@@bmdoes_stuff6861I wouldn't say perfectly - recently it buried one of its bishops behind its own pawns against Leela in TCEC and was essentially down a piece the entire game. Ended up losing the game as a result. Occasionally getting a piece trapped / buried / inactive is a known issue with alpha beta engines like stockfish. However I must add that it is still the strongest engine there is, being some 30 elo points ahead of Leela.
@@BruceWayne-jh4wh well it could just be an outplay by Leela as even these engines at best give 99.7% accuracy. Although these engines can easily beat any human down a bishop
So strange only a couple days ago I was searching for Magnus playing Stockfish to see how top players handle the engine and here is Hikaru making a video on it 😅
I like these 10 minute time control vs. formidable but not impossible engine games where the logic and explanations are given along the way. Learn a lot this way. Granted Hikaru's thought process sees miles beyond what most of us are capable of. The fact he gives so much advanced content and still is one of the best in the world in all variants and time formats shows that experience is hugely important. So we have to apply thus knowledge not merely enjoy it to rise to the top. Proving that chess streaming isn't damaging to competitiveness.
Read in a forum that Engines, like Stock-8 did here, love to take the queen off the board early, as the complexity massively drops, and it is more likely to choose the path to a win or draw. Based on its massive training, the Engine sees queens on the board as a strategic weakness and tries to trade or sack sooner - so if you can , although women are complex for humans too, probably good to trust your luck and keep the queen alive. ; ) Curious if this is considered true or not from those who know better. All the best from Japan.
From my experience it's pretty much everybody vs. Stockfish on lichess. I play ten games in a row 1/0 against 1800s and get blown off the board every time and they have 48 seconds left with zero blunders.
The last time I pitted engines from LC and C against each other at highest level. LC won. At that time I estimated LC level 7 to be around 2750 and level 8 around 500 points higher.
It's amazing how fast Hikaru processes this information from going from in game "I think the light square bishop is better" to reviewing his game saying "bishop b3 c2 and trade off the light square bishop when my king is on this side of the board"
"and that's why we play this game, you learn something every time. So next time I play that alapin defense and I have this open structure in the center of the board after the queens have been traded I will remember to try for this idea of trading the light square bishops if I have my King on this side of the board." And that's why I'll never be a GM.
16:22 at move 17 why did Hikaru think he was in so much trouble that he had to sacrifice material? What wrong with just Bxc6 exchanging the Bishop for the Knight?
Probably had something to do with the fact that black’s light square bishop was a monster piece and was stopping white from getting his queenside rook out.
Welsey So needs to do a "draw Stockfish ten times in a row" series. (I know Anish is the guy who always draws in the memes, but Wesley is the one who does it in real life.)
I love when you play very strong engines so I can see how your beautiful mind plays against a beautiful robot mind in chess. It so fascinating, enlightening, and I learn so much.
The difference is Stockfish doesn´t talk at all while Hikaru spend most of his time on commenting the game. I´m pretty sure if he´d be quiet he´ll win both games.
It's very valuable to have this POV as GM experience of play. This would be great to see you draw a round against Stockfish. But if you don't, maybe that'll be fun to watch you and Stockfish play that Alex Botez and Magnus match where he had 0.5 min and she had 5 min.
I can not extrapolate how close humanity will get to ever beating A.I.s again. Probably never since they know all the right moves. CoD with human friends. Your chances are better.
Stockfish in Lichess is so much weaker than the actual Stockfish... :) Just keep in mind. I tried to play against this Stockfish 8 in Lichess with my Stockfish 16 installed on my PC and the differences is soo big. My stockfish just crushed it so hard, its like playing 3700 vs 2700...
Just out of curiosity, how many points can a top GM get from Stockfish, say, in 10 games? If it is non-zero and something like 2-3 points, then an interesting format would be to organize a tournament with top GMs and Stockfish. It could be something like “whoever gets the most from Stockfish wins”.
