Years ago I was turned onto this method of making boards that uses a product called Kel-Seal from Kelly Moore. It's basically a textured paint/primer for walls that creates a nice earth like texture without the weight of real sand. I made a 4' x 4' post-apocalyptic wasteland. The issue was the Kel-Seal took about two days to completely dry, so I had to leave the table set up. My girlfriend's cat walked across the board. I know because she left footprints in the Kel Seal. So I ended up with a post apocalyptic wasteland inhabited by 200' tall cats.

Cut the board into four pieces. Put little cupboard hinges on them so u can fold the board up and add a locking mechanism. That way, you can make the board small for storage. You would have to plan the fram out beforehand but an idea for your next video.
Excellent mate... artistry, temper and cats. Yup I have a very active black cat (Sith) who has used the Power of the Claws numerous times on scenery to make her mark. Banhammer and door added to gaming room. Cheers 😐😄👍👍
Excellent video and really amazing work with these two boards. Something like this is more or less my dream, probably going to use this as reference one day!
Just found the video, amazing, however, small suggestion for future bricks, use the guider the cutter game with on the other guide and rail and set it to 0*, this way you can use it to cut way more bricks every time.
That is amazing! Love the double side aspect, I am going to have to try something like this. As far as pet saboteurs: cat chewed on one of my Vampire Counts vampire lord weapon. A little rust around the bite mark “pits” and looked fine. My dogs have never bothered any of my stuff. Good puppies 😊
It might be nice to pick out a few of those individual bricks in various hues and values (rather than airbrushing blotches), perhaps in tones matching the various terrain pieces to be placed on top (seemed to use a lighter gray?), so the board doesn't seem like a separate surface but integrates a bit.
My favourite is still the old modular plastic boards with hills and what not, used them all the time in high-school because we could take them apart and store them aswell as they looked good for how fairly cheap they where at the time
Yeah they were cool, the good ol’ days! I get the storage convenience of the foldout ones but they’re just so damn flat haha! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏
Very cool idea. Given that you painted the wooden frame, you could have saw the one you saw wrong in the middle and then turned it even 180 degrees and glued it back together. No one would have noticed anything except if you point it out, then you would have avoided going and buying a new one.
Wow, Instant subscribe and thumbs up. I will be doing this 100%. Great video man keep it up. Ill be binging your whole channel while ignorning my in-laws over the holidays LOL!
As a man who works at a hardware store. Save yourself the trouble. Just buy the extra board for miss cuts. Worst case scenario you have a board for your next project. Or next time you go to the hardware store, you return your extra board. Nothing is more annoying than driving 15 plus minutes across town one way to go back to the hardware store for that last board. Same thing with standard screws or nails. Just buy the big box for cheaper and you'll eventually use them. It may even take years, but wow are they handy to have right there. It's not like any of these things go bad over time. Projects are meant to be fun just over buy by a little (most all contractors do this i.e. 20% waste/miss cuts) and either return or repurpose the left-over materials.
Awww, mate! After watching this video I subscribed myself! Some dinky lil' tricks. Thumbs up! Looking forward to more....now I'm off to plunder your back catalogue, peruse some playlists; nom, nom, nom etc.
Amazing video. It inspires me to start my first serious terrain building project. I want to build some kind of imperial church with the same brick technic 🙂. What machine do you use to cut the XPS foam boards? Is it a hot wire cutter or a regular band saw?
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes Haha my circle of friends doesn't include any woodworkers or foam cutterers, and my own space is already filled to overflowing (not helped by the new 3d printer) - but keep on making fun videos. I've just subbed. Cheers mate! :)
@dicedrinksanddadjokes oh yeah, it looks amazing. I'm going to make a modular board based on yours. Six 2x2 foot squares, double sided so they can mix and match.
Does the PVA used in the fist step ever fully dry under those conditions? When I used PVA like that, I sometimes found the layer to be wet after months when I opened it back up.
I use quick drying PVA for that very reason. Worth the extra cost. But yeah obviously humidity conditions and use of watered down paints etc will have an effect on drying time. Trial and error my friend 😅
Using a deep frame for "shadow boxes" from the arts/crafts store might be cheaper and faster than making your own frame, and you can add whatever poster you want for the other side...
Great vid that made me laugh at times this reminds me of another board you made which involved some wood if i can remember . You have an endless amount of patience weldone the board looks amazing.
I had built a building for Fallout terrain that was box shaped. One of the cats in the house decided, "if I fits, I sits," and broke the door and one of the walls on it. On the positive side, that meant the sections looked a bit more bodged together, and the claw marks looked like something big and angry scratched up a section of the material used to build it. Overall, it was a net positive for the piece's look.
The line between genius and madness... is visible in this video

Cut the board into four pieces. Put little cupboard hinges on them so u can fold the board up and add a locking mechanism. That way, you can make the board small for storage. You would have to plan the fram out beforehand but an idea for your next video.
Ooh I like that idea! Might have to try that for some of my terrain. Thanks for the tip!
Your cat is a visionary, for real added the perfect cherry on top. 🤣🤣
Don’t give that little punk any credit! He is a pure agent of chaos 🤣
Excellent mate... artistry, temper and cats. Yup I have a very active black cat (Sith) who has used the Power of the Claws numerous times on scenery to make her mark. Banhammer and door added to gaming room. Cheers 😐😄👍👍
🤣🤣 they’re such cute and loveable little arseholes aren’t they!
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes 😄😁🤣
The good old cat weathering 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈⬛
Absolutely epic board !!! 😊😊😊
Purrfect! Thanks for watching 🙏
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes you are welcome meow 😸
You could’ve put the foam bricks and stones into a water tub and simply skimmed up the floating foam bricks.
Will certainly give this a go one day 😊
WoW! simply incredible. And love your wife's comments....and your clever concealment LOL
Haha thanks so much! I’ll be sure to let her know 😉
Hilarious and brilliant !
So pleased to discover your channel here :D
So am I! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Great video! Always a pleasure to see you've uploaded
Glad you enjoy it! 🙏
The cat added a good part of the scenario with that scratch ahahah
The purrfect addition 😉
The hoover mishaps actually made my day, thank you 😂
Haha glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Great video. Bit of humour at the end , fantastic.
Thanks so much 😁
Bro your videos are getting so insanely good!!!!
Thanks man! Probably reflects the hours put in 😬😅🤣
I did not expect the Seal edit 😂 The bricks were well worth the effort!
Haha thanks! 🙏
Excellent video and really amazing work with these two boards. Something like this is more or less my dream, probably going to use this as reference one day!
Thanks so much for saying. Yeah do it! And good luck 😊
A real talent for humor and modeling ! Awesome.
Thank you for your kind words 😊🙏
Just found the video, amazing, however, small suggestion for future bricks, use the guider the cutter game with on the other guide and rail and set it to 0*, this way you can use it to cut way more bricks every time.
That is amazing! Love the double side aspect, I am going to have to try something like this. As far as pet saboteurs: cat chewed on one of my Vampire Counts vampire lord weapon. A little rust around the bite mark “pits” and looked fine. My dogs have never bothered any of my stuff. Good puppies 😊
Thanks! Hahaha nice one man, cats can be such jerks 🤣
That's very true, thanks for the tip! Thanks for watching 🙏
Wow, Instant subscribe and thumbs up. I will be doing this 100%. Great video man keep it up. Ill be binging your whole channel while ignorning my in-laws over the holidays LOL!
subscribed straight away, this is the hobby content i want!
Thank you so much for subscribing! It means a lot to know that my content resonates with you. I can't wait to share more! 🙏
Absolutely amazing work! Watching you sand next to your minis scares me.
Yeah that was silly. I was cleaning dust off everything for hours afterwards 😬
Awww, mate! After watching this video I subscribed myself! Some dinky lil' tricks. Thumbs up! Looking forward to more....now I'm off to plunder your back catalogue, peruse some playlists; nom, nom, nom etc.
Cool thanks so much! Hope you like the content! 😁
Cute tiny puppy beast of chaos gnawed some pieces of terrain weeks ago. Great board!
Little monsters! Thanks so much 🙏
great video! loved how the terrain turned out
Thanks! Glad you liked it 😊
I would never have the patience to do this myself but I very much enjoyed the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing video. It inspires me to start my first serious terrain building project. I want to build some kind of imperial church with the same brick technic 🙂. What machine do you use to cut the XPS foam boards? Is it a hot wire cutter or a regular band saw?
Cooooool!!! That sounds like an awesome project! I used a proxxon hot wire cutter to cut all the bricks.
This was fantastic. Been planning to make a board like this for spearhead - one side for each layout!
Perfect! Thanks so much for watching and commenting 😊
Fun video, but I don't have space for a table saw, nor have I dont woodworking since... I didn't get to do woodworking in High School, so never!
Never too late to start my man! Either that or get a friend to do it for you! 😁
Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes Haha my circle of friends doesn't include any woodworkers or foam cutterers, and my own space is already filled to overflowing (not helped by the new 3d printer) - but keep on making fun videos. I've just subbed. Cheers mate! :)
@Azazel-zv4fy haha fair enough! Thanks man 🙏
Fantastic job. I loved the "final touch" by the cat.
Haha thanks man! 😊
i was wondering about the lines between the foam on the second one. my brain was screaming "you forgot to grout those lines!" XD
Haha yeah that was a bit silly of me. Worked out in the end though 😊
@dicedrinksanddadjokes oh yeah, it looks amazing. I'm going to make a modular board based on yours. Six 2x2 foot squares, double sided so they can mix and match.
@@last2nkow yeah a modular version is a great idea!
@@dicedrinksanddadjokes I hope so :)
Good thinking! I’ll have to check that out 👍
Man, absolutely incredible work!
Thanks so much! 🙏
Great vid that made me laugh at times this reminds me of another board you made which involved some wood if i can remember . You have an endless amount of patience weldone the board looks amazing.
Haha yeah another mad idea testing my patience and resolve 😅🤣
Thanks so much Darren 🙏
I had built a building for Fallout terrain that was box shaped. One of the cats in the house decided, "if I fits, I sits," and broke the door and one of the walls on it. On the positive side, that meant the sections looked a bit more bodged together, and the claw marks looked like something big and angry scratched up a section of the material used to build it. Overall, it was a net positive for the piece's look.
Hahaha cats, gotta love em! Would have looked like marks from a deathclaw maybe haha!
Thanks for the watch and the comment 😊
Adam this is awesome! Hopefully catch you at another tournament soon.
I hope so too! Will you be going to finals this year?
I have been wanting to do this for ages!! So glad to see it it done so well! 🎉❤
Yay! Thank you! 🙏
