a really common question is how long does it take for symptoms to go away. it’s different for everyone. for me, it was probably around 2ish weeks before the nausea started to subside. comment below how long it took for you to feel normal. This comment sections has so many stories that people relate to and I really hope it’s helping people feel less alone.

It really does feel like you’re dying… you can’t eat, sleep, you’re just shaking… the pain is immense, and then it fades for a bit and you feel like you’re fine and out of nowhere it punches you right in the gut again

    • @Dopamine1245

Yep, the pain for me was worse than anything I have ever felt, when I first got symptoms I thought maybe it was food poisoning, then It would happen again, and again, the final time I almost died from it, I was so dehydrated and I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t keep water down, I was going pale, getting cramps elsewhere and could barely move, if I was living alone, it might have gotten to a point where I would have died in my own bed. I spent time I the ER hooked on a drip IV, and medications, and when I got out I had to slowly get back into eating. I was only able to eat watermelon and soups at the time because my stomach was just not prepared for eating. This condition was absolute hell.

But, I've read many articles from patients and different doctors that THC disables your gallbladder and pancreas from digesting food, so when you eat, you get way sicker after you eat because your body can't digest food properly. The only cure is to quit smoking. It takes 30 days to go back to normal, the same time frame it takes THC to leave your system.

I didn’t believe it either. I had smoked 20+ years without any issues, but then I almost died. Even then I didn’t think it was marijuana. I had quit for 2 years and within 2 months after starting back I almost died again. I had one bout of puking 24/7 for 12 days. I now have ptsd but I’ll never smoke again. The puking is nothing like any puking you’ve ever felt. It tasted like pure vodka or straight alcohol every time I puked. Thank you so much for bringing this to light. The decline your body goes through and how fast is unlike anything else. I had thrown up so much the doctors literally tried a burning cream to get my mind off of puking and it did nothing but burn like hot magma. I’ll never smoke marijuana again.

I find that the the further we legalize weed- we will start to discover not only more benefits but unfortunately more side effects as well. I do not have CHS, however I do have terrible abdominal pain and intestinal issues that arose after I stopped smoking. I was also heavily dependent on weed for my depression. I understand the struggle of not having it there- it’s been one of the craziest battles I’ve fought with myself on. I appreciate your courage in sharing your story and hope that further research will explore more of how and why CHS occurs.

Shad Ruth it’s not 100% effective, about 90% tho. I rarely need showers anymore. You have to be careful not to let your stomach run out of gas and if it does you have to prime the pump with A&W and the stomach will go away and allow you eat normal instead of getting worse and having nausea. If you have to drink the root beer in the shower and by the time you pee once or twice you’ll be out the shower feeing great 👍🏻 you will burp and feel the gut rot subsided. It’s a strange feeling. Like when you have bad heartburn and the antacid just kicks in. Takes the burning away. And it has a pleasant sweet root beer aftertaste LoL 😂

Shad Ruth CHS can only be Prevented if you don’t smoke weed. But the effects of CHS can be combatted with healthier foods and hot showers. But if I didn’t have a HOT shower I would still be up shit creek. About 1-2 times a week I still have to use the shower but I haven’t been to the hospital in over 5 years . I have it under control

I literally thought I was going to die the first time this happened to me. The suffering can get unreal, especially if your alone, and no one's there to help you. (Bring you water, help regulate the temperatur, etc)
Last time things got bad was 4 years ago. I told myself that next time this shit happens, Im quitting for good.
Then two days ago, it was go-time again. Like holy ****. I was so sick I even had some illusions.
I'm still a young man, my worries is getting this sick when I'm older... I don't think a old body can cope with this. Atleast not as good as a young body can.
So here I am... 11 years down the road from my first joint. And guess what?
Im quitting this shit. I love weed, but this illness. Naaah, it aint worth the high!

I slept on my bathroom floor waking up every hour of the night drenched in sweat and this was the same night they gave me a dose of zofran! I needed two for it to work at all and they didn’t give me enough to last thru my sickness

I've been a smoker for 2 straight years. 1st year was just occasionally with friends. I started buying my own 1/8ths. Then straight to ounces. Then 2 ounces a month. Then I switched to dabs, 8 grams per 3 weeks to a month. I was smoking myself to sickness dude. I love marijuana and all its benefits, I love that its helped my family. I love that it helped me for a short time! But I am an addict, I have to admit that. I have to CONFESS that I am not a responsible smoker, drinker - anything.
I am not responsible enough with my own emotions to enjoy something recreational like that. Because it started as medicinal, but that ended VERY quick like.
I was nauseous all the time, everyone thought I was pregnant for months and months because I was so nauseous all the time. It's my 4th day sober and it's been a fuck shit storm of emotions. And it's hard as fuckkkkk. But with my own mind and my own personality, I cannot continue to smoke and pretend that it's not damaging my mental health and my lifestyle. People get so judgemental over this because "weed is the end all be all, replacement for ALL pharamceuticals." It can be for some people. But to assume everyone will get benefits from smoking weed is stupid.
My bipolar 2 and dabs DO NOT MIX. I remember reading an article about the dangers of bipolar disorder and smoking because bipolar can be such an intense mental illness - you CANNOT smoke randomly throughout the day just whenever to self medicate - it will make everything worse (for me). My bipolar I've discovered needs exact routines to keep my mood stable. You cant STAY high ALLLLL the time even if you try. There will always be a come down, and then you'll get high again. That constant up and down tripped my bipolar out, because it was trying to do its OWN up and down shit.
My husband had to sit me down and have an intervention. He told me that I'm not the same, he said I was avoidant, said I was neglectful of him AND my cats (deadass), i was spending every cent on dabs. Literally the other day i had 2 cents in my bank account because i had bought dabs the day before, and i still had a week til payday.
Addiction doesnt give a FUCK what you want or what your priorities are, what your true needs are. Addiction says i want it and I want it now, and if I dont get it I'm gonna cause a mothafuckin scene.
Thank you for this video, sheds so much light without putting marijuana users or marijuana itself down. 💜 you are inspiring my continuing sobriety 💜

Grateful for your story and your transparency. We found out our daughter has CHS as well. She has just fully stopped cannabis she's in the middle of a 5-day episode right now. It definitely affected her worse at the beginning of her cycles. She's used cannabis to cope during covid to relieve her anxiety and had been smoking pretty heavily the last two months. She had an episode over Thanksgiving a few weeks ago and was good for a bit and then started back in last Wednesday. She's always had a sensitive system So she was already prone to stomach issues. She's so grateful to actually know now what is going on with her.

I’m almost at 24 hours rn the abdominal pain is almost gone I’ve been dealing with REALLY bad sweating shaking and anxiety. The shaking is getting better. None of the anti nausea medications were working for me I was given reglan it gave me the most relief out of all the others they tried. I'm 50 now and have been a daily toker for 32 years (minus 4 in which I quit). Weird thing is...back in the 90's, when all I could get was bud with stems and seeds, I never experienced this syndrome. About 2015 this started on me. Luckily, I've rode them out except once I went to the ER. They didn't come up with anything.
Only seemed to begin when I started cartridges. Not saying that's the cause.
Flower and other kinds of products today have just gotten quite strong.
This syndrome with me is a crapshoot. I've quit before and when I look back, yah I wasn't sick for those years. So I've slowed to just a few flower tokes a day but I'm still taking chances.
Yes, abstinence is unfortunately the only answer. You'll find that your intestines will return to normal after a while, bowel movements, etc. and that daily pit in your stomach feeling will go away.
You can eat again and the insomnia will lessen daily. Knowing I've stopped before makes this time quitting really much easier. Good luck all.

After seeing an urgent care, an appointment with my primary care doc, and an ER visit they finally nailed it. I was convinced that I had a terminal illness leading up to last week. I’ve been in and out of ER. Your story completely matched mine. I smoked heavily everyday. To cure my anxiety, to cure my depression, to cure my stomach and abdominal pain that started about two years ago before discovering I had CHS today after I had an endoscope I received a lot of answers but was sad because I knew what I had to do which is quit. All day today I’ve been emotional with the drastic changes etc. My Gi doctor also noted muscle spasm but stated it’s mainly coming from all the usage of cannabis. Each time I tried to express my story to my friends who are smokers they would NOT believe me.
I made the mistake today and smoked one time. To get rid of the nausea and to gain some appetite. After seeing this video I want to make a plan to completely stop smoking. The thought of it sets fear into me because I am sooo dependent on it for everything.
Any recommendations during the withdrawals of more anxiety sweating episodes etc? to get through everything without weed?

I am 45 years old been smoking since I was 19 this vomiting started for me about 4 years ago, i discovered the research on this subject 5 months ago and decided to stop and see if it helped me cure myself, which it seems to. I see a lot of different opinions from people of different age groups etc on this and other videos/articles/discussions of this subject and it does make me wonder if this isn't occurring because of modern botany techniques related to growing pot, some say they grow their own and still have this illness. My question is where do they acquire their seed and has the entire seed stock become polluted (as we have heard Monsanto has done through genetically modifying the corn seed stock)?? Prior to the last ten years and the legalization and mass marketing of weed I have never once heard of these symptoms in anyone and that covers users of 2 years to long term users of 20+ years. In short I believe this is a real problem but not a naturally occurring problem. I think the powers that be are messing with the botany folks, not good!

I should mention I quit smoking about a year ago and after two days aLL my nausea went away. I still smoke now but Hardly smoke flower. I just stick with oil and it seems to help. No nausea in the mornings no vomiting. I have to stop tho around 6pm at night and I’m fine. If I smoke later I seem to have a little nausea in the morning. I used to smoke an eighth a day at least now if I get an eighth it’ll last me 3weeks. Just take one or two hits off a small bowl and I’m fine. Takes the edge off. I’m working up to completely quitting but it was just so hard to sleep without it. I was sleeping only a couple hours a night when I quit completely I started going insane from sleep deprivation but I had no nausea so I still felt way better. Nothing worse than vomiting bile every morning ugh good luck with everything. Thanks for sharing. Think there needs to be a ton more research on this

Ive been suffering for 3-4 months so far. I have terrible anxiety on top of CHS, so on top of the nausea sweating and stabbing pains I couldn’t breathe. I would go from being normal to needing to gulp like a fish/ take deep huge breaths but I still felt like it wasn’t enough air. That stresses my body so I black out/ start shaking bad. I started staying up all night damn near like insomnia because in the back of my mind I knew it’s always worse when you wake up. So shi* if you don’t fall asleep you don’t have to wake up and be super sick. I’m not able to eat all day until the night time when I finally give in to smoking and I can finally eat one huuuge meal. I’ve lost 20 pounds in a couple weeks and I’m already 120 pounds. I had to quit my new job because I literally couldn’t show up every day and function without deep breathing through the pain and almost passing out. The weed feels like the only thing that soothes you, your stomach, your anything. I didn’t really get high anymore to get high I was smoking to maintain. Sparking a blunt in the morning made me want to throw up immediately but as soon as the high sets in you think you feel better.

I know the thought of giving up that vice is hella crazy, but I promise you that when you give it up, the pain and sickness will go away too! I’ve smoked TOUGH for years and always thought I needed my weed too. It’s gonna be a little difficult giving it up, but once you do you’ll see that it’s completely worth it. Good luck mamas!

So glad to find your video! thank you so much for clarifying, thought I was crazy for so long 😭 First got sick in 2020 during the pandemic and thought that's what it was but it always starts off feeling like the worst hangover ever and then it just doesn't stop.! Was sick for 2 months that first time but I routinely jump into new cities and whenever I do I never smoke weed and those were always the times that I would never get sick so I started putting two and two together and then I was sick all last December in 2021 for 45 days and I went and got blood test and they couldn't find nothing, and then it started happening this year and then I got really sick this last month working a new job and my manager was like dang what's wrong with you, so I cut out everything sequentially until the last thing left was the weed and so I did some experiments and went through another few weeks of torment of the worst absolute nausea you could possibly have, it's total torture and nothing I ever want to experience again, is the closest thing to death and gets very psychedelic if you push it too far and just think that the weed is going to help you. waking up in the morning and feeling like absolute death is the worst thing in the world, and to feel like you're crazy and that you're either pregnant or going to die loll it's the worst! But thank you so much for this video, I feel so much better just knowing that all these people in the comments went through it too and I'm sure we'll hear about it more as we gets more and more legal. Thank you so much !!

I had smoked for 22 Years straight and only find out recently what CHS was. I Haven't smoked any Weed for 3 Days now and I'm feeling Better than I've ever felt in the last 22 Years. So for the past few years I’d get these moments of headaches and nausea and would throw up bad I hated it seems like I could sleep it away but no it had to run it’s course. Sometimes I would even leave work it would be so bad. It wasn’t an everyday thing but enough to make me question what’s wrong with me.
Like I said I’d have moments where I feel normal enough to not really go to a hospital plus at the time no Heathcare.
Anyways this week I’ve been soo nauseous not much headache but throwing up. One time I immediately felt sick after smoking a backwood blunt and thought the wrap was maybe moldy.
Today I googled ‘sick from backwood’ and that brought be here...
I’m the person who’s been smoking almost daily all day since I was 12 I’m 33 now.
I’m not sure if I have this syndrome but I will stop smoking soon cause it’s not worth dealing with this.

Cayenne Pepper with water helps this problem as well. But, need to stop smoking completely because THC disables your pancreas and gallbladder from properly digesting food for almost 30 days. The higher THC buildup you have in you, the longer the recovery. You can eat normally after 30 days. If you eat heavy during the first week of recovery, you will get very sick because your gallbladder and pancreas need time to rid itself of THC. It'll take 30 days until you can eat heavy again, only stick to fluids and light stuff the first 3 weeks. I went thru all this. I love you all.

I’m currently going through it right now I quit a couple days ago since then the nausea and pain kind of stopped but comes back when I wake up at 2 in the morning every single time I feel bad for having to wake my mom up so she can distract me from it . It’s terrifying honestly i get a lot of anxiety too but the only time I know I’m gonna throw up is when the anxiety does come it’s a horrible thing to go through I remember I went to the doctors a month ago (I’ve been experiencing this for more then 2 months) and I lost about 10 to 15 pounds and I’ve been in and out of the ER hecka times they did not say I had this because they never wanted to do anything to help me besides give me some unhelpful medication that I threw back up so I did researching and I literally had all these symptoms I gave all my 🍃 supplies to my mom and told her not to give it to me ever no matter how much I ask for it or beg also it’s strange how people that have this wake up around 2 then stay up till 5 due to the constant nausea that caused me to stop sleeping because I didn’t wanna feel sick

I just started to research this syndrome yesterday and unfortunately I think this is gonna be my problem FOR about 6 YEARS !! too, but im not 100% sure. My story is same, but kinda different. I im 27 and im smoking weed for like 11 years. I smoke more than 8 years everyday and allways arround 1 - 1,5 G per day, sometimes more. I dont remember a day without weed anymore... About 6years ago i woke up with terrible stomach pain and nausea (throw-up feeling shooting trgough stomach to my throat every couple of seconds) and i spend couple of days like you said- showers, heating pad (i burned my back bcs of it, still got a 2inch scar ), EMPTY-vomiting, drinking and vomiting that water instantly. Didnt eat. After like 3-4 days it was gone so I tought it was not serious. About a half year after, it started again and it was for like 6days. Went to the hospital and everything negative. Got some med but it i didnt felt difference. So after that few days i didnt feel sick anymore so I just lived on and smoked. After another half a year it went big. I was vomiting for a week and trough that, I only ate A ONE HALF OF APPLE. I had simmilar feeling like you- weird vison, talking slowly and I couldnt walk properrly. I had to lean on somebody to walk. So my gf dragged me to the bus and from bus to the hospital (shes unfortunately my ex but she was amazing with that) There were some tests, and like a surprise, everything negative. I dont know what he did there, but he pushed on my stomach kinda hard and suddenly my stomach made little bit of stomach sound and I suprisingly went a bit better. Even doc didnt know what he did so I think its just coincidence. I went home, next day I was good so i lived same for another half a year and.... AGAIN... this time it was better and I went trough it without hospital. But I knew I have to start to treating it. So I went in couple of hospitals, everything was allways negative and they only said i have a mud in gallbladder (forreshadow of gallstones) but its not serious. I got some medications and this changed my life. I got some natural drug, wich should help to improove the microflora in my stomach (i know its weird but thats what doc said). I dont know what happened but instead of heavy CHS syndrome every half of year, I have a less intense pains EVERY MORNING, but only for like half a hour. The hot shower allways keeped the pain down until it disappeared. If I dont use the shower, i will start empty-vomiting till I got some hot water on my stomach. So I live like that for something like 4 years. IMPORTANT THING - 3y ago, I switched from showers to hairdryier and it was good until i saw by back in the mirror 3 days ago. Lower half of my back is darker and its obvious i burned my back...So now I cannot camp, I have to be close to the hot water every morning, all my vacations started as a disaster because we allways drove trough night, cannot drink alcohol, because I started to be sick after two shots (at least beer is harmless in small amounts), food became to be just a fuel thing - I dont enjoy food as much as i did, I just chasing away a hunger feeling... So a LOT of things is now a problem for me. Yesterday i found that and i just said to myself ITS FUKIN ENOUGH and I didnt smoke for the whole day. I know its not much too but like I said, I dont remember a day without weed. I hope i will get to the state when i can smoke at least one joint per day . I will try last as long as i can. WE ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS !! :)

I was told i have chs the 2nd time i went in and i kept telling myself i would stop and i just couldn’t. i relied on weed to feel normal and i realize that the only way to fix this is to stop smoking. i do wonder tho if somewhere down the line i can smoke again without getting this after going a while without smoking? i’m so glad i have someone to relate to and i’m not alone in this because everyone around me has never been through this or never even heard about it. i’m starting my sober journey today. it’s hard but i’m pushing through.

So glad to feel hundred percent again, but really hope that somehow there will be a cure for CHS sometime in the future. I only smoked carts for 4 weeks but heavily. Cant even talk some mornings just suck up the pain. I promise I will never touch it again. Can someone tell me how long it took them to feel better
