Fantastic Video as always Chris..the best part was the addition of the compressor on the long verb to make the tail of the verb pop out and sustain..Thanks again for the lovely tip
Just Vocals and Guitars. What a beautiful track! I was actually able to hear the subtleties of mixing in this video where as it's very hard to hear compression etc. in busy tracks. Really helpful for beginners like me. Thanks you very much!
Merci Chris pour cette vidéo. Tes explications sont toujours aussi claires et ta passion pour le son leur donne en plus ce côté très vivant qui fait la différence.
Thank you, Chris; this was one of your best videos - full of useful tips regardless of which DAW anyone's using. I love the ping pong delay on the reverb tail, nice idea for mono sound sources I think. Rex's performance was very enjoyable too - always nice to have a talented musician to work with!
Chris that was fun, great sounding mics. I love using reverence it's my main go to reverb. One thing I like doing is using the reverse verb 1 or 2 depending on what I'm looking for that is available inside reverence and blend (very subtle) with the first verb in the chain. To me it helps add weight to the vocal. I also like to add around a 35 to 45 millisecond delay so the verb isn't right on top of the vocal. Btw I pretty much mirror everything you do here, because of the education you have given me..........A BiG Ol' THANK YOU ❤️
Chris, you said you added the high -and lowpass filter BEFORE the reverb (Abbey Road trick?), but shouldn't the Insert and Strip tab be the other way around in that case for the correct signal flow?
I have to record several singer/songwriters this way. The biggest problem I encounter with this method though is if the singer doesn't have great pitch control it's virtually impossible to use Vari Audio. I will say the Waves Clarity VX plugin works quite well to isolate the guitar bleed from the vocal allowing you to tune the vocal vocal
Very nice video, Chris. It seems to me that sometimes a track with few elements can be the trickier ones to mix, but you have done a tremendous work, very subtle but very precise nonetheless. And congrats to Rex as well, very touching song, beautifully interpreted. Keep up the amazing work
I have a deadline in 2 days..can you help please!! I play an electric guitar and I plug into a Fender Mustang GTX100 amp...using an XLR plugged in my amp to the audio interface. I NEED TO RECORD VOCALS AND GUITAR AT THE SAME TIME. I have cubase pro 13, how do I make all this happen? Whats the input/ output for the guitar? If I put a mic on the amp?
Thanks for the video..but how was it for the singer? Was there compression, reverb etc on the headphones? If so, how was it sound natural to him without latency problem? Greetings
I did his monitoring outside Cubase using my AXR4 interface software (DspMixFx) so I was also able to give him Reverb through the interface's DSP, so no latency.
It depends on the artist and the song you're working on, but I do prefer recording them separately, for better control. That can be good for a demo song or several songs all together, where time is limited, but you want to keep a good quality.
That’s why it’s a “performance” recording….. This artist will play the guitar and sing the song differently I he was to record the guitar first and then the vocals. Doesn’t it would be worse or better. It will be different.
What an awesome singer and a beautiful song!
Perfect and the fact that everything is done with stock plugins, makes is it even better.
Thanks for sharing with us!

YOU'RE WELCOME ANDY :-) I'll have to try the reverse verb on this, that looks pretty cool! Thanks andy!
He Chris, watching your great video I also got to really like Rex's wonderful song. Just beautiful.
It's a nice song indeed! Glad you enjoyed it

That always works well with a very good singer. Pitch correction will definitely not work well. Never tries Clarity VX in this situation though
Great video, Chris, as always. I'd like to see a more in-depth video of you mixing acoustic guitar. Cheers!
Noted! Thanks for watching!
Nice one Chris. Always thought inspiring. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it

@@mixdownonline really appreciate your quick response. Take care and all the best.
Good good
Thanks
Would it be best to record guitar and vocals separately, to eliminate bleed completely? Or is this the way most would so it?
It depends on the artist and the song you're working on, but I do prefer recording them separately, for better control.
