I have medium colour wooden cabinets for the last 10 years and I still love it. The back splash is light beige marble design and off white walls with black granite countertops in a parallel kitchen with a separate sink area. White cabinets are too cold for me and I am scared of committing to colour as I think I might get over it in a year or two. My in laws moved from white cabinets to grey and I can see how the kitchen looks so dark and dim while my parents moved from light grey to light wood which feels light and airy

My mothers kitchen was pale pink and it was wonderful! I am surprised at how people are so afraid of using color. I choose the colors most pleasing to ME! It is my kitchen, after all.
I agree. Unless you're short-term flipping, paint the colors you like. I'm not gonna live in a neutral toned home for decades because I plan to sell it someday.

I’m from the same generation and 100% agree with you. I cringe when I see the avocado and harvest gold we adored back in the day. It seems to me that the creams and light beiges are really just white after a good night’s sleep. I think they can be mixed together really creatively.

I agree, I remember the avocado green and mustard colours in the 70s, they soon became too much. From years of experience the fixed items in kitchens, bathrooms and laundrys are very expensive to replace. Economically it's best to keep them basic and bring colours in in the paintwork, throws, towels, cushions, curtains, artwork etc.
I love my beautiful white cabinets, large handles and gorgeous solid black honed countertops. I have had many types of cabinetry. Finally, I have a classic perfect kitchen.
As someone who used to mix paint the 3 most difficult colors to color match were grays, beiges and oddly enough, greens. Keep your paint color names, samples and brand names in a safe place!

I'm house hunting and I cringe everytime I see the owners have painted the wood cabinets. Most people don't do a good job and they are streaky and the doors stick trying to open them. I'm much happier seeing kitchens with natural wood cabinets.

We built in 2016. I used to work at Sherwin Williams for about 3 years and had my own faux finish/interior painting business for about 12 years. My motto for my own home is NO WHITE WALLS and NO WHITE CABINETS LOL!!! I love color. My own color choices are watery blue greens. We have an open concept house so the living, kitchen and dining are all one big room. We have maple cabinets with a coordinating quartz countertop and SW Meander Blue walls. We are in our 70's and pretty traditional. I had to kind of chuckle when you mentioned not relying on the name. We have a guest room and bathroom painted SW Cachet Cream. You would think that's an off white. But It's a buttery yellow color. I'm kind of surprised that the sages have hung on so long. You wouldn't believe how many gallons of SW Clary Sage I mixed while working at the store from 2002-2005 and used in my own business. Accessible Beige and many of the Greige colors were popular even back then. I have my own paint chip fan deck and choose my colors from that.
I just remodeled my white kitchen and just tweaked the white cabinets to Greek villa SW, it is a classic that never goes out of style. It is gorgeous. White on white was probably over done but white cabinets will always be in style.

So I went to the paint store, turned my arm over, and selected paint that matched the color of the pale skin under my forearm. The clerk came over to help me and was delighted with the idea. Since I'm a white person who was once a golden-haired urchin, the color is a pinky-yellow whitish neutral.

Pam here…I had a white kitchen…no money for new. I painted my walls Warm Muffin by Behr Paints. It is a golden yellow that made everything POP and SPARKLE. It was essentially a neutral. I could do sage greens, grey blues, burgundies, eggplant colors with it. I don’t know the precise undertone in Warm Muffin…but I have used it for 15 plus years and people keep asking me what it is and Home Depot still has the formula and still makes it for anyone who asks for it.

I love beige walls with woodwork with wood floors and warm earth tones of nature on everything else. It goes well with stone fireplace walls. I reside in the country side in a cozy home with earth tones, which goes well with the scenery.
I have fond memories of the all-white kitchen in my first apartment. It was clean and bright and my collection of cobalt blue glasses really made it pop. I plan to paint my current kitchen before the end of the year and am leaning towards putty simply because that color works with the existing white appliances and I'm working with an open floor plan with a lot going on in the kitchen/living room space.
White kitchens will always be classic. Add your trendy colors via accessories, wall paint and other details that can easily be swapped out, but never ever be told by the fickle design community that white kitchens are out.

The picture of the kitchen that everybody loves is beautiful because of the ceiling if you took away that warm wood ceiling that kitchen would fall completely flat. I get frustrated with designers who are talking about color and then show us rooms with architectural details that the rest of us can’t even afford.
There will always be white kitchens. Colour is great until it isn’t and colour trends come and go but kitchens that cost 20-30 thousand dollars are not so easily changed out when designers decide on the new colour trends.

I grew up in a farmhouse and it was not white. Neither were my neighbors. We lived on a working farm. We all had wood stove and old coal stoves that meant black everywhere Old stoves means smoke and black on the walls and ceiling. No no white ! I don’t know where the farm house was white they were not. Pale yellow pale blue or just wood cabinets that were natural color wood. Every thing had to be washable. Fresh paint in the spring. Of course white appliances until the olive green or gold. Even the Shakers did not have white cabinets. Think about old farmhouses on a farm !!
I do think most of these are pretty, particularly the soft white tones. I would worry about coordinating wall color if my cabinets were any strong tone. It seems better to keep a very neutral cabinet and paint the walls or use the color you like in the accessories. Also, these are "trends" and cabinet color is not easy to change up.
I'd go with a pretty, soft white like White Dove. Alternatively, you can go much darker (about 1.5 shades darker than Pale) but most people want a lighter color than that.
I color drenched the butler’s pantry I built with BM Oil Cloth. When I was painting it on it looked brown and it sorta faked me out. Then when everything is done it’s definitely a grayed sage color. Looks great with the white oak shelves and it never shows dust. 😂
You can do uppers and lowers in different colors. I like doing island in a different color and then wall cabinets in the same though. Personal preference!

This was great, so informative! I am struggling with kitchen cabinets that I want to paint. I have not picked my new counter yet, however my walls are collingwood and I just don’t know what might compliment it. I do not want white cabinets. My trim is Chantilly lace. Would you have any idea what might work for me? I hate green, so any green undertone should kill me. Ugh! Is it me or did all those colors look like another side of gray-the only ones remotely different were the beige. Everything else, I felt, was in the gray family. Not what I consider warm colors at all.
Yep. The blues were all shades of grey. The greens and beiges all look very greyed-off. The beiges were all sort of safe. Why are people afraid of colour?

Also, I’m looking for a muted green for my office. This room gets very little light and all the greens I’ve tried look dirty. You can warm up white cabinets by adding warm color in other areas (wood floors, wood accents and paint color).

My cabinets are SW Iron Ore (a deep charcoal grey) with white quartz backsplash and countertops. It feels neutral to me and I’ve never tired of it.

You can do uppers and lowers in different colors. I like doing island in a different color and then wall cabinets in the same though. Personal preference!
Timeless is the way to go. Why follow trends? Trends come and go.

This was great, so informative! I am struggling with kitchen cabinets that I want to paint. I have not picked my new counter yet, however my walls are collingwood and I just don’t know what might compliment it. I do not want white cabinets. My trim is Chantilly lace. Would you have any idea what might work for me? I hate green, so any green undertone should kill me. Saying that sometimes I see green in collingwood, I have lots of windows and my sun room is where i see the green due to all the green outside. Help! Thanks in advance
Collingwood is a gray with a violet undertone, so you need to stay in that family if you want to do a neutral cabinet.
Great ideas here. Thank you! How would you handle my situation: I am ordering cabinets but prefer to choose my own colors with more nuance from, say, Benjamin Moore. Does this increase the budget a lot? Do I pay for white or raw cabinets and then have a painter paint them?
Your best bet is to find a local cabinet maker. Their paint process will hold up much, much better than having someone paint them after the fact.

White is typically too stark for beige countertops.

@@Marie-lf8ut Off whites look good with off-white quartz. Many times off-whites are too stark for beige and instead you need to look to pale beiges/creams.
What about Sherwin Williams "Drift of Mist"? I can't tell its undertone at all...
Drift of Mist is very, very tricky. Has many undertones.
The decorators have to change everything after you spend all the money. Keep anything long enough and it will be back in style again.

Ugh! Is it me or did all those colors look like another side of gray-the only ones remotely different were the beige. Everything else, I felt, was in the gray family. Not what I consider warm colors at all.
Yep. The blues were all shades of grey. The greens and beiges all look very greyed-off. The beiges were all sort of safe. Why are people afraid of colour?
I’m not in the video editing business but I have a channel myself and want to offer a tip. Your channel is ripe for an intro and hook. You may want to look into it. Also, I’m looking for a muted green for my office. This room gets very little light and all the greens I’ve tried look dirty. I’m wanting a paint suggestion that gives that cozy academic look without echoing a crayon color

I hate white cabinets. They look sterile and cold. Give me color or yes I love see the wood grain that nature so artistically made.
