Whatever Chevy did to their brakes after 2018, they royally screwed them up. My truck brakes failed at 39000 kms. Wouldnt warranty, quoted me 2400 to do the brakes so I did them myself with no repair mode available on my 2020 u til a recent firmware update. Truck went into limp mode, thousands to repair, took a month to get warranty.
Then recently my fronts went and I was able to somehow clear the codes manually after doing them without the repair mode by messing with the battery. Unplug and wait 48 hours. Was a nightmare.
Then some idiot ripped my pad wear sensor and half of my harness right off the truck in some sort of vandalism. What a nightmare.
So i finally tracked down all the parts I needed and watched this video along with using a new topdon bt scan tool.
This video saved my butt. Thanks a bunch. So many limp modes and code nightmares. Thousands of dollar in headaches.
So, thank you for the step by step video. Engine running was probably a key step too that many were messing up after the update.
Ps, my truck would not enter brake repair mode until the last firmware update. For years there was no way to manually enter brake service mode.
Tried it this time after watching your video and it worked first try.
Bam! Worth a case a beer to ya for posting this.

I was searching for this video little more than two month ago. After replacing front brakes and rotors, got limp mode ,check engine light, service brake system message, and no brake booster.Deleted check codes with Launch, one by one, limp mode and messages gone itself, but still have check popping up every week or two since..Now I'm not scary to replace rear ones.Thank you very much.
P.C. I'm not greedy person, but really cannot agree with price for brake service at local dealer, specially if I did this "simple" job since I bought my first car 30 years ago. Thanks again for shearing your experience.

I had the same issue you have to disconnect the battery before you do the front brakes. As soon as you push the pistons into the caliper to put on the new pads it messes with the whole system and the truck freaks out. 2020 Silverado, LTZ.

@@bobmam12 I got the same thing on my 2019 Sierra on the fronts when I changed rotors and pads. I tried taking the negative terminal off the battery for a couple of hours after and tried to reset the codes with my scan tool .... no luck. Had it towed to the dealer. They were able to reset the brake module and get it back to normal. Thought I was saving money by doing the brakes myself as I always used to do. $175 total from the dealership up here in Canada. sucks Next time I'll know to disconnect the battery before starting the job.

Same! 2021 AT4, 100,000km on the truck and it’s in need of a second rear brake replacement. Same thing, pad with sensor is worn right down to nothing and the outboard pad is at 50% at least. Front brakes are still around 75%. Brake monitoring system is junk. Hoping aftermarket pads and rotors this time helps. Braking system is junk. With a heavy load, these “performance brakes” don’t seem to stop the truck well at all. Was starting to wonder if a per portioning valve or something hasn’t worked properly since new and caused the rear brakes to do most the braking as opposed to the front. Glad someone has the same issue as me so I know I’m not the only one!

Isn’t there an electronic motor on the piston like on the bmws you can just remove it and not have to do the service brake thing at all? It spins indefinitely so it doesn’t remember its position ? Isn’t that how this works? Then push the caliper in then stick the motor back on after you are done ? Ya I just googled it exactly the same you take the two torx off pop the motor off then do as usual and put it back and it has no idea anything happened to it.

I changed front pads and RF pad sensor wire on a 2022 1500 3.0L. Now the Brake, ABS, Traction Control, and Engine lights all came on. The brake pedal has to be pushed hard for it to stop, like a power booster went out. And it's in "limp mode" and will not drive over 43mph!
The SnapOn scan tool says must disconnect the Brake Fluid Reservoir Sensor Wire to do a six step sequence for automated bleed. You can barely see it let alone touch it.
I scanned it and tried erasing all the codes but that still didn't help.
Do you have any ideas how to get the brake pedal back to normal, take it out of limp mode and erase all the lights on the dash?

@@slicksilver9441 was actually really easy. I ordered parts offline, got rotors and pads for $165, took about an hour once I was all set up. Make sure you have a bungee cord to hang the calipers once off. You'll need a T30 torx bit to remove the rotor. Soak it with WD30 first, mine was a bit stuck. Follow the brake service mode procedure and your all set. Only thing I didn't do was remove a bit of brake fluid from the reservoir before beginning, mine overflowed when pumping new ones, made a mess lol. Use a big syringe or something to remove some fluid, then when your done, put it back in. I did have to remove my battery cables for about 10 mins to reset the dumb code that came up, but that was it. Doing that will mess up your auto window up/down thing but there's a manual thing you can do to reset it.

Over the years of wrenching I've always found uneven pad wearing like you have normally goes away after you bleed the breaks. You wouldn't think on a brand new truck there would be air in the lines but nothing is impossible.
