      @@GreenHotDogz I’m just saying in reference to Adum’s surprise about all of its nominations. This is one of the rare cases where a movie that comes out today ignites a ton of interest and makes people actually go out to the theater to see more movies. Not to mention it’s genuinely a great film. But the overarching point is that the Academy would be completely idiotic to not nominate EEAAO in everything that they can, considering all of the love that it has gotten and everything it has done to make people interested in movies again (or at least, interesting and artistic films rather than the formulaic Marvel movies and reboots that have been hogging theater space)

I loved how almost every single element played a part in the story, and despite the story being straightforward, there’s so many meanings that you could put in it other than “family good”. I gotta say, this lineup may be the best since the start of the 2010's. If there was ever a year where the Best Picture nominees accurately represented an entire year in film, then this was it. You have big blockbusters, small indies, foreign films, and everything in between here!

      Yeah, the International Feature category ignoring Decision to Leave is a genuine snub and massively disappointing. I honestly thought it was a lock for that at least! Granted, All Quiet on the Western Front has the win for that in the bag anyway, though, given how many nominations it got, including Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.
      I also wanted Decision to Leave to get a duo Director/Best Picture nomination, even if I don't mind the nominees for those two categories as is.
      That said, aside from obvious snubs such as Decision to Leave for International, The Woman King for Actress and Costume Design, Nope for Visual Effects, The Batman and Top Gun: Maverick for Cinematography, most of the lineup this year for most of the categories (except the shorts, I don't care about those) is actually really solid. Best Oscar lineup in my opinion since the one for films of 2019 (the one where Parasite won).

    Just watched Decision to Leave and I feel like it's honestly the best Hitchcock film I've ever seen, that's about the best way I can describe it. Total shame that it got completely locked out, presumably because it wasn't playing on some widely accessible social context and was instead a very intimate and personal investigation of a relationship. Also, I'm annoyed by the fact that anywhere I talk about the film, someone always shows up to go "yeah man Park Chan Wook got robbed dude, just like Jordan Peele, man, Decision to Leave and Nope, bro, two peas in a pod amirite, so wrong how they both got robbed" it's almost comical how many times it's happened to me already.

    • @Ali007572
      @Ali007572 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, Armas is more or less an overglorified bombshelf, she's mediocre at best, she even couldn't change her cuban accent for the role and always played only a caricature of Monroe, like she was on a coctail party and somebody asked her if she would do an impression of Monroe, it definitely isn't oscar-worthy.

    • @thatguyseb8824
      @thatguyseb8824 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Ali007572 I mean I don't think she's bad, she was just horribly miscast in that movie. She's honestly pretty good in the right role but this clearly wasn't it and her nomination is obviously due to it being a biopic about a famous person which the Academy loves to honour even when they're shit.

    • @Ali007572
      @Ali007572 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thatguyseb8824 Well, yes, she can be good, but I honestly don't think, that she's better than the average, she's more or less overglorified because of her looks and "cuteness". I didn't want to put her down, but imho she isn't anything special really.
      But it isn't exactly a biopic per se, because it's a historical fiction, it's based on a book that was written by some lady and that was some NY times bestseller (or something like that). On the contrary, yes, it's miscast, even when you do something like this and it's fiction, it still has a base in the history, so even when they made up things that don't exactly belong there, Monroe should've been played by somebody who looks and can behave like her. I would never imagine, that if you ask me "who can play Monroe?" - the answer would be Armas, I would honestly laugh at that.
      I really don't like this "trend" that you cast somebody who on the first glance doesn't look the part and he/she has to convince you that he/she can play the part.
      F.e. I don't buy Pattinson's Batman aka "Battinson", or Craig's version of Bond who is basically a variation on Jason Bourne and not an OG Bond.
      I would like that if they cast somebody in some known role, he should fit and look the part, the acting performance is also important but all of these atributes should be balanced in a more harmonious way, not just in the way that the he/she can act.
      (sorry for the long comment)

Gabrielle Labelle i found to be mediocre in his role, there were hints of jewish discrimination that didn't really have evoke any emotion nor was it executed well. Don't really buy the whole michelle williams and paul dano affair with seth rogan. For a movie that really wanted to focus on the theme of pursuing passion, the film lacked passion.
      The technical aspects as well. I thought that part of the reason why its boring is because the score was put on like 2% volume and was a very muted score. Having seen the film, her performance is the only thing worth watching. The rest of it is an Oscar bait flick of a woman overcoming her addiction that has pretty much become a parody on Oscar-type films. You get the feeling like it was solely made for that specific category (Andrea is even listed as one of the executive producers of the flick), and the Academy took the bait.

    'see the name Navalny which might be why its nominated' one method of trying to stay relevant for the Academy is to be topical. It rarely outlasts the era and ends up like a time capsule of the period. One of the few exceptions was Casablanca which won best picture and was obviously topical to the era.
