy.

Pretend Cars Racing, it's like a micromachines for NES but multiplayer and "modern"
Prodeus is a 3D FPS with a filter you can toggle.

Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is another good modern homage to SOTN, despite being based on the totally unrelated Record of Lodoss War franchise.

a video on actual demakes could be pretty fun... 🤔
Let’s go boyz!

Enter Electro totally holds up.
I wonder why no one seems to have "The Seventh Warrior" on their radar.

If you’re looking for PlayStation 2 graphics, there’s Nightrunners: Prologue, a street racing game with heavy references to the PlayStation 2.
A complete missed opportunity to call it 'Kart Souls'!
Triangle Strategy is amazing
nice! looks like the shakedown hawaii game is 80% off ($4) on steam for the next few days
