Within the first minute of his talk, he said something so profound. "Never believe a prediction that doesn't empower you." I love this so much. And he outlived ALL of his doctors! Love it.

My father and I were both born with the same birth defect as Sean. In so many ways he reminds me of my dad both in personality and it looks. Rest in peace Sean and please hug my dad in heaven for me.

Once I got out of jail, I immediately became a victim of my own self hatred. I realized my mind was the most dangerous place to be. This man is pure. His talk has really opened up the barriers I put in front of myself.
I am fine locked up. I can turn my mind off. I guess it's because the lack of control over circumstances . As soon as I'm out...beating myself up like I owe me money.

Hands down the best Ted Talks ever! Rip Sean.
I was in a special ed program. In my senior of highschool, I was told by the career counselor that I was not smart enough to go to college. It took me 10 years, but I graduated with a bachelor's in political science. Seeing this guy tells me that there are other people that are worse off, but he has done well because of his awesome attitude about overcoming his disability. He is an inspiration.

What inspires me is someone sharing his/her story and just leaves it at that, letting me do the rest of the work.

I find this talk very inspirational, although the core message is as old as humans exists.
He died of a traumatic head injury and his wife reported that his last words before dying were: "This didn't happen to me. This happened *for* me."
Even as he died, he made the choice to accept that experience positively. I find that deeply inspiring, and something I want to take on and practice in my own life. "Dropping down out of that (pitying, critical) mind and into your heart."
Once you learn to stop feeling sorry for yourself and beating yourself up and start living your life, it's much better and so beautiful..

I struggle with major depression and sometimes I get so stuck in the bad but after he said that i realized nothing in this life is permanent things change..this man was a gift to us from God all Almighty…r.I.p. I also suffer from major depression which kept me back. When you listen to men like him gives you new energy to accomplish things and Love.
I know one of the main messages here was not to feel sorry for or pity others but I definitely think an exclusion applies to those who gave this a thumbs down!

I just came upon this video for the second time after a long time and it moved me beyond words again. I am sad to learn that he passed, and I imagine him free and happy back to his Creator in the great Universe, where I want to believe that someday I will have the joy to meet him. His words are very inspiring. I have no words to express the emotions he inspires me. What a beautiful human being. One heck of a great MAN! He delivered some priceless knowledge in that speech. I feel extremely fortunate to have heard his message. I've been a physical prisoner before. Confined behind bars and walls. That was pretty awful but what was worse was the prison I remained in after my release. It has taken some time for me to escape the negative self image and to stop beating myself up. I'm determined to be better at being me each day and to try to love my fellow man unconditionally. Each day is a gift and a choice.

@StraightUpTruth That's a great point. I've always prioritized happiness over success. I know I'll be successful without ambition. But, I do tend to prioritize other's happiness over my own. It's a work in progress to level the scale in that topic. Very wise advice.

This is probably the most useful Tedx talk I have ever seen. No pun intended but this guy does not present with the massive ego of the typical TED X host. I agree with his line of thinking about life and I would just add one thing I have picked up over the years. Treat every experience you have with another human being as a learning experience. So many people go through life thinking they don't need to learn from others that they deem to be in a "lower station" in life. The doctor often thinks that the patient can't teach him and the social worker thinks the client doesn't possess any nuggets of wisdom. In regards to that line of thinking, I would like you all to think of the old adage "even a broken clock is right two times each day". When we stop thinking of ourselves so much we really start to see so much more beauty in the world.

I did not realize he was speaking to prisoners until the very end!

Happiness and success means to me being able to end each day saying “I am happy, and I am proud of myself”. I have reached happiness by learning that happiness is a matter of a state of mind and is enjoying the path, not a destiny. Once you understand this and learn to live with yourself, happiness will not depend on the circumstances and it will not be able for anyone or anything in life to drag your essence and happiness down.
