The worst part about Landy is how he tied himself to Brian's improvement in both physical and mental health (which is why he ended up being so influential over brian). By giving Brian structure, exercise, and a good diet, and giving him an outlet to express and confront his trauma, he improved Brian's mental state tenfold and made him undeniably a happier person. HOWEVER, Landy did one of the most disgusting things imaginable by making Brian see these very simple solutions as something only Landy could give him (hence the influence). He tricked Brian into believing that without him, he would go back to feeling as shitty as he was before, even though that would simply not be the case if he continued to diet, exercise, avoid the stress of the music industry, and went to talk therapy (if he felt he needed an outlet). Landy ultimately was good at improving people's mental states, especially from a biochemical perspective, however, he abused his methods to gain sole influence and manipulate his patient in order to improve his personal life as well as to enact his power-fantasy of puppeteering an artist, and maybe even becoming an artist himself in some vicinity (hence why he continuously refers to himself as an "artist within his field,") it's clear that Landy had failed dreams he was trying to enact through his relationship with Brian. The most sickening part? You can tell Brian understands that something is not right with the situation he's in, he can tell that not being able to see his family is wrong, and he can even tell that he's in a prison. However because he's so deathly terrified of falling back into that deep depression he was in, he was helpless to cast out Landy on his own. The moral of the story? If someone says they're trying to help you, even if they do end up improving your mental and physical states, never let them make you believe that only they had the key. EVERYONE has it within themselves to improve, its a matter of knowing what to do and being free enough to actually do it. Glad Landy is dead.
I think Landy just wanted him to get fit so Brian could uphold his end of the contract (unbeknown to Brian) which is why Landy was so militant about it. Landy wanted results from Brian and the sooner he did that the sooner Landy could be seen as someone worth something.

I heard say one of Landy's patients accused him of rape she didn't say whether the patient was male or female, another thing I noticed is that in alot of these pictures Landy seems to be awfully touchy feely with Brian, Landy had Brian under lock and key for almost 10 years, that's a long time for any man to be deprived of the society of women. I hope my suspicions are wrong, but it sure looks to me that Landy took advantage of Brian more than just financially. Any thoughts?
Landy unethically went far beyond the patient/doctor relationship, while brian did need extraordinary type treatment to cure his severe addictive behaviors, the 9 yrs. (not quite 10) with Landy was well beyond what he needed. If you're suggesting some kind of sexual relationship, I don't think so, while Brian did say he was bisexual in his first book, I still don't think Landy went there. Also, Brian was not deprived of women, he dated women when he was with Landy but he was always under observation by Landy's handlers, ostensibly to make sure Brian didn't slip in his sobriety though obviously 9 yrs. of that was way too much. Landy really didn't want Brian to meet a woman that might take Brian away from him. Ultimately it did happen when Brian met Melinda, she was a strong caretaker type woman and Brian needed a strong figure like that in his life. Landy knew she was a threat and hated her, he tried to discourage the relationship but Brian was in more control than even he wanted to admit, when he decided to go with Melinda there was really nothing Landy could do. But yeah, landy didn't just exploit Brian financially, he exploited him emotionally and creatively by working with him on his music. The intervention phase of treatment should have lasted maybe a year at the most and then support therapy a few more years maybe but Landy intertwined his life with Brian for his own selfish reasons. Landy was an ass, but he did save Brian's life and cured him of his addictive behaviors which set him on the road to a long healthy life, so I think I'll cut him some slack.
Because Brian was an adult and chose to stay with Landy. However, Landy did use his influence as a professional therapist to influence Brian, which was unethical. I have read both of Brian's biographies and my takeaway is that Brian was complicit with Landy's unethical control methods but Landy was the professional and it was his responsibility to not let a patient/doctor relationship go past a certain point. So he was the one in the wrong and bore responsibility. But Brian was deeply in addictive behaviors and difficult to treat, Landy's methods did not only clean him up and get him into shape but permanently got him out of his addiction patterns. Did not give him a right to exploit Brian, but he did save his life and set him on the road to a long productive life when by all rights, he should have OD's in the 80's. Also, one thing people don't realize is that legal action was taken against Landy but it wasn't until Brian decided to disassociate with him that happened. And that happened when Brian met Melinda. She was a strong caretaker type woman with whom Brian was able to reallocate his need for a strong figure in his life. Brian had dated other women when he was with Landy but none of them were like Melinda and Landy hated her, he knew she was going to take Brian away, which she did. But it was an appropriate relationship and she's been very good for him.
So sad to know how all those people just took adventage from this man including Murry leaving the poor man with all those psychological problems, happy to know Brian is still alive

This is sad.. Never realized it was this bad. I always thought of Landy as like a greedy Col Parker or something. Maybe that's what he wanted to be portrayed as, the tough but successful manager. But it's a whole other situation when you consider Brian's mental state through out the late 70's-early 80's.

i just ..how did the school not help brian when his dad beat him. there must have been marks on his body and the neighbors must have heard his dad beating the kids. the good old days were not so good. the doctor assaulted a patient and no charges against him. and what the hell his family couldnt talk to him or come to the house for 9 years...the family is just as screwed up as any of this story. poor thing is so sweet and everyone left him to the wolves. i would go hide in my bed too . not one person was held responsible for the torture of brian.
@@JustinEdwords The problem wasn't corporal punishment. It was that it was excessive and often used as form.of hazing for standing up against bullies I hear back in the good old days that school bullying was endorsed by adults. Landy stating that the interviewers points about him negotiating business ventures with brian in his 1894 contract and him exploiting Brain are “valid” just enrages me. Even as little as brain not wanting to know how much he pays Landy each year yet still maintaining that Landy is what’s best for him shows a man in denial but has, who he feels, no one else to turn too. I think that may have been me, or Alan C. And we also took Brian on to campus and he played a piano in the dorm coffee shop. I am not sure anyone walking by knew it was him! The whole Dr. Landy thing was a long, complicated, story...
giggleherz It's something... Sharing a certain memory from around 1984 And someone on the internet extends and validates it. It takes me back to 1984.... It takes me forward to the book 1984.
On a lighter note, that "Brian Wilson- after" photo lol 5:40
This is crazy. It's not the job of the therapist or caretaker to "change the enviornment", it's to give the patient the tools necessary to "change the enviornment." This guy is a sociopath.
0:18 I burned my brain out, my brain got burned out
After all, it is so sad that people and situations take advantage in the bad way of such a great artist. I just hope Brian will live still many many years, and that he can be creative until his last day ! He's such a lovely cuddly bear , a lovely man , making such a beautifull music all the time (from the 60's until now). At the same time, i'm so glad that he's been honored at many occasions, such as in Kennedy Center , and also by lots of his collegues, Elton John etc , and that Brian has got the occasion to meet Paul McCartney. Great ! All the best Brian, with lots of love and respect from Belgium ! Your music still makes me cry from joy. I'm also a musician, i've seen hours and hours of TH-cam videos and i learned a lot of you. Patrick - born 1960.
Love and Mercy
Eugene Landy died in 2006.
Beachy Keen R.I.P.! Rot in pieces!!!!
Hahahaha
Good
New face in hell
Great news.
So sad this vulture fed off and drained a musical genius for so long. A true evil man.
Amazing how much talent one can have with a fucked up life like his. Sry for the language but this here is a true genius. 1 in a million.
Probably one of the only time Mike Love was right.
Had Dr. Landy been able to maintain more of a professional distance he would have been hailed for his professional skills. But tv shows like this one as well the Brian Wilson bio pic show that Dr. Landy was too involved.
0:32 Those kind of cool Landy mullets are coming back with a vengeance again in Sweden it´s like that.
The ONE thing Brian was fearful of is exactly the parasite Landy was. A sad irony. How odd Brian has been more active & prolific since the passing of Landy....
This is so interesting. Does anybody has more information on where this report comes from ? Its date of publishing ? The news channel which produced it ? Thanks in advance everyone.
Great video
There's a nasty high pitch sound in this video. :-/
Just had a nightmarish interpretation of Mike Loves continung inner monologue after his statement at 6.17min:
"I think Landy thinks that Brian is the goose who laid the golden egg..... but really it was me....*chuckles*. Landy you got the wrong man, tihihihi, come and get me, tihihihihi..."
Mike Love: I may be a Bad Guy, but I’m not a BAD GUY. C’mon Eugene, there’s a limit bro.
Woah... i have had a moment when in such a vulnerable state, a good, decent human being mentored me in almost precisely the same way (minus the dieting which i was already doing. Never had weight issues ).
It did help me...it broke me down, to a point, no lower was emotionally, physically possible... which when you emerge, not dead [you are not going to die, but you may even often...feel.like you will. *YOU WON'T* ]
i was transformed, and rebuilt into a real man, complete with coping skills, and no real.fear left.
And nothing to lose, but time.

15:47 stumped him
I want to see the Landy recordings that he did of Brian Wilson . Do they still exists?

.....
.....
.......
yes...
Omg 11:45-12:00 I feel you Brian
Why didn’t someone bring legal action against Landy during 8 years?
I think Landy did do Brian some good. Obviously he lost a ton of weight and got him off drugs. I'm sure
Well, anyone going to a concentration camp will lose weight and get off drugs. Read about what happened, and you will probably change your mind.
@@geoycs I have been a student of World War 2, and I've read about the death camps set up by Germany under the Hitler regime.
So sad to know how all those people just took adventage from this man including Murry leaving the poor man with all those psychological problems, happy to know Brian is still alive
At least Brian didn't have to undergo electroshock therapy like Lou Reed did!
Though having Murray and Landy in his life must have been almost as bad.
Who can say Landy didn't?
That guy is a monster.
10:03 that's definitely Melinda, who later became Brian's wife. Her and Carl were able to get Landy out of the picture.
The anonymous individual was Melinda
Did Landy ever have a consequence?
What year is this!??
I hate it when they don't put that up....
1991
Guys...Maybe you can help me out. I am doing a Biology paper on parasites for school. The first thing I did was look up the definition in the dictionary. But there was no definition...Just a big picture of this guy...Hmmmmmm.......
Landry did get his weight down the only thing he did for him
BRIAN did that!
By drugs and starvation.
11:45 Whooo says it all... This Dr. was like an all nighter with Mountain Dews and Expressos... Yeah... some erratic work gets done but all that caffeine and sleep deprivation take more than they give... Dr. Landy looks like the 35 year old guy who marries the 89 year old Oil Heiress...
I didn't that cocaine was called Mountain Dew and Expressos.
Its all so sad😢
How was none of this in the Disney "documentary"
Norman mailer wrote the best book I ever read... The Executioner's Song
This is sad.. Never realized it was this bad. I always thought of Landy as like a greedy Col Parker or something. Maybe that's what he wanted to be portrayed as, the tough but successful manager. But it's a whole other situation when you consider Brian's mental state through out the late 70's-early 80's.
Why are people hating on mike love?
Mike Love' Oh' he Was an ''Ego'ist' or''Common Garden ''Big Head. You Wouldn't Like him, and He Already hates You.,,, ask almost anyone that! 'probably. 'if you Like.
He didn't get Brian's genius and just wanted to make pop shit.
@@c.lv.8623 thick, received-opinion bullshit
Wow.........what a evil person Landy was....and poor Brian Wilson!
i just ..how did the school not help brian when his dad beat him. there must have been marks on his body and the neighbors must have heard his dad beating the kids. the good old days were not so good. the doctor assaulted a patient and no charges against him. and what the hell his family couldnt talk to him or come to the house for 9 years...the family is just as screwed up as any of this story. poor thing is so sweet and everyone left him to the wolves. i would go hide in my bed too . not one person was held responsible for the torture of brian.
back in those days corporal punishment was looked the other way many times, sadly
@@JustinEdwords
The problem wasn't corporal punishment. It was that it was excessive and often used as form.of hazing for standing up against bullies
I hear back in the good old days that school bullying was endorsed by adults.
Kids could get away with almost killing their peers from beat downs or swirlies.
Amd adults still think bullying is just harmless cartoon physics.
It’s honestly sad how blatantly obvious it was Brain was being abused, even in that interview he seems partially catatonic and unable to string two thoughts together. Honestly sad that this was allowed to air, it’s good that it exposed Landy’s abuse but at the same time this was DURING the abuse
There's a little bit of good in the worst of things and a little bit of bad in the best of things. TYG Brian Lives. Saw him at The Fabulous Forum summer 2022 first row. Miraculous! ☀️🌺🌴🌊 Mahalo ke akua. In the same manner reading a menu will not satisfy hunger, neither can dedicating life force energy to evaluating people places and things replace getting busy enjoying them. Poor Richard's Almanac said something along the line of: Any fool can criticize and complain - and most of them do.
To try and say Mike Love is Brian’s “Co-writer” is ridiculous.
But he is…
@@JustinK6664 Mike love songs were Basically Chuck Berry songs
Landy and his heavy psychotropics and antipsychotics probably did most of the damage to Brian
11:52 the best part
Remember that episode of South Park with that "little person" that Cartman cant stop laughing at. That's who Landy reminds me of :)
Brian Wilson talks about psychopath Eugene Landy
Britney Spears the same with her father.
The last three minutes are insane to watch. This guy is so transparently evil holy shit
Brian is not evil
Landy's body language is not that of a truthful person.
Landy acts like the record producers now
Stalker vibes coming from Landy. Like an obsessed fan 😳😳😳
WOnder how come Brian Wilson started talking out of the side of his mouth. Almost looks like he had a stroke or something.
I never knew that Brain, the greatest song writer of all times, was so screwed-up.
Because of the evil Landy.
I feel sorry for Brian, although he was very self indulgent in the early days re drug use, obviously an amazing talent, love his music ❤️
It's a matter of instinct
It's a matter of conditioning and a matter of fact
You can call me Pavlov's Dog
Ring a bell and I'll salivate
How'd you like that?
Dr. Landy tell me you're not just a pedagogue
'Cause right now I'm lying in bed
Just like Brian Wilson did~
When a richman gets rich, his biggest fear is family or friends will kill him to take away his sucess, money, power and or fame.
Bit like Britney's relatives
According to Wilson, Landy saved his life. How much is a life worth?
Landy looks like tim Allen
This is soooo fucked that it was only like 10/15 years ago?! It was happening so blatantly, how was there now more intervention
this was around the early / mid 80’s so it was around 35 years ago
