My only problem with All Quiet on the Western Front is that they changed the ending in a way that makes it seem like they didn’t understand the point of the book. In the book, Paul dies on a random day towards the end of the war and the reports coming in that day state that it is “All Quiet on the Western Front”, he doesn’t die literally moments before the war ended. It makes me wonder if they changed it for the sake of dumb people that don’t read who would probably say something like “That’s it? He just dies? That’s stupid. This isn’t like Saving Private Ryan at all.”
THANK YOU! The movie completely changed the ending of the book. I’m no purist and am usually okay with adaptational changes, but this one was a near-fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. I also didn’t care much for the score; it shouldn’t have won at the Oscars for that, honestly probably shouldn’t have been nominated… Although, I do think the film was very good otherwise. Very potent and powerful piece of filmmaking with masterful cinematography (a well-deserved Oscar win in my opinion), and great sound design and art direction (especially the makeup). It’s two biggest problems for me are the ending, as you said, and the over-bearing score.
@@andrewheaney4874I thought the movie was good but the score definitely was a problem for me too!! I honestly think that the score for All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) is overrated in my opinion. (Sorry to anyone that loved the score for All Quiet.) So of the nominees present, who do you think should’ve won Best Score over All Quiet? Just curious to know.
@@ladyerin9710 yes I agree with you; the score is very overrated! To answer your question, I think Justin Hurwitz’s score for Babylon should have won that Oscar for Score, easily. I also think Babylon should have won Production Design easily. I didn’t love Babylon, but those two aspects were genuinely the best of the year that I had seen. All Quiet’s other two wins are debatably more well-deserved though.
@@andrewheaney4874 Yes thank you very much and I do agree with you!! Even though you didn’t really love Babylon, I loved it with a passion. (It actually was tied with Top Gun Maverick as my favorite film of 2022.) And I agree with the fact that Babylon should’ve won Production Design like come on Oscars really?! However the other two wins that All Quiet got were incredibly well deserved. However, I still can’t get over Babylon losing Best Score to All Quiet. I don’t think I ever will get over it either. And I’m so glad that we agree on who should’ve won Best Score. I feel like All Quiet’s score is just three notes on constant repeat throughput the whole thing with no variety and it feels like a rip off of a great Hans Zimmer score. And there are much better war movie scores such as with Saving Private Ryan and 1917 for example. I still listen to the Babylon score constantly to this day as it’s leagues better than the other nominees for sure. It’s my personal second favorite score ever and of course I will support Justin forever as Justin Hurwitz is actually my favorite composer of all time. It always pumps me up and puts me in a good mood every single time and I always think about it in the best possible way. With All Quiet though, I still think about it on a negative note and I still think it’s a very overrated score in my opinion that was the enemy and nightmare to Babylon. I have this feeling that they didn’t vote for Babylon to win score because people didn’t like the movie and if that’s the case, I’m going to be really angry. Babylon should’ve at least won two awards but I think that Jimmy cursed it with his joke early on in the show. And you know what’s worse? They were playing part of Babylon’s score on commercials to promote the Oscars and they still didn’t give it to Babylon!! (Yeah not kidding by the way.) Sorry if I went on a possible rant but just had to get my opinions out there. That loss affected me deeply and I still haven’t gotten over it to this very day. I don’t think I can forgive the Oscars for snubbing Justin not once but twice (didn’t even get nominated for Best Score in 2019 for his incredible First Man score and now lost Best Score in 2023). (At least thank God he won for La La Land which is not only my favorite score ever but La La Land is also my personal favorite movie of all time.) Hope you relate to this comment and I wonder if you agree with any points in it too.
@@ladyerin9710 that’s all very interesting! Thanks for the comment. I should note that I actually do quite like Babylon, and would probably give it a 7/10, but I wouldn’t have nominated it for Best Picture, and it is my least favorite Damien Chazelle movie that I’ve seen (which to be fair isn’t a bad thing; Whiplash is a masterpiece, La La Land is excellent, and I actually also consider First Man to be underrated!). I agree with what you have to say about the Oscars and Babylon, including the (likely) reason they didn’t award Babylon anything. Yeah, it does seem like it was ignored any wins due to the fact that people just didn’t gel with it; which yeah is pretty frustrating. Yes, the film absolutely should have won Production Design and especially Score. No need to apologize for your long comment, I’m actually glad to hear your take. Take care!
I’m really appreciating the evolution of the avatar’s blocking in these A&P videos. Seeing Adam’s disembodied head staring at Hayek’s tit window while Scoot gets in Gael’s face to congratulate him on the racist joke was hilarious.

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio in my opinion is a legit masterpiece of cinema. Beautiful animation, music, drama and incredibly emotional. The first movie to actually make me cry. Now I've seen Schindler's List and Banshees of Inisherin and that's some sad stuff but this was the first one to make me cry. 10/10. Poor choice of words mate
The phrasing is really unfortunate lol

Guys, I think that phrasing might be on purpose.

Everything Adum wants on male video game character outfits is in JoJo.
I kinda want him to watch JoJo but I know deep down that he'd just get filtered by all the abstract themes and fate stuff and either hate it or be one of those awful people who are like "yeah it's just stupid and gay and funny he he he"
I can actually hear him yelling about how no one drew the same Tarot cards for the Stand names in Part 3. "Oh, so none of them have the same name?! That's convenient!"@@All4Tanuki
Probably my favorite anime of all time.
Nothing in JoJo is as convenient as the idea that stand users inexorably run into each other and nobody cares why.
DIO’s final form in part 3 is a good example that comes to mind
I'm thankful for GDT's Pinocchio winning Best Animated Feature, also his speech was incredible and respectful for the medium of animation. I wish that clip was shown here so it could've been addressed, probably it's in the uncut version of the commentary.
Year of dicks didnt win because it wasnt kid friendly, the other one had cute animals. I 100% think thats why
@@CollegeDroputPowerpoints Have you seen A Year of Dicks?
Fun Fact:
David Byrne, along with Cong Su and Ryuichi Sakamoto, won Best Original Score for 1987’s _The Last Emperor._
Im not convinced that Adam and Shea are two different people. They sound so similar it's scary. I swear Shea is just Adam running to the bathroom, changing his clothes, coming back to the room and pinching his nose a little bit to say something different and Gael and Scott are just completely oblivious to the fact that they've never seen Adam and Shea in the same room together.
I'm so glad Adum appreciated "my year of dicks" I dont hear enough people talk about it but it's a really beautifully made and funny coming of age short film
Furry film better
I am kinda blown away that Turning Red came out last year. Feels like I've been hearing about that movie for years now.
TFW you realize all future Oscars will not feature Scot's Lock of the Week :(
why what happened?

- Michelle Yeoh as Best Actress
- Banshees for Best Director
- Top Gun for Best Editing
- Avatar for Best VFX
- Babylon for Best Score

I hope Shea participate more in Adum and pals. He's really funny
Honestly didnt notice him. You sure it wasnt Adum?
Definitely funny. Hard to tell apart from Adum at first. They sound like Adum making fun of someone who's making fun of his voice
I think she cried at 4:27 because she didn’t know how to pronounce the name. It’s probably wrong but ngl, I wholeheartedly believe that.
Man, it must be a bummer to be Michelle Williams, and you keep having to do a double take the whole awards season when Michelle Yeo wins
It must be a bummer to be Michelle Williams. Period.
true but it would be more of a bummer to be named Adolf Hitler
Hearing Shea is like bringing back a character that was supposedly killed off over 5 seasons ago
For some crazy reason, Adam yelling "burts bees" was the biggest laugh in a very funny video.
Great as always.

Scott’s lock of the week is undefeated
Honestly, Adam's angry "YOU'RE SO ANNOYING" is EXACTLY how I feel about Jimmy Kimmel.
There is no way Jimmy Kimmel doesn't have dirt on the people behind the Oscars, there is no way they can simply cast the most unlikable person to keep hosting this event almost every year.
Probably on some flight-logs.
And now the Marvel VFX artists are even starting to unionize. So much of the movie industry is halted over workers getting fucked over that A24 might be the only movies we get for another year
I'd be fine with that, A24 movies are the only ones I remember after seeing them.
Visual FX Get Cut-Off: Adum is rightfully and appropriately offended and does not let it go, like a good person.
Woman Who Won Documentary Short Gets Cut-Off Before She Can Even Speak: Adum starts looking at shoes 👞👟
I also didn’t care much for the score; it shouldn’t have won at the Oscars for that, honestly probably shouldn’t have been nominated…
Although, I do think the film was very good otherwise.
(Yeah not kidding by the way.)
Sorry if I went on a possible rant but just had to get my opinions out there.
Take care!
The editor absolutely slapped on this, playing with the pngs and all. 6:36 made me choke from laughter
Holy shit, I was just rewatching all the YMS Oscar videos this week and wondering what happened to 2023. But Santa's been! Whoo hoo 🎉
I’m really appreciating the evolution of the avatar’s blocking in these A&P videos. Seeing Adam’s disembodied head staring at Hayek’s tit window while Scoot gets in Gael’s face to congratulate him on the racist joke was hilarious.
This video is the only reason I even know that the Oscars occurred.
I just realized that Adam's floating head reminds me of Frylock. Which made me realize Scoot is also basically Master Shake. And Gael is Meatwad. Shae is Dr. Weird.
