I’m an American who discovered the Roses when a Scottish friend played me the first record in 2002. I became obsessed. I’m enjoying watching these videos. It’s bringing back memories of my early Stone Roses journey.
Always wanted John, Reni and Mani to do an album of just them jamming- once those three lock in on a groove, there’s no better feeling and that’s testament to their talent and abilities x
I was at the Warrington Parr Hall gig. You can see me in the documentary behind the woman getting interviewed at 29:07. Back when I had a full head of hair 😂 it was a one off incredible experience being at that gig. So lucky I got in.
I was 16 in London in 1989. For a year it felt like they were going to be bigger than the Beatles...felt like they were the New Beatles.... Every Song felt like a work of art. They really had something very special. I saw them in Ally Pally, in late 1989, i still remember that so well.
The intro to this in black and white slo-mo with Ian Brown just being iconic leaves me with goose bumps every time I watch this. Those first few bars of I Wanna Be Adored❤
Daniel you're bang on with the comment about Reni's backing vocals. Just beautiful harmonies. Mersey Paradise and Going Down are great examples. He fronted his own band The Rub during a period of the hiatus playing guitar and singing. Apparently he plays as well as he drums.
What a resurrection it was! You have to understand the importance of Ian Brown singing in his Manchester accent. How important it was to everything the roses did, it kept it out of London and gave people who lived north of London something to call their own.
I really enjoyed that. It’s so frustrating that they fell apart again due to a technical issue with their equipment. Noel Gallagher has a line in The Masterplan “true perfection has to be imperfect, I know that it sounds foolish but it’s true” The Stone Roses were true perfection!
spike island was a very very blurred day, all i can remember is that it took us bloody ages to get off the carpark, don't remember much else (a very messy day)
Thanks for doing these. There are lots of great documentaries that BBC4 and others have put out about UK music and its history and cultural significance. Factory Records Documentary or if you fancy trying out club music, Idris Elba's How Clubbing Changed the World are both great but you guys seem to be great at picking them anyhow😀
I live over an hour drive from Warrington i had know chance. P.s spencer don't worry liam has only sold out his arena gigs. He will release his stadium tours soon you will get tickets to them. I met an American and a Canadian at knebworth 22. Ian went back out coz they would have stood there waiting for an encore.
Shane Meadows, the Director, absolute brilliant guys. You gotta check out his films. Usually does 'powerful' movies. Try 'Dead Man's Shoes' and 'This is England'. You won't be disappointed.
Couple of music requests, Elbow one day like this, if you haven't done it already. Also more Cast - Fine Time, Flying, Alright. Bluetones Slight Return for classic Britpop

Still can’t get over that people take oasis or the Gallaghers seriously. They were treated as a joke back then. Surely discovering stone roses should’ve highlighted the error of your ways.
They're not even the best band from Manchester 😂 Mate you do realise musical preferences are like arseholes right? Everyone has one. However you'd be hard pushed to cite a bigger band in history for impact than the Beatles. Your boys from the stone roses already agree.
Have you reacted to The Stone Roses - Mersey Paradise that's a banger, the only good thing to come out of manchester is the music, as for them shite manc clubs no lol
I doubt it ian brown sounds loads better to a small crowd or no crowd like top of the pops type shows. On the records he sung quietly. I agree once he plays a big show he sounds like a bloke pissed up singing through a traffic cone.😂
@mana3735 you mean someone started a rumour that ian was autotuned on reddit. Have you heard redemption song just him and a guitar his lyrics sound great.

So many great songs ❤
1989 and then the early 90s with Nirvana what a time for music

Bless ya, should have been around in the 80s 🤣😂 we used to see them in such small venue's, second coming tour was medium size venues as well.
@@glenndouglas8822 I wish I was 20 years younger! I feel like I lost out on the golden age of music 😂
You guys need to watch the film spike island, absolutely unreal film, a must watch! 🍋🍋

Feel lucky that I grew up near Manchester in the ‘madchester’ era. Special times indeed.
Was at the Wembley gig, best gig of my life. The band, the singing along and the flares going off awesome.
Went to Manchester on June 29th. Was the best atmosphere all over Manchester. Utter bliss!!

No, they were not.
I hate when people make this comment just for the sake of saying something.

They were definitely not the first band to do this lol
Morrissey sang in his accent as did Ian Mculloch and Ian Curtis
@@beatlesboy95Exactly! The Worzels were fantastic !!
@@beatlesboy95Morrissey sang in HIS own weird accent, McCulloch's a Scouser, Curtis was depressing and dead.
What you talking about Ian Curtis put an American accent on.@@beatlesboy95

Best Fing band to come out of Manchester.
Had tickets for Heaton Park but moved to USA & missed it. I had to fly from LA to NYC to see them at MSG. 👌🏼
Just to let you guys know, if you don't already, Ian Brown & John Squire are releasing a tune. How knows 🤷♂️ might lead to a Super Group
Their early tunes like So Young and Tell Me are very under rated, and i love Elephant Stone
There is an amazing video of their full gig at Maddison Square Garden from 2017..called Fan Edit.
I went to Heaton Park and it was brilliant

Get to Manchester gigs lads. Universal capital of music. Love to see LG and ETS in my home city

Good documentary. Check out 'Blood On The Turntable; The Stone Roses' on YT, which takes you through a brief history of the band and stories etc.
That's Liam Gallagher & John squire... Doh!
You need to do the blood on the turntable documentary.
The Roses seemed to be cursed with shite sound engineers! Ian shouting that the BBC were amatures was a highlight!!
When I saw um, they do an encore.
I went to Spike Island, great day out.
Ive got to see a spike island movie reaction
I was there at Heaton Park 😁

Live up the road from Warrington big connection to U S Air base there. families
Hi Guys, someday made a review about a Blur Documentary from 2009: No Distance Left to Run, is amazing, i think you gonna like it!
Cheers from Brazil!
What about The Smiths ??????
Need a full Manchester doc but it would be about 12 hours long.
Hi, could you please listen to to nizlopi JCB. It's a great underated song about a father and son.
🥇 Simply the best band in history.
Behave lol. They had a unique sound through Squire and some good songs but best ever, that's very much up for debate
