I looked up the production of Supernova and it's basically Justice League before Justice League. First, the original director wanted to do something grotesque and disturbing while the studio wanted to do something hip and sexy. Then they did a test screening before the effects were finished, it went so bad that the director walked away from the project. After that, the studio hired another director who did reshoots and re-editing. That had another test screening that went better, but MGM had a corporate shakeup that wasn't happy with the new screening. The studio gave the original director 5 million dollars worth of reshoots and more time, but he still refused. Then Francis Ford Coppola (of all people), re-edited the film AGAIN, with yet another negative test screening. The studio then tried to sell the film but they instead released it in January 2000, two years later than initially planned. It bombed at the box office and was critically panned, with only 14.8 million made with a 90 million dollar budget and a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the studio Ghibli film "Secret Life of Arrietty", the little people referred to themselves as borrowers, taking small amount of things from the large homes in which the establish their small ones.
