  • The first model Thompson produced was the 1921A and 1921AC. The AC had a compensator and the A did not. They were produced by Colt Firearms.

Our 8th grade class flew to Washington DC back in 1971. When we were at the FBI building an FBI agent shot a 1928A1 Thompson. That was the gun I wanted until I saw McQ in 1974, then I wanted a MAC. That’s about right for a transferable 1921AC 60k. I hear some people with 1921’s have a set of parts they use to shoot it and save the original parts.

I took the same tour at the FBI in the 70's. You can put 1928 parts, which are available, in a 1921 .

The Blish lock works on the principle of friction coefficient between different metals. Under pressure (recoil) there is greater friction between different metals. That's why the Blish lock is made from the brass alloy. When the pressure drops, the friction that binds the lock and bolt drops and the lock is free to drop out of the way and let the bolt move rearward. Named for a British naval officer that observed this phenomenon when firing large naval cannons. Was not effective with lower pressure calibers so it was eliminated on the M1 as a cost saving.

I had an Auto-Ord 1927 (pistol)...the only glitchy thing was the mag release, because I'm a lefty, when I pulled the trigger my trigger finger would move the mag release, dropping the mag. I had to relocate the knurled part so it was above my finger and thus did not conflict with anything.
