I think it’d be more fair to say that Leela just made history by being the first to beat Stockfish with black in two years than Stockfish making history for losing it.
@@liljackypaperI think it has less to do with the time frame and more with the fact that Stockfish has probably played millions of games as white in that time and not lost
Leela has a stronger (and expensive to run) neural network compared to Stockfish, that's why it operates at a much lower depth. Stockfish relies on seeing 20 or 30 moves ahead, much more in the endgame sacrificing a small amount of positional understanding. Leela on the other hand compensates for not seeing that far ahead by understanding the separate positions better. And sometimes, this can make Leela see actually further from the position it gets to than Stockfish can see by just physically looking further ahead with lower cost (or "attention") to the separate positions. And that's when Stockfish won't realize, but Leela will. Only if the depth of the tactic is beyond what Stockfish is able to look at.
@@siprus That was before. Now Stockfish has both. Ever since it got the NNUE it also has a deep understanding of the game. That combined with a superb brute force calculation is what makes it the best.

Something that Levy always fails to communicate properly is when the forced opening book is finished and when the engines actually start to choose moves. In this game, it was move 9 for white, where stockfish plays 9. a4. This means that the everything before this was not a decision of the engines, so things like 2. Nf3 and 7. Bxc7 was not actually chosen by Leela. In the mirror position, Leela played 9. Qg3.
@@briandawkins7108 No, he wants him to talk less, because there's little point in covering moves that the AIs don't actually play. He could start coverage straight from move 8/9 in this case.
