His "careless decision" began long before going through passport control. This was not a prescription drug or an OTC drug.
He should be charged with capital dumbassery.
Adults should be able to choose for themselves, as long as they are not hurting anyone else. The only thing drug war laws do is create a dangerous black marke and the violence & crime that naturally follows.
Adults WILL do what they want one way or another. By trying to force them not to, you just put them in more dangerous situations as they attempt to procure it on said black market.
Has anyone mentioned the FACT that more people have died in Thailand from uncovered manholes in the last year, than overdosing on THC in all of human history?

How many times would he have had to hand his passport to someone else to be checked before going through security in the UK, then boarding the plane and eventually going through Thai immigration? Also his belongings would have been scanned in the UK airport before boarding the plane.

The passport would have been 'handled' at departure from the previous country...so unlikely to be an ex..
