I've always thought this too! From 1962 onwards he looks nothing like the photographs from Hawthorne High or his earlier childhood. Then again in 75-82 he didn't even resemble the 62-75 incarnation. Three relatively different looking facial structures. It wasn't until 87-92 did his facial structure resemble his youth again, his jawline became so defined again. He looked weirdly different again after 1992, for example if you watch him in the special with Mike Love or even the Don Was documentary. Around 1998- he became more defined again around the cheeks and jawline and to this day looks as you would have expected him to based on his Hawthorne High pictures.

Plus, Landy became his musical and business partner, which a doctor/therapist isn‘t allowed to do and which led to Landy losing his license in California. There is revealing interview on yt in which a female reporter confronted Landy with the accusations of unethical behaviour and Landy was evasive and in the end helpless and couldn’t find justifications for his actions.
I always listened to 60s rock & roll, and loved the music of James Taylor, but by far, Brian Wilson conveyed a sense of happiness in a midst of complicated issues while finding my way as a 12 yr old! It was like medicine & inspiration. Dont know if I ever found my way, but thank God 4 the Genious.

Brian was very coherent in this interview, and even said some little nuggets of brilliance. It's sad now knowing what was going on in the background during this era (Landy). But nonetheless, Brian Wilson is a fantastic album, even if Landy took way more credit for it than he deserved. Landy DID become more involved with Sweet Insanity, which is why it is a far inferior album and was never officially released. I have it and while it has some highlights, it's still a depressing listen for the most part.
That album is largely unlestenable to me. It's clear Brian didn;t produce it and other than "Love and Mercy" the songs are horrible. I may give it another listen but I doubt I'll change my mind.
In 1981 I spoke to Brian Wilson for 20 minutes in his hotel room before a show: he was massively overweight and coked up but he was also completely lucid and clear-headed. He had complete recall of music he had recorded. Then I started to see interviews with Brian after he had spent a few years under Gene Landy's" care" and it was so sad and disappointing to me. Brian looked great which seemed to take the focus off the things he was trying to say and how he was saying them. He seemed more confused and damaged then when I spoke to him in 1981. I don't think he ever recovered from Landy's "care".

The complete command & leadership he had, not even speaking to the music, just him as a brother, son, husband etc. His enormous, unparalleled talent has always come through, no matter the stage of his life. But I’ve rarely, if ever seen that Brian again. That Brian would’ve eaten Eugene Landy for breakfast, & that’s only if he could’ve been bothered with him at all

He was unethical, mentally and possibly physically abusive to Brian who was just always a fragile guy...he did ultimately save his life(cuz he would've had a heart attack between the food and all the coke he was doin) but he caused alot of psychological trauma to Brian as well. I had the privilege of seeing the man himself last Saturday with his band, Al and Blondie...they upgraded our seats cuz of a technical error they had... I was 50 ft from Brian... It was great and also kinda sad, he was using a walker and had a escort to his piano.. I don't think he played a note but boy did he give it his all vocally... I mean for 79 yrs old he still rocked !! And Al's son Matt...man he sings Brian's falsetto sooo damn good.
Brian was helped to an extent by Dr. Landy who was a psychologist and not a psychiatrist. Unfortunately, it appears from a distance that Dr. Landy became consumed by Brian’s celebrity and lifestyle and stayed far too long in the situation.. There is an old saying that someone can stay at the fair too long meaning you stay in a situation beyond it’s expiration date. It did not have to end badly with Brian Wilson for Dr. Landy but he has no one to blame but himself for how his relationship with Brian ended. I think Dr. Landy did do some good with Brian but he did not know when to wrap it up.
I just watched Love and Mercy last night. It was a very good biopic. While Landy might have done a few good things for Brian in the beginning, he ultimately was going to destroy him and he went so far as to even have access to Brian’s estate should anything have happened to him. I’m so glad his wife Melinda took action to get Landy away from him. Good for her. He she not done that, Brian would have died a long time ago.

He had Brian change his will and leave him everything in it. He was living in Brian's house while Brian stayed in a small apartment. He kept Brian on medications that damaged his brain way worse than the drugs of the 60's did (watch 80's Brian vs 90's Brian). Landy deserves all the hate he gets

Even though Landy extorted him, he did help physically improve him so well.
Landy didn't help him , he drugged him up so he could extort him and let everyone believe he was helping him. Landy was a con artist.

The Boys had Brian, but you had John Phillips, who, had he not destroyed himself with drugs, could have rivalled The Beach Boys & The Beatles, easily. EASILY. Landy did a phenomenal job with Brian and Brian was never the same after Landy departed. Perhaps he violated some rules working with a client as far as business concerns but I think people trash him otherwise unnecessarily.
He had Brian change his will and leave him everything in it. He was living in Brian's house while Brian stayed in a small apartment. He kept Brian on medications that damaged his brain way worse than the drugs of the 60's did (watch 80's Brian vs 90's Brian). Landy deserves all the hate he gets
