Yes hello I am the guy who requested costs be listed in Dollar Menu Cheeseburgers. I greatly appreciate your efforts to recognize my culture. As thanks, I will share my secret to buying a super cheap Chaos Space Marine army! You can get started with just the regular Starter Set, a box of Chaos Legionaries, and a few extra bases as needed. The Legeionaries can be built as is or kitbashed into Chosen. You mostly want them for bits. The Infernus marines can have their guns upgraded with spare Legionaries bits to make them Havocs. The Terminators can be Chaos Terminators and the Librarian can be a Sorcerer. The Termigaunts can be painted half as Pink Horrors and half as Blue Horrors, while the swarms of Rippers can be split into pairs and painted as Brimstone Horrors. 2 of your Leapers can be used as Chaos Spawn. The last can be used as bits to add to flavor for converting. The winged Prime can be combined with your Terminator Captain to make a winged Daemon Prince. Lastly, the Psychophage is just a fleshy Venomcrawler. This gets you just under 1k points from boxes that are cheaper tham the new battleforces and are WAY more available to buy. Slap on a box of Cultists and your Enhancement of choice and you have a functional, afforsable army that will look quite unique. You can double down on the starter sets to get more cheap units. (Two Terminator Captains are the perfect size for Obliterators and 6 Leapers can make 3 units of Chaos Spawn) The main issue is making aure you're got the right base sizes. Double check before you start gluing!
Second Combat Patrol with the new one would probably be better than getting the Devilfish and Breachers separate. You can convert the Pathfinders into a strike team if you really want, and the Commander would be nice for the second Crisis team you eventually get. Also if you get the hammerhead box, you could always turn that second devilfish into a Sky Ray.
Its crazy how last edition and even at the start of 10th Tau was rather a middling priced army with it being somewhat elite. Now its one of the most expensive armies in the game. A competitive Tau list sets you back almost 1200 USD with a Kroot one going over 1500 USD. Also, if you took 3 Riptides over a Stormsurge, which is better overall, add a few hundred more dollars.
Tbh we've found there's been some HUGE points cuts this edition and bigger armies by extension. It's made for an even pricier hobby competitively which is brutal.
@the_kieran_show it's crazy to me that your Tau list is around the same dollar amount as hyper-competitive GT winning Ork Green Tide list. That was an actual hoard list with over 120 models, and it could technically be cheaper if you bought the older boyz kits over the new one. Tau is just so expensive right now.
I just started collect 40k and after TH-cam lore diving I decided go with the T’au. I knew I wanted a vehicle so 10th edition CP box was what I got and the LGS had a couple of 9th edition CP boxes left. Started figuring out more of the army building and went back to get the 9th edition CP box. For 300 usd I got nearly a 1k brand new army. Then bought 1 broadside because I LOVE the model. Lot of key units and couldn’t be happier. I need 2 more broadsides and a few crisis suits and I’ll be real close to 2k. So excited to fight for the greater good.
Considering their age, the Tau tanks look surprisingly fine. But the main attraction for me are the mechs. Would have been nice to fit one Riptide somewhere, but otherwise, you have a well rounded selection of them.
I like the list, but would change 1 thing...I'd drop the ridiculous bullet magnet that is he storm surge for 2 more Crisis suit units, and another fireblade for that second breacher team. Though, Ideally, I'd have a bull boat of 27 Crisis suits in the army...👹
Nice discussion, on the whole I agree, but there are a few areas I think the list could better and cheaper for people starting out: I think you underestimate the benefit of the 2nd combat patrol. The commander is great for a 2nd crisis suit and the pathfinders have great firepower and utility for their cheap cost plus the ability to observe twice. They can have up to 32 shots (with ion rifles, recon drone and 2 gun drones). They can also infiltrate with the recon drone and also scout. Because its still available for the moment I would also include the old combat patrol, I would convert the Ethereal into a 2nd cadre fireblade. 2 Crisis suits are perfect for the 2 commanders from the initial 2 combat patrols. Outside retaliation cadre going too heavy on crisis suits can be a trap as I think other units re better. 2 extra stealth suits are auto include for the observing buff. The stormsurge is an odd chaoice for someone starting off. It has issues with split firing because of the penalty to split firing when being guided. 2 Hammerheads and a Skyray (same points) would be better.
Really interesting points! I haven't played with Pathfinders in the new iteration, where they look better I still think the points are better served elsewhere. That many heavy weapons and shots are great but they're still quite squishy. You're absolutely right on the suits, it's the obvious choice when you first open the book but upon reflection it's not as good as it seems. The Stormsurge is a great time and it needed a fun model!
I wasn't going to start a vohtann or sisters of battle kill team, but when a shop closes and there is 40% off combat patrols.... yeah. I grabbed both. I think there are a lot of bits in the sisters box I can use for dnd as well.
I bought the old Tau combat patrol before the new one came out with a view to have both as a start. Have got the CSM battle force coming Tues (boo Royal Mail) so think I’ll focus on Chaos for a bit instead!
@@the_kieran_show I think I’m going to go with Night Lords and actually found one of your old videos where you were talking about them too and a rather large amount of flayed skin!
Knew tau would be pricey would be more so with riptides & broadsides in the list. I'll be interested to see the GSC & sisters prices whenever you get to them. I won't count admech as they are just ridiculous as of right now. Look forward to more content in general plus chaos prices in the future.
Great video! Why no Kroot tho? I'd also *love* to see you covering Iron Warriors, I've flirted with the idea of doing Iron Warriors *several* times, so seeing a video covering price will be fun. Although, can we get some "How much does this army cost?" Videos for AoS armies once we get Skaventide, or at least Battletomes?
Kroot are great and absolutely would have been included, but they are horrendous value wise. I think we'll absolutely do the same the AoS ranges once we 4.0 launches!
It's my bois!! Love that the T'au are getting some love. Great vid as always my guys. (The Hammerhead and Ghostkeel are excellent models Mr Kieran, Stop hating on the classics!)
isn't Commander Farsight locked to farsight enclave only, I thought I read that in the new codex, you can't run shadowsun and farsight together because of sept shenannigans.
Sadly Auspex’s video looked at the price rises and in the uk it looks like 6-7% increase on a lot of the price points. (Ie 32.50-35, or combat patrol to £100)
What about the cost of magnets?! I wonder how many armies would be really affordable if only we had both old and new combat patrols. Also, with value of T'au being so low it is crucial to buy used Crisis suits.
And as per crisis suits. I am also anti change. I almost like the change but they made it too restrictive imo. If they had just done weapons id be more okau with that. I get the Cyclic were a problem. But we could still have the wargear options. And they cut the range of the Plasma gun pretty hard while still calling it the long range option. Im mostly just salty but what can you do. They took a huge appeal of the suits away when all you can customize is which drone you want and how many of either weapon do you want.
Well you can always model and paint your mini's however you want, we just meant from a gaming perspective that it will help the flow of the Tau shooting phase
hey im a new player who;s looking into getting into warhammer 40k and i really like the look of the tau mechs, what is wrong with the new codex has things changed?
If you didn’t want to use double breachers/devil fish you could easily swap those out for some Broadsides 😊 we will do a more Kroot centric one of these down the line too!
@@the_kieran_show Have fun with the Kroot centric list I've looked into building out a 2k list and it gets very expensive very quick, best to add some supporting Tau stuff in like Ghostkeel's, crisis suits, pathfinders and stealth battle suits. Though spamming the maxium amount of krootox squads would be hilarious I don't have that kind of money.

Now do Admech costs how much just for the memes
🤖🤖🤖🤖
I just actually started my Ad Mech army. It's going to be a slow build...
Was uploaded like four months ago.
This is helpful for me to think through as some friends bought me the old tau combat patrol a few years back and I was looking to expand
Good to hear! The old CP is better than the new one, but if you pair them both together you’ve got a pretty nice looking army!
I'd probably change the Tau units into Orks, or maybe Blood Angels, but apart from that, Kierans list looks good!
How dare you sir.
@the_kieran_show what?! I said it was a good list! It's not my fault you picked the wrong faction! 😂
Second Combat Patrol with the new one would probably be better than getting the Devilfish and Breachers separate. sounds to me that smol Kieran needs a tau army on his own, so that he can play them against buff Kieran's Ultramarines.
It took some convincing to ally along side them, playing as them is a totally different ball game 😂
