I agree with enforcing laws so lawlessness doesn’t become the norm. Look at the USA with smash and grab, catch and release, and businesses closing because laws were not enforced. Put a tax on pot with the money going to education and transportation. Don’t go backwards.

As a Thai who has been following American politics, i agree, but we also have the Puea Thai party which is quite a lib party in power right now and they're seemed to be in cahoot with the Junta these days too. So, idk if the future will be better. I'm not a rightist either. I'm an authoritarian centrist. So, as an authoritarian, i don't like the fact that Thailand's private sector seemed to be taking ESG money. They dared abandoning Thailand's value and accepting money from companies that will attempt to fundamentally change our culture? F ing Chao Sua pos! I heard quite a bit of talks about ESG investment in the market and it irks me. We all know what ESG will leads to, America has already shown us that (9h3ttoism). The government seemed to either be ignoring this disturbing trend, or pretend to ignoring it, but actively encourages it behind the scene, i'm leaning on the latter. Hopefully, the Junta won't stand for it. I think they're stupid old men who doesn't know what's going on in the world, but i hope they learn what ESG will do to our country and have a go with another round of coup, but this time put an end to the Puea Thai completely.

Thanks for the wonderful news for all tourists and expats who respect the locals and obey the laws in Thailand, Ben.
We've been waiting for this game change for years. Basically, in any country or any social scene, BAD ONES STAND OUT. The lawless, irresponsible, and disrespectful foreigners may impact all of us negatively, because some Thais have started to generalize and resent foreigners as a whole no matter how good the majority of them are, and who genuinely love Thailand and respect Thais.
We're sure that this will bring good outcomes for both the local and international communities.

If you don’t break the laws you should have nothing to worry about. What Thailand needs to worry about is opening up to Middle Eastern countries, pushing more and more for Chinese and Indian citizens. Thailand long ago decided that it was quantity over quality and now they want to put the toothpaste back in the tube and it won’t work unless they get serious about quality over quantity.

No matter which country a person is in, things are basically the same when it comes to screwing around with the police department. Police departments, universally, do not react well when a member of the force is attacked. The response is almost always to make the offender regret their actions, if the offender can be identified. Beyond that, the relationship between police and others who are in the same category as the offenders becomes much less friendly, cooperative, or accommodating and much more rigid, controlling, and inflexible. Everyone else pays for the misbehavior of a few people.

You know I totally understand this. I lived in France, Montmartre, for over two years. During the tourist season we had invading hordes of tourists, mostly from China who just took over neighborhoods. You couldn't comfortably go to work, a cafe or a store because of the crowds that would start around 7 am. It was frustrating to everyone. I remember trying to leave my house on morning at 7:30 am to go to work. I opened the front door and their were more than a hundred tourists there standing with an idiotic tour guide shouting at the top of their lungs. Even when I tried to say "pardon" they wouldn't get out of the way. I finally shouted at them to move and said the neighborhood wasn't an amusement park, that real people with real jobs live there. We wanted to close the street off. It was ridiculous.

i think this is not about mass tourism.. but more about tourists acting like psycopaths. So far never heard of a chinese tourists assaulting police officers or old ladys in supermarkets.. The problem with Chinese tourists here is more that tour groups are led to exclusively overpriced businesses owned by the chinese tour operators.

Mass tourism is a double-edged sword that cuts both ways. Covid taught many locals how nice it could be to have your city/country back. Ask any local (except AirBnB owning locals) what they think of mass tourism. Barcelona, Venice, Amsterdam, Bali....and now Thailand? People have had enough.

Yea they struggled big time. Hence the phuket sandbox. Many of these countries that "struggle" with tourism, need it the most too. Imagine losing 10-25% of gdp in a western country. Some entire cities/sectors getting wiped out. Can't eat your cake and have it too.

Thailand's laid-back image has led to a misconception that you can do anything there, but this isn't true. To fix this, laws need consistent enforcement. This story just happened on May 11th at the airport....... I came here in AUG 4th 2023 got a Visa on arrival stamp ( good for 30 days ) I liked it so I rented a condo for 1 year.... September got my extension stamp good till October..... Did my Visa run good till November..... then got my extension good till December...... then did my 2nd visa run good till January last run as only 2 in 1 year.... ok then got my extension in February.... March was a new year so I got 2 new visa runs for 2024 and used 1 in at the end of March then an extension till April then a new visa run #2 for 2024 good till May and another extension till May19th ..... I was told at immigration on this last extension I would have to fly out of the country then come back..... ( so no visa run ) OK ALL GOOD RIGHT......? So I left the country on May 7th to go see a friend and to a wedding went to china.... stayed in china and flew back to Thailand on May 11th................ and all HELL BROKE LOSE..... I was told I was not allowed to do that as I stayed in Thailand for to long without a " REAL VISA " and I was not allowed to come back into the country on a Visa on arrival stamp..... I had to have a visa.... I was held for 4 hours at the airport till the ( Bit@h ) got off and another person came in and they looked and said...... Yes you can come back no problem showed my ( SO-CALLED ) flight out on June 9th She SMILED at me gave me my stamp and winked at me....... walking out the holding area she said we all know the game and the other lady does not like foreigners so she gives them a hard time all the time till someone starts to raise a stink..... then they let them in..... LOOK WE KNOW NOT TO YELL AT THEM....... But at some point people will stop playing Thailand's STUPID game and we will all just find a new place that does not use us as their ATM's....... So even when we follow the law we get messed with........ I followed the law to the letter and was almost kicked out of Thailand for no other reason then a government work does not like us here....... So who is wrong here...... and yes I'm getting a VISA but things come up and it took some time because of hospital bill I had here...... By my count you can stay with a visa on arrival and all extension's and visa runs about 6-7 months I got lucky as the new year restarted my visa runs so I got 4 by law in less the 365 days........ A LOOPHOLE........???? Yes / No / Maybe but it is their rules SO WHO IS RIGHT..... oh the fun part will be when I try to get a new extension in June if my VISA is not done...... DO I EVEN TRY
