Trophy Trophy !! I am 71 and retired and this past March I retired from driving a school bus, I now have time to work with the metal working tools, roller, English wheel, tubing bender, tubing notcher and hammers, nothing fancy, most from Eastwood, been enjoying all your unique videos and even though I will never be as good as you, starting so late in life and all, it is so relaxing and challenging! Learned to TIG & MIG weld from lots of TH-cam videos as well! No welding or trade schools anywhere near me so watching helps, lots of trial & error but is that not how it all started? !!
Sorry it's taken me a few weeks to reply, but I'm so glad you are taking the time to develop your metalworking skills! Thanks also for entering the raffle.
Trophy trophy,I would love to win this just to be able to have Ron’s work on display in my workshop. Another brilliant and informative video, thanks Ron.
Glad you liked it! Of course, metal, or an engineering grade of plastic would be a 'lifetime' solution - but for a tool made for one use, wood can often be sufficient.
Attention to small details makes it so rewarding to watch your videos. Joining that perforated metal strip and having those half holes meet in the middle is seemingly a small thing, but really shouts the quality of your work. Diameter vs hole pattern will have an effect, but I’m totally buying the idea this was 100% intentional.
Yes, I worked out the dimensions so the hole pattern would remain constant at the weld. It would have looked 'awkward' at the joint if I had not done that.
Hi Ron! Watching this was a real joy, especially knowing that Paul also got the idea to use mesh on the 2nd layer he made! Fingers crossed for the next layers! Trophy Trophy Matthew
Thanks Ron, looking forward to this series, that's for sure. Bringing in different technics to metal shaping is a great idea with metal spinning being just one that many some people may not consider. As always, you always think out of the box & I'm sure Paul will undoubtedly do like wise. As usual, thanks for sharing! Cheers!! 👍
Always a threat, always educative with valuable tips and shortcuts! I love the recessed-head stamp method, it is so quick, clean yet cost effective! The lathe process is another pearl, especially how you pulled off the freeing of the stuck part - typically a job_ruin for the beginner!
Trophy Trophy...not sure if international viewers qualify...but non the less im loving the techniques used to make the first level of the trophy...the dimple die idea is great..this reminds me of an air cleaner set up as such...great work as always
howdy ron, learned about you though this collab with paul and you seem to be just as passionate and creative as paul as far as fabrication/engineering as well as motorcycles! should be a fun journey for youse guys and everyone tuning in. and because it's as much a work of art between two creative folks and not just a trophy, i feel privileged to 'play', so, TROPHY TROPHY! come on, folks, enter for your chance to win! ;o)
@@RonCovellsorry for being spammy with the entries. I've been watching Paul's and your videos as you've been publishing them but hadn't been intending to enter. And then today I realized that it's a better chance than winning the lotto! :)
I thought you would add a dimple on the bottom for the 1/4-20 rod fastener to be installed. So, I look forward to the future videos to see how that is accomplished.
I counterbored a hole in the bottom of that wooden spacer and the bottom plate, large enough for a nut, washer, and socket to fit into. You will see that on a later video.
Dimple die! Totally worth the price of admission!!! Bravo!
Thanks for showing the tip about the dimple die, I didn't realise making a countersunk recess was that easy, and thought it was only done with a press
Yes, making a dimple can be pretty easy!
Awesome start to the trophy Ron, you just showed me how to make a custom air cleaner lol.
No question that I was 'inspired' by an air cleaner!
Saw this and thought the same thing.
It always resonates with me that you put the effort into prior preparation which gives the excellent end result. 😊
I have learned over the years that time spent in proper preparation usually pays off handsomely!
Fantastic as always, and is giving me some ideas for an engine air filter.
I hope you make a spectacular one!
Learned somethings here today that I will take to my shop classes, thanks 😊
Wonderful!
Very good instructional video. Great step-by-step explanation of how to make a given item. I wish there were more materials like this.
Thank you very much!
Ron - Really like the very simple dimple die tip. Thank you!
It's a 'keeper'!
Some serious Awe in your works and the ease at which you go about it. Thanks for the chance and for sharing your craftsmanship.
Trophy Trophy

Fun stuff, Ron. Might have to give spin forming a go sometime!
Brandon - Wow- that would be cool if you did! Don't hesitate to let me know if I can help in any way.
I just watched Paul's video. Great minds as they say.
Thanks, Jere. Who would have thought both our layers would be made of perforated metal?
Trophy Trophy !!!!!! So calming watching you work. It's like Bob Ross but with metalworking.
Thanks for entering the raffle!
Ron. watching you channel is a treat and i read your comment over on blondihacks channel and herd the comment in your voice!

I love the wooden guide you put on the bead roller. Very clever.
Glad you liked it! Of course, metal, or an engineering grade of plastic would be a 'lifetime' solution - but for a tool made for one use, wood can often be sufficient.

I love the way this is going. I can't wait to see the next section and what you come up with.
Me too!
Great video Ron. That's some delicate welding :)
If you think that's hard, try welding 'the 'rack of dawn'!
Nice concept and a perfect match to Paul's second layer Trophy Trophy!
