I have a NOS tula transition from 2nd to 3rd gen. It has all the features of the 3rd gen but still has a flat bottom plate instead of the goal post plate.
Hello from Mother Russia) Here we have 7.62 bakelite red magazines in excellent condition for about $10 if you buy online from private sellers. And price can be lower depending on condition. This is because army went to 5.45 and this type of mags is actually retired from the army. But in military depots there are still a lot of them. By the way, brand new Saiga in 5.45 or 7.62 costs about $500 here. That's why i'm realy shocked about $150+ for AK mag.
@@NgJackal1990 ARs themselves are not as widespread in Russia as civilian AKs, mainly because of their price - like you can get 3 AKs by the prise of the cheapest domestic or chinese AR available. Therefore we have not a lot of surplus AR mags, like STANAGs , which could be cheaper than new ones. Fab Defence AR mags cost about $30. Magpul Pmag's price starts at $40. We also heve domestic mags manufacturer named PUFGUN - the best combination of price & quality in my opinion. Their AR mags cost from $13 to $23. I prefer to use their mags on my .223 Saiga MK rifle
Pretty cool. I just got what must be a transition mags from gen2 to gen3… it’s a short top non reinforced feed lips with a smooth base plate like your gen2. The base plates on your gen1 and gen2 are different.
So I got a bakelite 74 mag and the left and right sides are completely different colors, you can clearly see the change in colors when you look at the "spine" of the mag.It looks like they just took two different production sides and pressed them together. Also the ink stamps are clear. I'm wondering if you have ever seen a mag like this and if you have are they rare?
I just picked up about six bakelite mags from Carolina shooters supply they have a shit load as of today's date. I am waiting on 3 more. Quick question the mags are oily and have some cosmo in the springs on the inside. I was thinking about dipping them in mineral spirits for a few hours. I did that on some Chinese mags that were caked in cosmo and that worked well. I was wondering if dipping the bakelite nags in mineral spirits will damage the mag. Any comments from the peanut gallery. ?
Bruh.... yeah as stated that's not a 5.45 mag. Doesn't even look like a 5.45 mag. Look at that curve! Oh so nice! Too bad they're some of the rarest and fetch 300 to 400+ on GB right now as of May 2022. Probably why you assumed it was 5.45. Because you dont see them near as often.
Just purchased two Izhmash 7.62 bakelites from my go-to guy in my state who refinishes them. He found them on CRAIGSLIST of all places...lucky fucker. Anyway, they are out there, you just need to look in private sales. 👍
@Rosscoeginncoe Lake Havasu & Orange County I don't mind at all, I like promoting his good work and helping grow his follower numbers. He also sells refinished wood grips for the AK pattern. @kalashbakes on Instagram. You can also follow @kalashnikov_store_official for direct, more consistent supply. He is Russian living in Russia, so his English is not perfect and shipping times will be longer than anything in the US due to customs checks and (from what he's said) the terrible Russian Postal system. However, he has basically constant supply of 5.45 and 7.62 mags, from Tula, Izhmash, and some occasional rare Molot 40rd 7.62 and 45rd 5.45 mags, two of which are shipping to me currently.
@Rosscoeginncoe Lake Havasu & Orange County from what I have seen on the IG world of AK owners, particularly the Russian guy I mentioned, the supply is still there, we just have to be on top of it because they sell very quickly after being posted. That one Russian guy alone has hundreds, if not into the thousands, of bakelites that he has sold on Instagram. I think if you are serious about collecting them, making a profile would be a wise route to take. I have purchased seven already, much more luck there than any of the AK pages.
there are nearly half a million of these in the states and more are coming in the states than ever. they are not that rare. there will be a softer market for these in the future. how do I know? I work with customs and distributors
Fonzy Brookestone No because they would be incredibly expensive to make in the US because we dont have the know how or the proper equipment to make them and getting that and doing them right would be incredibly expensive.
I only have one bakelite, It has metal reinforcements, a triangle on the bottom side, the floor plate was different than all of yours, more like a standard com block style floorplate with ridges (i guess that is what you would call them), with the number 69 directly opposite of the triangle. what gen/kind of mag do I have? the last gen acrylic? I bought it about 5-6 months ago from either DKfirearms dot com when they had gotten a batch in, same time primary arms had some available. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. ~J
The Pak made fakelite magazines are available for $10 a piece, both for 7.62 and 5.45, here in Pakistan. These might be good for collection, but not a kind of a 'go-to mag'. Springs are the main issue. Sometimes they won't take in more than 25 cartridges and most of the time feeding issues. Just bought a brand new Russian Izhmash bakelite mag for about US $70. Sorry can't ship it to the US 😁
This video was made 4 years ago and you were seeing Russian bakes for under $100 🤔. No way man. I was buying these years before that and you couldn't find them for under 1 bill. E German mags might have fetched that price back then 🤷♂️
