A perfect example of the trippy Madchester sound that emerged in Manchester UK. The beat originally came from a 1960s song by Donovan ("Barabajagal") and was instantly associated with the rave culture of the 80s and 90s. Imagine dancing to this in a huge crowd in a dark field miles from anywhere while tripped out. Bliss. Sadly this was the short version, but still a great song. Try their "Waterfall".
I always love when those underground sub cultures get into the mainstream, some obscure riff ends up in the charts . Same thing with garage being implemented in to the mainstream through grime
His wife at the time, the Mexican bird, knew the director, that's the only reason he was stirring that cup in the cafe. He's also in this is England series as old bill.

Just listen to their debut album it's a masterpiece from start to finish the album is The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses. Great review my friend and you git a new subscriber
New Year's Eve 1989, I'm at a party in New Brighton, near Liverpool. Big old house and in one bedroom, some guy, playing this on 12", from about 10pm to the dawn. I think everyone at the party danced in that room at some point.
A quote I always enjoyed was “Reni plays the drums like Jimi Hendrix plays guitar”. The Stone Roses are absolutely fucking mega. It’s absolutely a rock you want to kick over and get into.
Great reaction brother! I’m sure you don’t want to react to this again, but you should DEFINITELY check out the full version in your own time. It has a 5 minute instrumental on the end which is VERY REWARDING 👍
One of the greatest debut albums of all time (which actually didn’t feature this song). So much to check out - I Wanna Be Adored, She Bangs the Drums, Waterfall (three opening tracks) and then Made of Stone and I am the Resurrection. Coolness personified
The songs not on the debut album. It is on reissues. The song is a standalone single. Also deffo check out the full version of fools gold. Made of stone, waterfall - the album version because the single version with the video doesnt have the solo in, in fact, watch the waterfall live tv performance on the show the other side of midnight. Another 2 essential tracks are i am the resurrection and she bangs the drums.
Yeah after hearing Fools Gold for the first time I rushed out to buy the album (on cassette!) And was like "WTF where's the song?" Still love that album though.
The Marquis De Sade was a torture freak and he's the origin of the word 'Sadist' The lyrics were talking about how painful and torturous the boots were to walk in
They were soundtrack to my youth in the early 90s. They were the epitome of the early 90s hippy free rave culture. I am the Resurrection is another classic by them.
You’ve got one of the best guitarists of his generation, one of the best drummers of all time, a super healthy bass player and a singer who floats behind them… The Stone Roses were amazing, albeit short lived
Has to be listened to full whack on a decent sound system, bass turned up to the max! (And if you're just kickin back at home, then all your windows need to be fully open, cos everyone needs to appreciate this bad-ass track!) ✌️😎
Their single Sally Cinnamon is a banger. The two B sides to it are incredible as well. Their first album is phenomenal every song in it is a banger. They had many stand alone singles and B sides during this time that are on par with the album as well. Their second album whilst not as good as the first is still a banger in its own right. Just about everything these guys did is amazing.
It wasn't on the debut album, my good man. It was the immediate follow-up. What this band were capable of, we'll never know. This tune only hinted at was possible
went to glastonbury in 95 and stone roses were due on saturday night, couldnt wait to see them, but they must have split up on the friday or something so we got bloody Pulp who replaced them instead-what a letdown
It is a good song, and a good band, but worth knowing that that song actually they "borrowed" the groove from a rap record th-cam.com/video/wck6YaZytmM/w-d-xo.htmlm28s , which is why it sounds so funky and and breakbeat-y So they made a demo over the original groove, then recorded it with their own instruments when they recorded it seriously. that's why its got that sound They definitely put something specal over it withthat reverb or whatever they did, gives it a unique feel.

The 12 Inch version, playing in the nightclubs during an Indie Disco night, was hypnotic and intoxicating.

One of the greatest debut albums of all time. Wore this out back in the day.
The lead singer Ian Brown even had a cameo in Harry Potter, The Prisoner of Azkaban.
His wife at the time, the Mexican bird, knew the director, that's the only reason he was stirring that cup in the cafe. He's also in this is England series as old bill.

That was actually soothing to me, nice.

Great Tune!!!
RUN DMC actually sampled this on "What's it all about".
The bassline originally comes from Young MC-Know How. Mani admitted as much back in the day.

Lovely to see someone experiencing this for the first time. Wish I'd heard it on a decent stereo when I was 17 :-)
A straight banger!🖖🏼
Madchester sound from Manchester. Take these guys over Oasis any day, any time.
Have you heard new songn by Liam Gallagher and John Squire?
@@rm1387yep, album total shite. If they are the elder statesmen for English rock n roll then the world is fecked.
While the US was getting into grunge we in the UK were dancing to this, those were the days an E and dance all friggin night

The Stone Roses, is one of the best bands of all time. Self titled album is worth a full listen, you will not be disappointed.
I’m a missives smiths fan but the Roses debut album is the best album ever released bar none!!
Have a look for Young MC's hit Know How. It's where the bassline from this got it's inspiration.

Er, no. Reni's drums, Mani's bass and Ian's vocals were equally essential.

This is the horrible radio version. The real version is top five best pieces of music of all time.
