Hearing y'all talk about Jon always gets me in my mood. He's an wonderful person, and somebody I always wanted to meet. Use to watch everything he was associated with. Rip brother
After the low points of the past few years, the Oscars needs to match the comeback vibe happening elsewhere. The heroism and nostalgic fun of Maverick, the pure originality of Everything Everywhere, the magic of Avatar in theaters, and the sense of excitement for Fraser, Ke Huy Quan, Yeoh, Basset to win an award, is the direction the Academy needs to go this year. The nomination is the honor. The win is the message.
Fraser is not winning Best Actor anymore. It missed Picture, unlike Elvis and Banshees. It's between Butler and Farrell now. And Cate Blanchett has had the Best Actress win locked up for months now. Yeoh is never going to happen.
John Williams received his 53rd nomination for The Fablemens. If he can get just 7 more before he either retires or dies, he will break the all time record for most Oscar nominations for a single person (alive or dead), which is currently held by the one and only Walt Disney. I hope he can do it. He will probably get another nomination next year for his Indy 5 score too.
Not to sound like a comic book nerd, but I'm surprised The Batman wasn't nominated for cinematography or original score. The dark, noir style that Greig Fraser went with was excellent, and it would have been a great follow-up nomination after his win for Dune.
I agree with the score comment. I’ve listened to all of the nominees, and quite frankly Michael Giacchino outperforms all of those scores with the Batman. Just my opinion, of course.
@thebortthe same here. I've actually listened to Giacchino's score on repeat. While John Williams is the master and did great work on the Fablemans, no other score outshined the Batman enough to where it couldn't get a nomination.
Hey John and crew, it seems that you're having lots of fun and laughter lately. That team chemistry hits! That's authentic and I love it. Keep it up. Way to go!
Just want to correct John. He keeps giving Halle Berry credit that she was the first person to ever attend the Razzies to accept her award. Two people did it years before she did it. Paul Verhoeven in 1996 was actually the first person to ever attend the ceremony and get his award for Show Girls and Tom Green did it in 2002 for Freddy Got Fingered.
One of the better nomination groups we've had in recent years. Two of my favorite movies are nominated for best picture (Top Gun and Tar), and out of my top 10, 5 movies are nominated in this category (I haven't seen Women Talking, and the only weak nominee is Triangle of Sadness). But all in all, we have two blockbusters - Top Gun and Avatar. Elvis and Everything Everywhere All At Once are also crowd pleasers, and The Batman and Black Panther also got a lot of nominations. At the same time they didn't forget to promote great dramas like Tár or The Fabelmans. The biggest snub was Decision to Leave, which should have garnered nominations for best picture, foreign language film, cinematography, actress and/or screenplay ... and got nothing. And Viola Davis, who may not have won for The Woman King, but should have been nominated instead of Anna de Armas. And Top Gun Maverick for cinematography of course. But it's nice that the excellent Polish film Eo was nominated. Extremely moving, beautifully produced, but also very depressing. For animal lovers, a real thriller that will be hard to see on repeat, but definitely worth seeing once.
I feel so awful that both Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis are out because of CAA's late/sudden surge to push their client. Creative and simple and kudos to them for changing the way award campaigns will run in the future. But for this year, I think it's rather unfair and lowballing. so now I hope with everything that Angela Bassett will win her category.
I'm very surprised that The Weekend didn't get a nomination for best original song for Avatar: The Way of Water for his song Nothing Is Lost. I think it's way better than some of those other nominated songs. Anyway, I hope Lady Gaga wins for her song.
Filmento put out a great analysis praising Top Gun: Maverick titled "How to Make a Movie Without a Villain". And someone in the comments said this: "Bad writing advice: all stories need a villain. Good writing advice: all stories need a *conflict*. Some of the greatest stories are the ones about characters needing to overcome themselves."
Top Gun: Maverick not being nominated for Best Cinematography is absolute BS🤨. That movie was absolutely GORGEOUS and much of it was shot practical with them ACTUALLY flying in jets. That’s probably the biggest snub of the year🤦🏻♂️. That movie straight up deserved to be nominated and win this year💪🏽🛩️
I think what hurt Zoe Saldana was her playing Nina Simone a few years back and receiving backlash for wearing dark makeup to look more African American
Hey guys, checked out the show after Kristian mentioned he'd be on today. Really enjoyed the Oscar conversation, I'd really love for Top Gun Marverick to win best picture!
Listen, I'm not sure about having a genuine chance to WIN ... but I was hoping for these films to receive more nomination love at the Academy Awards: - The Menu (Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor) - Glass Onion (Best Picture) - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Best Score) - The Batman (Best Score, Best Cinematography) - Nope (Best Sound, Best Visual Effects) - Top Gun: Maverick (Best Cinematography) And (from what those are saying): - RRR - Decision to Leave (Best International Feature)
